I have played 2 other games on llamaserver and never had a major glitch like this one. Let us hope he can get this fixed and we see no further delays.

Hulud the Soulstealer's tentacles and entrails (we aren't sure which is which) is now the latest exhibit of the Great Panjang's trophy hall.
That the vile assassin's target was a Panjang-Fearing member of our holy clergy shows to what despicable lengths the deviants have gone to disrupt the natural order of the waves.

In the fall of year 2 Ulm becomes the 1st land race to perish. Having spoken to Ulm. I realize he put up a valiant fight, but was playing the weakest of the weak races.
The Black Duke of Ulm is potent, but he does not help with Ulm's most glaring weakness-tramplers. Look for him to dom summon a crusher in the final version.
Thank you for playing Aapeli!

The Seraphines of Caelum salute the soldiers of Ulm for their valiant albeit futile defense. Few armies can match the rage of "Fat Ankles" war elephants. In honor of our conquered foe, we have requisitioned the services of master craftsmen to commemorate the fall of Ulm:
"Engraved on the floor is a masterfully designed image of a dwarf and an elephant by Inod Duthernurdumat. The dwarf is making a plaintive gesture. The elephant is striking down the dwarf." http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Astrology 101 reveals:
War rages between Pythium and Agartha, with a slight edge to Pythium. Though Dr. P is dangerous when wounded.
Mictlan looks as if he is wrapping up his war with Shinuyama.
Who will be the next victim?
MA Ctis Serpent King Pretender lost a head butting contest with a Grand Elephantarch. Elephants have hard heads.
Atlantis is winning its water conquest.
Powers Abysia, Bandar Log, Ermor, Marignon, and possibly Caelum look to be at peace. Caelum deserves some peace and quiet after his conquest of Ulm.

Thanks for the recommendation, but I don't think I have much of a shot, really.
Attacking Pythium turned out not to be a good move at-all, as my thugs are basically helpless against his hydras http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif.
Xietor

I hate Hydras. Several good players, QM and Tuidy, say they are not worth the money. But I hate trying to kill those things personally.
I was so happy in the Big Game when I fought Sauromatia that he did not buy any. And in Alpaca Dr. P, when you also did not buy any. Though in the Big Game with Ctis, I can understand since they have 50 percent pr. And the elite warriors in numbers would likely bring down the hydras with their double attack.
On a side note, though i have never played agartha mp, they feel slow out of the gate in sp. I think id wait for my racial summons before i started any wars.
Meglobob
December 23rd, 2007, 06:32 AM
Vs Hydras a strong cavalry charge or massed arhers/crossbows work very well. Been attacked in two other MPs with them and both were successful in defeating them.
Hydras are very good anti thugs/SC's thou. Late game with army of lead they could well be vitually unstoppable, assuming the army of lead stays when they move to a new form.
DrPraetorious
December 23rd, 2007, 01:06 PM
Yeah, I should've waited.
To say that they are not worth the money is a great oversimplification. They are not worth spending *all* of your money on. They are clearly worth their money against me.
But pythium looked vulnerable, and I thought Marignon would snap him up if I didn't, so I attacked.
And now, as is often the case, I get to enjoy the fruits of my agression.

Don't need to wait that long, I've recently become quite enamored with iron warriors. I've been using it to make my monster fish hellishly tough to take down in Evermore, seems like it'd be equally effective with hydras assuming you can land some e2 mages.

Man is looking like he is staling again. He will be set to AI if he stales a 2nd time. One thing I dislike is players abandoning the game when they are losing a war. While there is no expectation that a player fight a hopeless war to the bitter end, have the courtesy to set your race to ai if you have no desire to continue playing.
It is time consuming for the host of a game to set a player to ai. And if you have a password(which you do not need in a llamaserver game), then only llamabeast can set your race to ai.
Given the number of game he hosts, that is an unfair burden to place on him.

Sorry for the miscommunication(:
In the future I guess i will make sure games do not host on Xmas day even if no one asks for a delay. Extensions over the holidays will be liberally granted, but I did not just automatically pause the game.
Some people likely have more time to do turns over the holidays, rather than less. In any event, I did not want to pause the game if everyone wanted to keep playing.
So if you want the game paused, please post on the thread. Holiday extensions will be liberally granted.

