View Full Version : How does one make units that come with other units

Please forgive me if this has been asked before, but I looked and was unable to find it if it was.

Some units in the game are able to spawn additional units when they appear in combat. For example, the Moloch pretender comes with imps when he enters combat, even though said imps are not under his command as part of his squads.

How do you give this ability to a unit?

Also, more generally, is there any way to view the commands for each unit that tell you how that unit was made, so that if, in the future I find a unit with some ability that I like and would like to use, I can know how to apply it?

Thank you!

To your more general question, the answer is no, because the vanilla game units weren't made with mod commands, they're hard coded.

There is no mod command to give that ability to a unit.

The only thing you can do is #copystats a unit which has the ability. You can then alter, say, imps, so that they are an entirely different unit and voila you have a unit that summons whatever you want when it enters combat. Unfortunately you've also changed what imps are, which causes problems whenever a spell/unit/event creates imps, since they'll create whatever you changed them into instead.

I hope this gets fixed soon. It's listed in the manual as a mod command.

Which do you mean? I see:
#domsummon: Summon in Dominion
#summon: Summon automatically
#makemonster1: Summon as monthly action

no "Summon each combat"

You might be right about that one.

First off, thanks to everybody for responding (not just Maraxus to whom I am replying)!

Where do you see these modding commands in the manual? I can't find them. Is there some updated version of the modding manual that I need to get? Is there an updated version of the game that I need to get that uses these commands?

Thank you!

Yes, found them all under "Advanced Monster Modding" in the modding-manual.

domsummon is from Version 3.06. Do you have the latest patch (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/Illwinter/Dom3/6.htm)?
I think the up-to-date manual is in there.

Ah, thank you very much! I thought I did download that patch, but apparently not, or at least, I never completed the update.
