Do we need to re-download the map file? I had downloaded it several days ago.

DrPraetorious
October 6th, 2007, 10:42 AM
I changed the .map file (which you do not need to play and probably should not have, given that the modified version tells you where everyone's capital is) but did not touch the .rgb file.

It's probably a good idea to download the rgb file from the link in the thread, even though you can download it from exactly the same place (Velusion's server) automagically when the game starts, because the internal map downloader sometimes chokes under heavy load.

Actually we were supposed to start last Thursday night. We are going starting today though - even I have to put shin on mighty AI.

I can help you look for a temp sub though FAJ http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Seconded. If you don't already have the Evermore.tga in your maps folder you want to get it before the game starts. Check the first post in the thread for the map link.

well, if we start today, the first turn will forcehost tommorow, right? then the second will force host on monday? I will only miss one turn, no big deal. It will be like forced thrift, to save for a Dai Oni http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. I wont be attacking with Yomi's starting army anyways.

The game has started!

IP: 67.66.187.69

I'll be updating the front page shortly. We are on a 24 hour quickhost timer!

Good luck!

Velusion
October 6th, 2007, 07:11 PM
You are correct! Neither did I.

I took the game down for now. Let me check the map file (not that I know what might be wrong).

We might have to wait for Dr. P to take a look see.

Think I figured out the problem... looks like a simple syntax error (pop instead of population). Game should be back up in little bit.

DrPraetorious
October 6th, 2007, 07:18 PM
Let me check what happened.

Okay, my bad.

#pop should be #population http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif.

Terribly sorry!

I'm resending the map file to Velusion. I now know where Marverni starts http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif, for which I also apologize.

Grrr... Let em look at it again

Velusion
October 6th, 2007, 08:05 PM
Ok.. resolved that problem.

Third time is the charm eh?

BTW if you had already downloaded your first turn before this final fix - make sure and go into your savedgames/evermore folder and delete everything out before you connect again. Otherwise you won't download the new improved rehosted turn.

Ok, I'm confused. I DL'd the map a couple days ago, and just tried to DL my first turn a couple minutes ago. I got a message, something like "This may take a few minutes." I left the PC for a couple of minutes and had a failure message with the option to retry when I got back. Do I need to re DL the map?

Can't connect to the server.

Velusion
October 6th, 2007, 10:38 PM
Ubercat - What was the message?

If it was a "bad packet" message that means you probably want to download the map seperately and put it in your maps folder.

The first day is always hard on connections as the map download is bandwidth intensive.

I *highly* recommend everyone download the map from the external link rather than through the game:

DOOM!

For next time:
1) The algorithm to pick which sites are "in the middle" was borked. Not a huge problem, but next megagame I'll do a much better job - balancing start locations which are remote from other players is an issue even on most wrap-around maps.

2) I had meant to fill all four slots in every capital with sites so that searching spells would skip the capitals. Next time, I'll do so.

Ubercat
October 7th, 2007, 03:53 PM
Ok, this is ridiculous. I haven't been able to get in at all today, either. I DL'd that big game mod linked to in the first post probably a week ago. I dumped it's contents into my mod folder, as is. I DL'd the map probably about a week ago. Could either of those be the problem?

I keep getting the same message as last night, which I quoted several posts ago.

Check the game folder (evermore) if you have files there remove them. Also try removing map and mods and getting new ones.

archaeolept
October 7th, 2007, 04:18 PM
1. wipe out your evermore folder, then try
2. wipe out the mod and map and the evermore folder. redownload. try
3. try later
4. have velusion restart the server again

Ubercat
October 7th, 2007, 04:54 PM
I don't have an Evermore folder. Was I supposed to make one? It's been my experience that network games create it themselves.

Ubercat
October 7th, 2007, 05:05 PM
I re DL'd the mod and the map. The mods two folders and one file were dumped into the mod file as is, as I pointed out earlier. I have no Evermore folder as of yet and it still isn't working.

I'm fast running out of time. Anyone have any more ideas? Should I make up an empty Evermore folder? WTH, I'll try it anyway. Can't hurt, right?

edit: making an Evermore folder up didn't work.