Man's pd is not affected by Epic Heroes Mod, or the Kitchen Sink Mod. And I doubt seriously that WH Mod affects it.
I have not played Man since the 3.10 patch. But I do not think Man's pd gets longbows until level 20?
I do think you get Tower Guards before 20 though.
Zeldor
December 27th, 2007, 07:25 PM
Xietor:
I think longbowmen are even at level 30, tower guards are not fast too. Small Man PD is considerably weak ,but the higher one is really strong.
llamabeast
December 27th, 2007, 08:14 PM
PD always changes at level 20, not any other level. So if Man gets longbowmen, as seems likely, they come in at level 20.
I am pretty sure that Man's PD under 20 is just slingers and heavy infantry. I don't think it's that great. One of us could just check our manual though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif (Mine is up a whole flight of stairs!)
In any case Xietor is right that the mods would make no difference to PD, and anything else affected it is also very unlikely.
Meglobob

Ok,
I just did a test. Man's pd under 20 sucks. Militia, slingers, spearmen.
But at 20 they get a bard, and 1 tower guard and a longbowman.
So if you have a 30 pd, you have a bard, 11 tower guards, and 11 longbows. Not too bad. Under 20 though, do not rely on the pd.
Xietor
December 27th, 2007, 08:23 PM
If I were Man i would do a test and see if seeking arrow hits stealthed commanders.
If so-problem solved(unless they all have amulets missile protection-unlikely). Though depending on the hps of the raiding commanders, it may take more than 1 seeking arrow to dispatch.
And if it takes more than 1, may not be worth the cost to kill one. Mind hunt oth, at 2 s gems a cast, is quite a bargain! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Dear Man,
I did a few tests.
I regret to inform you that seeking arrow does not target stealthed units, and moreover they do not hurt units with glamour. In the back of my mind i recall that seeking arrow was useless against vanheim. Now I remember why:glamour.
But since arrows now remove glamour, perhaps this immunity to seeking arrow is an oversight that can be corrected in the next patch?
KO are you out there?
Baalz
December 28th, 2007, 12:50 PM
At any rate, I think seeking arrow just causes a regular arrow attack? If so, the reasonable armor + shield + decent HP would imply that it would take several castings to result in a kill. Unless I'm mistaken about the mechanics, seeking arrow is more a mage killer....

Sorry to be a pain, particularly as I'm probably going to be dead very shortly, but can I request a 2-day delay until the end of the 31st Jan for this turn? I'm really squeezed at the moment due to some RL complications.
* * *
Personally I don't much rate seeking arrow - it sucks unless you've got some unarmoured, low HP mages to shoot at. I guess you can spend a lot of gems on a reasonably tough target, and even then that tough target has to be pretty much the only hero present in the province.

Astrologers have studied the Stars and give this report at the start of year 3:
1. Shinuyama, noble race, has been defeated by Mictlan.
2. Agartha has reversed its fortunes and has Pythium on the ropes.
3. Eriu has almost all of Man conquered, but Beowulf lives yet. And Man still owns its castles.
4. Arcoscephale delivered a crushing blow to MA Ctis, and zoologists have placed Marshmasters on the endangered list. Lizards in general are in short supply.
5. Atlantis edges ever closing to owning all beneath the waves.
Scying has not revealed anything in the South. It appears Caelum, Abysia, and Ermor remain at peace. Bandar Log and Marignon also have not tasted war.
Xietor
January 4th, 2008, 03:13 AM
War has finally come to Abysia.
It is written in the stars that Abysia's response will be more potent than that of Man. I will be very intrigued to see how the Black Phoenix fares against Eriu's thugs. He should be able to kill them fairly easily.
Beowulf still lives, and may yet rally Man from the brink.
Valerius
January 4th, 2008, 04:01 AM
Indeed. Abysia had quite a bad turn. For those of you who haven't checked the score graphs recently I strongly suggest you look at Eriu's province count.
And, if anyone feels inclined to help out in the fight against the Eriu menace you're welcome to join the battle.
Agema

Sluice, God of Man, would like to remind all that all of the damage done to the empire of Man was inflicted whilst he was unfortunately away, dreaming of other ages. When he noted the passing of moons without his attention, he launched his forces to several victories, demolishing an army of Eriu, and riding down one of his expensively-equipped heroes, both for trivial losses in return.
Whilst Sluice doesn't hold out much hope of long-term survival, he reminds all Eriu still has a wolf biting at his hamstrings.
Sluice has also seen the future, and takes heart that even should he be vanquished, after Avalon falls as Tir Na Nog before it, come the next era Eriu will be but a memory, and his beloved people of Man will still be building proud towers up towards the heavens.

