With the disappearance of parabolize, the KOTH (http://koth.spaceempires.net) tournament needs a new manager. Anyone interested?

What about the EOTU tournament started by TakAhLah? Or are you talking about a manager for the SE4 version?

The basic duties of the KOTH administrator would include setting up the PBW games for opponents, updating the website, and resolving any problems that pop up. It's probably a couple of hours work per week.

Here's a thread on the EOTU:

I'm talking about managing the existing KOTH tourney, for both SE4 and SE5, rather than starting over and abandoning all of the game history.

Hmm.
Could the whole thing be automated?
An admin would still have to poke around with registering new players and tidying up every now and then...
But with the loser-notifies system, the match ups and regular updates could be fully automatic.

if we had a java programmer who had the time and was trusted enough to poke around with the PBW code, then yeah it could be automated. no-one wants to actually DO the work though.
I'd give it a shot if it were python, but I think even if it were, it'd be beyond my basic scripting skills.

I didn't know it had anything to do with PBW... I figured the players set up their own games, by any means they wanted.

Most games are done via PBW, but I think there are some that have been done by plain old PBEM. A PBW game is best for strangers that don't necessarily have a pre-existing level of trust for one or the other to host the game themselves.

Come on people... some volunteer here for the good of the game... I would but I really am not at all web proficient.

Parabolize is alive and well. He took a job up in greeland. It will be about 2-3 more weeks before he gets DSL installed. Maybe sooner. If everyone can hang tight I think we can get back on a normal schedule.