Just a long shot, but please check those things:
1. There's no firewall/etc blocking dominions.
2. You're using version 3.08.
3. Can you connect to other games on velusion's server?

atul
October 7th, 2007, 05:24 PM
Overzealous firewall blocking outgoing stuff at will? Some strange network arrangement at your end? Have you been able to connect to other games before?

The server works all right for me... You should get the dialog asking for your game, or message that you don't have the right mods if there's some problem with them (like I had first).

edit: just a sec short of Szumo. Never in time...

lol. that's, ummm, kinda relevant http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

how are you trying to connect, ubercat? have you created your pretender under gametools? then go to network, put in ip/domain name, then the port... If that's what you're doing already, I would say its some sort of firewall on your end.

Velusion
October 7th, 2007, 09:02 PM
You can also try to connect to 67.66.187.69 Port 11123. Its another game I host... just to see if you can connect to my server at all.

It really does sound like you have a firewall setup. Try turning off any software firewalls you might have installed (whether it be windows firewall or a third party firewall). If you don't have any of those then it's probably a hardware firewall setup on your router... you'd need to open it up to get access.

The turn isn't set to host until late tonight BTW.

I tried Port 11123 and connection was instantaneous. It showed me six factions to choose from. My pretender obviously had no problems uploading and neither did the other port number. I seriously doubt it's a firewall issue since I CAN get through on anything other than 10022

I'll try some more but I'm not running my machine with a turned off firewall. If I can't get through soon then I'll just ask Velusion to set me to AI.

Verify that you are connecting to port 10020.

Then verify it again.

Then get the verification notarized and mail the verification in triplicate via priority mail to "Port 10020, PO box 10020 City of: Hundredtwenty, TX, zip: 10020".

On the game status page, what is the difference between "missed a turn" and "turn pending"? "Turn completed" is obvious. Is "missed a turn" functionally equivalent to "turn pending". It merely serves to point out that the player missed the last turn, but is perfectly capable of taking the current turn?

When the player takes the current turn, does his "missed a turn" update to "turn completed?"

Velusion
October 11th, 2007, 10:16 PM
Whenever I manually mess with the game turn lenghts (as I did for the patches) the status page screws up. It will be back to normal after thenext host though.

Normally "missed a turn" simply means the status page thinks the player staled the last turn. It is replaced with a "turn completed" once he does his current turn.

Assuming your have the following:

Version 3.10 installed (you should see "version 3.10" in the lower left hand corner of the dom3 screen when you start it).

The evermore map download (you should have the file evermore.tga in your maps folder).

You have the mod installed (you should see "Mega-Age v2" listed in the mod preferences).

If you have those three things done then you do the following from the main screen:
1) Click on "Network"
2) Click on "Connect to a Dominions Server"
3) Enter 67.66.187.69 and click "Ok"
4) Enter 9945 and click "OK"

You are now connected.

It doesn't matter that you deleted your folder - it will re-download whatever it needs.

Well, the unthinkable has happened. The superpower MA R'lyeh has just about been trashed by... MA Atlantis. Wow.

That was a masterful attack the last few turns, btw, Baalz. You only lost one fairly useless Ancient Kraken (after you take all the indies with it, it really just lays around and eats a lot), and took like 4 provinces as well as sacking my capitol for a turn.

Anyway, R'lyeh may be out of it in a few turns (I can hear all the cheers in the background already), or, I may pull off a masterful counter-attack of my own. We shall see.

Banish is aoe 4 and 5AN damage, am i correct that the aoe increases by one per additional priest level, but how high would the damage increase?

DrPraetorious
October 26th, 2007, 08:52 AM
Banish does 3 + 2 /level, area 2 + 2 / level.

Thus, archtheurgs spamming banish with four commuion slaves do:
holy 5 -> avg 11 pts each, at +2 penetration.

Against an MR 13 unit like a typical rakshasa, 38% under the template get hit each turn. Alternatively, they can smite a single demon for 25 pts.