Hmm,
sounds like the boost i gave him was unneeded. Sorry Endoperez. I have to be careful not to make the immortal Epics too powerful.
I think Endoperez had the monkeyking at 8 str 8 hps. Thanks for the input.
I am thinking at this juncture:
Slight boost to
1.Pythium's Angel increase from 0 to 7 protection, a slight dominion spread, and a slow domsummon of the lowest angel(i think an angel of the choir).
2. Removing the boost I gave Bandar Log's Epic hero last turn
3. Decreasing the Agartha Epic Hero's hp or reducing the hp gain from Dr. P's weapon.
4. Reducing the number of Jaguar Warriors the Mictlan Epic hero can make per turn.
5. Substitute a Crusher for the Black Knight's present domsum to help Ulm against tramplers.
6. Arcos-instead of producing 2 hoplites a turn, he will produce 1 tougher unit.
7. Shinuyama-Reduce his MR from 40 to 25. Monks are immune from mind attacks, but in Dominion MR is also used for some attacks not affecting the mind.
8. Machaka-give immortal Assassin the ability to make some scary Spiders.
Zeldor
January 6th, 2008, 03:14 PM
Nothing for R'lyeh? Is he better assassin than machakan?
Xietor
January 6th, 2008, 03:34 PM
Ryleh has the ability to charm enemies, which is powerful.
I may remove his lifeless penalty, so that he can regenerate.
But he has a life drain attack now that gives him back life.
He also has mind blast, and nice melee attacks.
He is much more powerful than machaka assassin, but he is not immortal. Since he has no magic skills, however, i could allow him to make some kind of unit. Maybe an immobile type unit that aids castle defense.

The bad thing is that he died to first Smite. The first time he got really attacked by soemthing he instantly died. I guess he gets better with items, but other heroes are getting even better too.

Some things are just unlucky. I had a Banelord with 42 hps and full items die to 1 mind burn once. In the Big Game, K lost a Dark Knight from Bogus to a pd militiaman.
Smite can be resisted with high mr. I will revisit his hp/mr,
but if memory serves he has good mr and hps. It is wise to give your heroes a mr boost item/luck if possible.
None of the Epic Heroes should be able to defeat an awake sc pretender naked.

What was in that boost, only more hp and strength.
As the monkey king has a wapon that does 20 damage, strength is of almost no importance, and later when he can start to use the brands anyway.
And also with a protection of 30 and glamour and resistances of 100 to every element, you dont care how high your HP are as long as they are bigger than 1.
And when you prophetize the Monkey King he gets more HP anyway, and to use an immortal unit outside of your dominion is not the smartest idea anyway.

It is with profound regret that Arcoscephale announces that Nation of MA Ctis has been vanquished. Had the Serpent King not taken Death Dominion, in effect killing off the Lizards that Arcoscephale loves, things may have happened differently.
As it was Bones felt duty-bound to save as many Lizards as he could from the Serpent King's heartless dominion. Lizards will become full citizens, with equal rights in the Empire.

The ravenous hordes of Mictlan have descended upon the pristine peaks of Caelum. Hundreds of unstoppable triple blessed jaguars and eagle warriors have devoured provinces all along the Caelum border. Our brave province garrisons were swatted away like mere flies. Against such ferocious, twice lived foes, our great mammoths present no more than a light snack. The eldest of our wise men and Seraphs have been mobilized to face this threat.
Twice have we offered the mighty Mictlan empire an honorable duel limited to only Mictlan and Caelum. Twice have our approaches been ignored. Perhaps there are some who believe cooperation with the devil will buy them time. This couldn't be further from the truth. We call on all nations of the land to aid the Caelum nation in its hour of need against the nefarious blessed killers of Mictlan. Mictlan currently has the largest province base and gem income. Their only weakness lies in their poor research, but the window on this weakness will soon close, and then Mictlan will be unstoppable. Their Epic champion calls upon seven of the most savage twice lived killers the world has ever known every single month, and their priest kings and mages with access to virtually all types of magic will come into power very soon.
The Elders of Caelum have come up with a plan of last resort against Mictlan: Kill every single priest king and sky priest of Mictlan by magic. With even a single priest king or sky priest, their triple blessed hordes are unstoppable. We call upon all nations who recognize the scourge that is Mictlan to coordinate with the Caelum Council, or all is lost.

Cuxtal the sky priest half rolled/flew to avoid the incoming seeking arrow but determined to get his words out before the end, shouted, 'if you believe the above false propaganda you are a bigger fool then Lemming the fool who goes around in a pointy hat with a big F on it and fool written underneath'.
Suddenly, the midday sun was hidden but Cuxtal was perfectly happy to fight in the dark http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif, then he knew why it was dark, with hordes of seeking arrows blotting out the sun...holy [censored]!

