Since I can't mod worth a flit and have neither the time nor the inclination to try to learn, I've put together a few design name files and posted them under Data etc. Mods. So far I've got:

--towns and counties in South Carolina,
--bands and singers from various eras, and
--maladies: things that'll hurt you, kill you, or otherwise make you get that not-so-fresh feeling.

Realize, though, that I created these files mostly off the top of my head, so there are a lot of bands and diseases I missed. (I did use an atlas for the SC names.) So, if you notice I omitted your favorite band or poison, please post your suggestions here, so that I may be fully subjected to public ridicule.

Next I'm thinking of putting together a file for toons (old school and the newest ones), and maybe even a file of SEIV message board denizens (though if anyone has a serious objection to seeing their username in a design name file, let me know).

Now, go take your Pearl Jam and shoot down that Aneurism!

I just posted a list of dinosaur names to that thread.

Does anybody happen to know which if any shipset or race uses the greek.txt file? Or is the greek.txt file available by itself somewhere for download?

Bands and singers has been updated and posted.

Also, I've posted a design name file of significant (and not-as-significant) women through history. OK, it's mostly actresses and musicians, but it actually has quite a few women you learned about in history class. (There are a few supermodels as well-- testosterone forbids me from excluding them completely.)

May have posted it before, but I'm about to post my "zealot" names file - great for those species that put the "mental" into "fundamntalist".

I've posted Ship Names: Dinosaurs v1.1. If you downloaded v1.0, the only change is correcting one typo: "Dromicelomimus" should be "Dromiceiomimus". (L->I)

capnq - do you mind if I use your dinasaurs design name list for the Gorn (Star Fleet Battles) AI I'm working on?

How is this dinosaurs list different from the default one that comes with SE IV? Or did I forget and copy the one I have over from SE III? http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Anyway, I gave that to the Jraenar in my setup. I see no need for the Gorn since the Jraenar have the most "Trek" looking shipset of the included races. Would really like to see the Kzinti, though! Borg and Kzinti are the two most important races 'missing' from the default SE IV setup.

Or did I forget and copy the one I have over from SE III?

You must have copied it from SE III; my install of SE IV doesn't have a dinosaur list.

I copied my dinosaur list from the card list for Steve Jackson Games' Dino Hunt collectible card game. It lists 166 varieties of dinosaurs and other contemporary creatures, most of which I'd never heard of before I bought the card game. (And when I looked at the file to count them, I noticed another editing error on my part. Version 1.2, which I just posted, removes the six "Baby" entries that I forgot to trim.)

Atrakius, I posted the list so people could use it. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Go right ahead.