Against an astral-bless vestal, you only hit 11% of the vestals under the template - and each shadow vestal *still* gets to negate the first hit. That's a lot better than nothing but it's not going to save you.

Now, if you're smart and only use the blackfaces instead of the demons, Pythium is in a lot of trouble. But even those guys you can't recruit 10+/turn like I can with shadow vestals. I still think he would've been screwed.

Xietor

Utilitarian philosophy: we should believe that which it is useful to believe, and disregard that which is not useful to believe.

LA Mictlan is huge, powerful and *extremely* agressive. I can admit it, I'm a bit jealous.

Therefore, it is useful for us all to believe that he is some kind of unholy crossbreed of snake and weasel, hellbent on ravishing our women (have I been watching too much anime? It is useless to believe such a thing.)

Since it is useful to believe this of him, we should agree that it is true.

While I did play one turn for Lanka while Hadrian was away, and am thus slightly favorably inclined in favor of the monkey-demons in this conflict, I do take serious objection to calling centaurs, magnificent creatures as they are, horses. There are so many things wrong with this thread.

First off, I have NAPs with all my neighbors except Coobe, and my neighbors are already in their own wars, so there is not going to be some sort of general assault on Mictlan.

Second off, Dr. P, strictly speaking it is not very utilitarian of you to get into a long range pissing contest with a nature + blood nation. You're the only one expressing animosity towards our great nation, so it seems logical that you are the one we should retaliate against with Rain of Toads and Horde from Hell. I would also mention that, due to my utterly horrible scales, my capital is already an overheated, slothful, unlucky, death-ridden and draining hell-hole, the very Phoenix AZ of my empire. Ill-omens and Melancholy and the like really won't make it any worse. There are far better places you can hit, places that don't have already have 60 free-spawn slave-warriors sitting on them.

Finally, Coobe, I know you are upset about losing the pretender, but really, these malicious libels are going too far. Think of this game as a growth opportunity, a chance to learn the important lesson that the pretender goes behind the archers, not in front of them. Can't we all just get along? Failing that, can't we all go back to hating on Lanka?

Not sure. One thing you might do before you submit a turn is check the status page - it should show that it is waiting on your turn. Then submit your turn and refresh the page - it should show you submitted.

The webpage just checks for your file to be there - if it sees your turn file it will mark you down as "Turn Complete" between the game and the site you should be able to be confident your turn is submitted.

The peaceful forest dwellers of LA Pangea have won a 5th decisive battle against *yet another* horde of poorly organized monkey invader demons.

Yet, we're simply being worn to a nub by the endless freaking endless stream of demon monkies. If some real help isn't given in the next turn or so we'll just send our forces else-where, burn down our fortresses, and call it a day. It's easy to see EA Lanka's army graph dipping down again, and again, and again. It's only getting bigger because they're summoning lots and lots of chaff undead. If the other nations would kindly do some scouting instead of relying on graphs, they'd realize what a straw man EA Lanka is and set them on fire. Incidentally Lanka contacted us recently asking for peace, and when we offered them terms simply turned them down without a counter offer. Do you want a nation that doesn't understand the basics of diplomacy, and controls three capitols, as your neighbor?

We will happily trade gems for certain items. For a list of what we need, please contact us.

What a bad example of mindless propaganda, There where no 5 decisive victories for pangaea, the last one was maybe the first in which the damage inflicted on lanka was bigger than the damage on pangaea, but we are not weak, and should someone become interested in backstabbing us just to follow the call of a walking death then please do so.

And yes, we offered Pangaea peace to stop the bloody mess that the war against him is. But he looked on our offer of a cease fire as like we where begging for peace, so we laughed at him and went on to slowly crush him.

And btw, i still do not have pythiums capitol even if this is now the 3rd time someone indicates it it is still belonging to ermor. (let this example show how delusional pangaea has become)

If you look at the province count, you can see that even if Pangaea has some minor tactical victories, the overall strategc victory is what counts, and that one is going to me. the only thing Pangaea can do is use his WHOLE army to stop my invading force but now the second time in a row, i conquered his capital. So if someone is interested in take some province, why not just engage Pangaea and get some for free.