Late Summer of year 3-
1. Ryleh has died, and Atlantis rules over the Oceans.
At this time I wish to thank Zeldor, who stayed to the very end and did all of his turns, even though hope had long since been lost. I know Zeldor was not impressed by the Ryleh Epic hero, and if he can dig up the Epic Heroes Thread on the Mod Forum-likely page 2 or 3-post some suggestions and I will give them all serious consideration.
2. MA Ermor's imprisoned Pretender broke free.
3. Bandar Log and MA Ermor are the only 2 races to have not tasted war. While their empires look good on paper, many empires do before they face a live opponent.

The wily priest kings of Mictlan have resorted to luring clueless independent commanders to serve as living shields for them against the seeking arrows of justice. Human scouts and captains now march with the inhuman savages.
The elders of Caelum have to dig deep into their wisdom and ancient lores of war to hold the screaming weredevils of Mictlan at bay.

"And what pray tell did the Eriu spy have to say for himself before being crushed by a War Elephant?" asked the Arcoscephale General.

Stifling a yawn the Elephant Trainer replied, "He said the Eriu pretender trusts us not, and decided to scout our lands for possible air drops."
"Not surprising," the General mused. "Obviously the Eriu General knows not of humility. But our Astrologers assure us that it will be a one way trip for any thug who drops in Arcoscephale lands."

The Ancient Seraph views the carnage around him. Bodies of burnt, broken, and mishapen enemy jaguars litter the battlefield, some of them struck down in the midst of shapeshifting. Fallen eagle warriors with their false wings attest to the enemies' aspirations of flight.
News came to him of similar successes from other raiding parties, but also of heart wrenching defeats. Of the seven carefully planned raids, four have succeeded and three have failed, a far too costly undertaking considering that surprise was on their side this time.
He had given a good accounting of himself this day. But he is old, his body wracked with disease, his eyes dulled by cataracts, his tired spent wings could no longer lift him up into the sky. He had flung his last thunder this day. He lies back down to experience the breathtaking sunset one last glorious time. Tomorrow, the battle will go on without him.

Under the waves there was joy unconfined as news that the last of the heretics who dared to defy The Great Panjang's Benevolence have broken, abandoned by their false prophets by the Divine Righteousness of Panjang Himself. The minionry, so long chafing under the rule of the deviants, can finally look forward to peace and the rebuilding of their homes. The sharks wept.
Yet, Panjang is uneasy.
Already have the land dwellers on their mysterious hoofed steeds laid claim to the seas that are His by Right. Though they have learnt to venture into the waves no more, Panjang knows that greedy eyes forever lurk from without, looking for the chance to enslave his minionry. Next time, they may come without warning in greater numbers and power.
Panjang will have to learn about the surface world. Panjang will have to seek friends and teachers.

High Priest Raymond: Greetings most righteous followers of Taurvati. May he fill you with power!
Overly Zealous Crowd: We are filled with Taurvati’s wisdom.
High Priest Raymond: You followers have been very righteous. But it is now important that you be more righteous then ever. I am going to tell you a story.
Tithe Collector: (scowl)
High Priest Raymond: There was once this monkey, who happened to be born from a magic egg. The egg caused the monkey to think he was special, and because he did not grow up learning about the love of Taurvati, he got very greedy. Not being happy with what he was born with, he used evil and mischief to gain more power. He learnt illusion and flying, and bullied people into giving him magic items. Not being satisfied with even this he has done the ultimate evil. He has eaten the peaches of life and become immortal.
Flagellant Bob: How awfull. Then we must talk to him about the peace and happiness of Taurvati.
High Priest Raymond: We have tried that, but he has been filled with evil for so long he has not been listening. And even worse this monkey has formed his own kingdom, and pronounced himself king. This has kept our missionaries from teaching other monkies from learning about Taurvati’s wisdom.
Flagellant Bob: That is so sad.
Tithe Collector: (grunt)
High Priest Raymond: That leaves only one thing that we can do. In order for those monkeys to learn about the happiness that we all live in, we most get rid of the evil monkey king, and his co- conspirators. Only then, can the monkeys be saved.
Overly Zealous crowd: (chanting) Save the monkeys! Destroy the monkey king! Save the monkeys! Destroy the monkey king!
Flagellant Bob: I will beat the monkey king myself.
Tithe Collector: (hmmmmm) – he then takes off on his own some where. Presumably to make another statue.

