I know that SEIV canīt handle animated gifs (or even JPGs), but would it be too hard to make a patch to SEIV so it can handle animated gifs? (keep in mind that i was a programmer in the time tha Clipper was the bleeding edge of technology and never programed anything since)...

They are proprietary thats why they aren't there now. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif I have wondered about this in the past if se4 could have used animated images the game would have had waaaaay more options.

Animations could always be done the SE way, with a BMP sequence. It just requires more hardcode work.

GIF isn't proprietary any longer. All of the patents involved with compression in GIF expired in 2003 or 2004, depending on your nation of residence.

Of course, GIF is a terrible format that should be avoided whenever possible (such as for use in a non-web game)... There are some animated PNG formats for lossless images, which are unencumbered by patents and copyrights.

Personally, I'd love it if aaron supported PNG's with alpha-transparencies. It would have made a lot of graphic arts work a hell of a lot easier