And there are far bigger threats.

LA Mictlan is about to overwhelm the whole world if he isn't stopped.

I am engaging him now, with what ought to be sufficient force, but I'm very far away from his capital. If I win, all I do is draw forces away so that others can attack him.

Of course, I do that even if I lose - so everyone should attack him now, before his blood economy makes him unstoppable.

Oh, and just to get this thread-bashing away from Jazzepi's immediate crusade, EA Oceania hereby initializes the expiration period of the NAP between Oceania and LA Mictlan. Not that either could hurt the other anyway. *shrug*

As usual, MA Ermor is blaming the victim. All I wanted to do was grow at my usual snail's pace of one province per turn, when Ermor showed up and menaced me with an enormous army of the undead. The army is giant, you all should really see it. Now it looks like I'm not even going to get a province this turn, or the turn after. So, I wouldn't quite describe Mictlan as unstoppable, as we are now stopped. Complete halt. Perhaps even a slight reverse.

The empire of Atlantis is looking for new trade partners. Any who can forge death and air and seek forgings or raw gems in any other paths (or gold) may apply. Other than those dirty bird men - I mean honestly, who craps where they sleep? Hey, MA Ermor, Lanka? Which one of you wants free provinces?

Come right in and take some from LA Ulm! I know we have NAPs, but don't let them stop you! I'm going to go AI soon enough anyway.

In all seriousness... I've regretted taking this subbing job from day one. It was kinda funny waiting for some idiot to realize that I can't do jack sh*t against attacks, because the player who made this nation basically took EVERYTHING which would cripple LA Ulm (and quit over this from the looks of it, it wasn't hard to tell from the first glance on the nation - if I had botched my nation THIS BADLY I would've quit too, but I was subbing so I figured what the hell). No Sanguine Heritage thanks to bad choices on the Pretender (lol national mages can't cast it lol), 3 Drain for maximum research loss with already not too good mages (lol LA Ulm doesn't have mages that can research in drain lol)... I think the original player left at least a few hundred Pretender points unused...

What else can you ask for?

EDIT:

Omg, he didn't leave them unused. He just used them badly. Whee.

I indicated I thought we're both going to die (as opposed to winning the entire game) and I still think so. That has nothing to do with the fight being "fair" or not. I also indicated that you are being stupid for making it easier for others by weakening yourself. And I knew you are subbing, too bad that has nothing to do with anything. There's a difference between good and bad situations you can sub in - I just happen to always land on the bad ones. This, however, was the WORST of the crop by far. At least earlier I have had some chance to fix what had gone wrong, but this time... There's absolutely nothing I could've done. I tried to get researching outside my dominion, but other people's dominions didn't spread inside my borders fast enough to do that.

As for me getting "pissy" over you attacking me... You can think that if that makes you feel better. I just want to get out of this game, and I sure as hell don't want to help you in the process. I'm proving the point of my message to you here. If you want war, that's what you're going to have - just don't expect me to go quietly and/or without strengthening your to-be-neighbors (and weakening you) in the process.

As you yourself so aptly put it, it's just a war. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

(And if I'm pissy over something, it's this bullsh*t nation I've been stuck with. Rarely have I seen so many things going wrong in one nation, and all due to the original player's choices which were based on MA Ulm, which LA Ulm *gasp* ISN'T.)

Yeah? Guess what? I know I can't win (a war nor the game), and the war you chose to start was just the last nail in the coffin. Could as well make sure BEFORE I have lost all my lands that you don't get them all.

If anyone can cast a few earth attack at it (it's got an astral mage, so no mind hunts) or any other assassination spell, please do so.

If it is not eliminated, I'll have to turn around and head back to my capital.

Seriously, guys, LA Mictlan has a triple bless and is the largest player. I'm not going to stay in the game just to spoil for him - if I don't see any support I'm just going to withdraw to my own borders and try to minimize the damage.

I can probably pay for most of this, although I do have other things I could do with the gems, so donations would be nice http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif, but I don't expect any.