Man, Abyssia, T'ien Ch'i = crippled and easily defeatable if I had the luxury of focusing on them. Tenatious S.O.B.'s aren't interested in rolling over short of that so we're stuck trading a few provinces back and forth.
Ermor & Arco = Defeatable one on one, divided up as I am I can only offer a token defense to either one and with both attacking with good thug counters (strong astral) I don't stand too much chance. Hitting me from both ends they're (barring diplomatic constraints) quite likely to split all the territories I've taken and put the above three out of their misery.

Baalz's tactic with the stealth caught me very much on the hop as Man, although nothing was quite as crippling for me as being stale the first two turns I was attacked. Agema, you've done a wonderful job in a rough situation. FWIW what I did would have taken the most veteran player unexpected. I attacked with no warning whatsoever, using thugs nobody could deal with at the time and hit every one of your provinces in two turns - you just had the misfortune of being next to me when I hit con-4. Honestly, if you had stayed dead when you were down to just a sieged capital (I badly underestimated Beowulf and was way too slow countering those knights) I would have been able to roll over Abyssia fast enough to have the forces ready hit T'ien Ch'i overwhelmingly the turn that war started leaving me with free troops to fight Arco or Ermor while skirmishing the other. The fact I wrote you off prematurely is directly responsible for my current woes.

Silver Orang is just a name I came up with. So it has no intentional reference to anyone or anything, living or dead. Any resemblance to anyone or anything is purely coincidental, and if proven otherwise by a final judgment of a court with valid jurisdiction, it should be considered "fair use" of the term(s) within the meaning of the International Copyright Act.

Bones addressed the faithful:
"Eriu is far from done. But while their Great Mother with 405 hps(in her dominion), 16 revig, 25 prot, and 86 regen, is fighting us, our friends are regaining what they lost.
So other nations should see little resistance in gobbling up Eriu Provinces.
Rumors spread by Eriu that Arcoscephale is attacking Tien Chi's capital are an attempt to sow dissension among the victimes of Eriu's aggression that have banded together to throw his Tuathians back into their own foul lands.
We have a mutual defense pact and a 3 turn nap with noble Tien Chi. And we have worked in concert with Tien Chi. And it is our intention to see Tien Chi occupy Eriu's capital.
Arcoscephale is not an aggressive nation. We treat with our friends, and wreck havoc on our enemies. Any race with a death dominion IS an enemy of Arcoscephale. And we are comfortable with our present borders.
While our forward army was defeated by the Great Mother last turn, we are pleased that our brave troops hacked so deeply into one of her giant legs that she now walks with a limp.
Our Astrologers have also marked the Great Mother for special attention should a Nation with Blood Magic desire to send a Horror or 4 to the province in which she dwells(180).

If the servers 3.10 and you use 3.14 you will crash the server and the turn will not run until your 2h file is deleted.
Meaning you will stale or after do your turn all over again from scratch using 3.10.
Copy your dom exec to your desktop, rename Dom310, cut/paste it back where it was. Then install 3.14. Now you can play sp 3.14 and use the 3.10 exec to do your turns.

"Let the Mind Hunts Begin in Ernest!"
"Also General, hard times call for hard measures. You may notice that our forces are now being bolstered by undead generals. I do not anticipate that your men shall ever be in close quarters with the undead.
But I have determined these Undead Generals are just what we need to take back our provinces from Eriu with minimal loss. Not to mention, should we outguess him and have our Bane Lords waiting in a province he attacks, his fey thugs will prove no match for our Undead Generals.

From north and south foul sorceries destroy the minds of our lords while foul undead are raised in ever growing numbers as the twins Arcoscephale and Ermor slowly crush the life from us. Insurgents in the former nations of Abyssia and Man continue to bleed us while the Emperor of T’ien Ch’i continues to mount resistance and defy our retribution for his aggression. Our noble lords are slowly ground down as the waves erode boulders, small as their lives and will are these common men have numbers without end.
The future looks bleak for the Sidhe, and the last of the Tuatha suit for their final battles. With little hope of lasting victory we marshal our last strength in defense of the old ways. Once we are gone the world shall be a bleaker place but one thing is certain, the final verse of the Tuatha song will be a glory worth singing.

Atlantis isn't a leader, just bumbling along, discovering new things about the game every turn! %^$#@ castles on land can't recruit any leaders was one lesson I learnt that way. And that there are SOOOOO many spells that can't be cast underwater which I had taken for granted.
Incidentally, when you receive a notice that so and so has been slain by a mental attack - that means you've been targeted with a mind hunt? Whats the best way to prevent those? My poor scout... anyway, is there a way to tell if theres been a failed attack against you?

Yes, definately mind hunt.
Have your own S mage in the province.
It fails when you get a message saying your dude resisted and survived.

*sigh* incidentally, you'd think having a MR of 17-21 would provide some resistance to mindhunts, even with penetration boosts. Sadly I'm not exaggerating when I estimate that about 15 of 18 mindhunts I've been hit with this game have been successful. Am I wrong about the mechanics of how that works (figuring I'd have a better than even chance against even a rune smasher + eye of the void + spell focus) or was I just unlucky? I suppose some of them could have been from big astral pretenders, but man it's annoying to watch even my guys with MR pendants dropping like Ulmish knights.
Anyway, I'm not long for this world. I'm going down fighting, but I do hereby release those of my neighbors who've held their NAP's with me. No need for my friends to miss out on the feeding frenzy...

Well you have been slightly unlucky Baalz, 17-21 MR is simply not high enough, you still have a 30% - 40% chance of dieing, approx.
Thats why sometimes lead shield, rainbow armour and armour of souls are good too.
Of course, it sucks big time when you play a nation with little or no astral magic.

I feel for you Baalz even though I must admit I am the guilty party with respect to your mind hunts. And you are correct, the mind hunts are pen. 5.
In Alpaca i was facing Gameextremist who was playing Arcos, while I was playing Pangaea(high mr mages)and I was simply amazed as to how high your mr needs to be to resist mind hunts. Typically above 25 is almost mind hunt proof. 23-25 is pretty safe.
Below 23 and it is open season. I have 2-3 threads that fell on deaf ears on the forums saying cost for mind hunt should be raised above the paltry 2 s gems it costs.
And the sad thing with arcos, is the risk of feeble mind is completely negated if you have 3 priestesses set to healing in the province from which you are mind hunting.
I finally took his capital and that ended the mind hunts. Short of that, you are screwed.

I would caution any race that taking "free provinces" from an enemy when i have done the bulk of the work is viewed by me with great displeasure.
If you are not presently at war with Eriu(I thought everyone was), than take Eriu provinces at your own risk.

Lastly, I want to do a public salute to Baalz. He came up with a tremendous strategy for playing what I wrongly thought was a race with no hope. And it is completely viable in a vanilla game with no mods.
Had Baalz not be ganged by 5 races, he certainly could have won this game. Which is why I suspect he started a new game with score graphs off! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Flagellant Bob: I just heard some horrible news. I have heard some bad things about the monkey king, but I didn’t think even he would resort to that.
Missionary Dave: You are referring to what happened to poor Taurvati? (may he fill us with power.)
Flagellant Bob: But Taurvati is so gentle, and has done so many good things. He only rose to become the new god so he could save the world from wickedness. Is what the monkey king did really true?
Missionary Dave: I am afraid so. Last month Taurvati learned he had a number of followers in one of Bandar Logs provinces. He traveled there to teach these people, and give them wisdom. But the mischievous monkey king showed up. Taurvati tried to reach out to him, but instead the monkey king poked him in the eye. Tauvrati, as powerfull as he is, could have easily defeated this monkey, but instead Taurvati flew away so he could think of some other way to reach out to this wicked creature.
Flagellant Bob: But now Taurvati is going to have to spend the rest of his existence with only one eye! I will poke the monkey king in the eye and see how he likes it.
Missionary Dave: Remember Flagellant Bob, Taurvauti teaches forgiveness and to only use violence when necessary. The Grand Masters forgot about that and got greedy with there power and what happened?
Flagellant Bob: heretic monkeys arrived and slew them.
Missionary Dave: But Marignon had many virtuous followers such as yourself and what happened?
Flagellant Bob: Creatures out of the sea rose up, and destroyed the heretic statue makers, and powerful angels arrived and helped us drive the heretic monkeys out.
Missionary Dave: See! When you are virtuous things go your way. And now the heretic monkeys are on the run ,and we have freed a number of provinces from the monkey kings influence. Which means we can now start teaching the monkeys the joy and wisdom of Taurvati.
Flagellant Bob : Hurrah!!! We get to save the monkeys!
Missionary Dave: Now you should really find the Tithe Collector. He has some things he needs you to do.
Flagellant Bob: The Tithe Collector scares me, but I will find him. (He starts wandering off chanting ‘Stop the monkey king! Save the monkeys! ‘ )

General Tartasis reporting to Bones: Our never defeated army was destroyed my lord. The Tuatha mages cast fog warriors, then the great mother cast earthquakes, while their other mages peppered our troops with orb lighting, petrify, and frozen heart.
Bones: Baalz has feigned weakness it seems. Eriu is far from dead. We will have to pull the remnants of our army back to our lands and regroup. A sound defeat.
Our fears that Atlantis has been aiding Eriu with gems is also confirmed. And more than that it seems they are acting in concert. The foolish undersea dweller does not realize that destroying Eriu, if we are able to finish the task, is a public service.

Atlantis aiding Eriu with gems? Acting in concert? The mind hunters have great penetration, but this must have been quite a desperate shot in the dark.
Panjang proclaims anathema to heretics, those who threaten his abode under the waves, and those who betray him. The concerns of the rest of the landlings interest him not. In fact Eriu's plight concerns him even less, as it is a most fitting punishment for they who were foolhardy enough to venture into the deep seas without Panjang's leave*.

Never fear, the world vs Eriu alliance remains strong. Atlantis is in fact on the very long list of people attacking me and in fact was the first to do so other than the ones I attacked. That battle really only used like 15 gems, just had the right research and it was unexpected.
The song of the Tuatha continues to draw to a close, this was likely the climax as I remain utterly unable to staunch the blood flow. Those who haughtily lay claim to the heartland of Eriu though will find no free meal here.

Baaltz you lost a host of vine shields. there is no way you had that many n gems. Someone is feeding you(or was).
Though you are outnumbered, 3 of the nations are small and/or have new players, and one stale turns a lot and has more interest in taking abysia provinces then taking yours.
But it is always harder to dig out a person in his castles in his dominion. Much easier to defend than attack when it comes to castles.
You had a good battle plan. I actually anticipated the fog warriors, but not the earthquakes. Not much i can do about that with my present research and mage paths anyway.

Nah, with the exception of one trade partner (who I traded for some nature gems) the most anyone has done to help me is to honor their NAPs. You will, of course, believe what you want but with the epic heroes in play and plenty of time (at this point) to have adjusted themselves every single one of my adversaries is steadily advancing on me, it's pointless to even send out lone thugs with Ermor and Arco very effectively mind hunting me regardless of who's territories I attack, and being attacked by 6 people (7 if the Mictlan AI decides I look like a weak target)...well, my larger armies can only be in a couple places at a time and other than a couple tricks aren't that terribly scary.
I suppose your point is that you believe I'm feigning weakness, I guess I'll take that as a compliment that you fear me despite the terrible position I'm in. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Bandar Log is crushed, we werent able to defend against the evil empire of marignon. Our great army was shattered without survivors. Raiding parties of the evil empire roam free through our territory.
The people of Bandar Log are leaving their territory, hoping to get asylum in the east in arcoscephale. And the human leaders of the outer parts of the empire are starting to collaborate open with the enemy.
We call on the empires of Atlantis and Arcoscephale to shield as much of our territory from marignon as they can.
Notes to the log.
Communions are no tool for battles, when you see 20 communion slaves die in one turn, then something is quite wrong. (Just 6 masters)

There's a 1% chance of a mistform being cancelled by an attack, and it's automatically cancelled if 25+ points of damage after protec are caused. I think flaming arrows actually cause two attacks (the arrow, then the fire). So that gives them twice as much likelihood of getting a 1% cancelling, as well as the chances that 25 damage may be inflicted on one of the two occasions.
It's possible that the fire and the arrow may be counted together for the damage, in which case 10-12 damage (AP?) plus an AP fire attack has a fair chance of causing 25 damage to unit with average protec in the one attack.

Let it be known to the neighbours of Ermor - Watch your borders well, and be aware that treaties by their diplomats are worth less than the offal of the very least of their blood slaves.
Also let it be known that Anual, the spineless fountain idolised by the misguided peoples of Ermor is now dust, along with a coterie of his grand thaumaturg underlings. Drunk with their own intoxicating astral powers, they underestimated the powers of the Deep. They paid the price with their deaths.

I had a request to turn off auto host and did so. So you can send in your turn early without worry that the turn will process. The game will not process a turn until the 48 hours has elapsed.
Xietor
March 8th, 2008, 09:50 AM
We had 2 players stale last turn. With quickhost off, there is no reason not to do a 5 minute turn early that covers the basics, then submit a more detailed turn later.
Things happen in life, and something may come up where you cannot do a detailed turn later. That is why it is smart to do a basic turn and send it in early. The game will not host until the 48 hour period elapses even if every player submits a turn.
So you still have the full 48 hours regardless of whether you submit a turn early. My empire is as big as most, and my base turn took 5 minutes.

A reminder on a couple of house rules:
1. unexplained stales 2 turns in a row will result in either me finding a sub for your nation(even if I have to delay the game), or setting your race to ai if it is not viable.
2. All requests for 24 hour delays must be posted on the game thread. Do not pm me with the request. If a delay is granted, it affects every player and everyone should know why the delay is occurring.
I find I get bored and lose interest in games that get delayed too often(Alpaca is my best example), or have a long host schedule(72 hours), and I will not sacrifice the fun of the many for the few.
3. No request for an extension of more than 24 hours will be granted, unless it is a holiday. If you are going on vacation etc., find a sub. If you need help finding a sub pm me.
4. Dominions games take a long time to complete. Several months. EH I went about 110 turns. Therefore my view of a good game admin is to keep the game moving inexorably forward towards conclusion.
The end game takes more time to do turns. If you are in several mp games, or work insane hours, or have a demanding wife etc, and do not anticipate being able to manage turns on a 48 hour schedule, it may be time to look for a permanent sub. EH II, like EH I, will not be moving to a 72 hour host schedule.

1. I am going to tone down the immortal heroes a bit.
A. Monkey King's protection will be reduced to 20, and his resists will be 50 percent to everything rather than 100.
B. Will wait for input on the other immortal heroes. Though machaka is fine as is.
2. Arcoscephale-will get a magical tusk attack. When he has 2 shields now his only attack is a "useless kick." Arcos. will also be able to make at 1 per turn a decent foot soldier to mix with elephants for morale. This is thematic with his abilty to train soldiers as a great general.
3. Atlantis Epic Hero-Silver Orangs will be a rare dominion summon, and Epic Hero can make 1 per turn. Presently in strong dominion he gets 5 per turn which was not intended.
Atlantis Epic Hero will also lose his 2 death gems per turn and his ability to increase dominion.
Silver Orang's morale will be lowered to 12.
4. Black Phoenix-really has no thematic blood ties, so it is not thematic for him to produce blood slaves or blood summons. I may do away with the blood slaves, and have him summon comparable fire creatures.
5. Pythium's Angel will get an increase dominion ability, and a rare summon of the small angels of the host.
6. Shinuyama's Epic hero's mr is being reduced. Though monk's are traditionally immune to mind control spells, they should not be immune to other mr negates spells that are not mind control spells.
7. Agartha's Epic Hero needed a combat boost, but the weapon Dr. P gave him heals a bit too much. Will have to consult with Dr.p to see if we can tone it down just a tad.

You should be dead for 20 turns or more http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I was really surprised that Atlantis did not destroy Ermor fast, with geography like that etc. Though he was doing some strange things in the north.

Well there are 5 globals up now, and only Arcoscephale's global helps all nations. Every race has less disease, old age, and more income resulting from well of misery. And my benefit is small, gems with limited use in the endgame where astral/fire spells make it unwise to invest in undead troops.
So if anyone is looking to dispel something, you cut off your nose to spite your face to remove well of misery that benefits your race as much as mine.

March 15th, 2008, 12:40 PM
But why do you really need both Chalice and Tartarian factory?
Xietor
March 15th, 2008, 12:53 PM
Tartarian factory? I have 2 tartarians. Atlantis was making tartarians many turns before i even hit conj 9 on prov 228. Lord only knows how many tartarians Atlantis has-though you have lost at least 3 in combat. And since you have the dark sceptre, only my pretender can make them.
As to the chalice, it is one of the very few constr 8 artifacts that Shard left. I guess with Gift of Health up, he saw no need to buy the chalice. But he certainly could have as he beat me to constr 8 by several turns(and he had the forge up).
But are faulting me for forging it when it is available, or your predecessor for not forging it?
Zeldor
March 15th, 2008, 01:00 PM
I was just making a guess as I had no idea who has it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
But yeah, I can fault shard for many things. IF he really could forge Chalice and didn't do it then hmm... well, he could even forge it and sell to someone or just keep away from someone.
It is strange that Atlantis is first in research, his RP count is not great for that stage of game.
Xietor
March 15th, 2008, 01:38 PM
Oh, it is no secret who has it. I have already told most players I had it so they would not assume Atlantis had it.
It will be interesting to see who casts GOH next, and what, if any, spell it overwrites.
Xietor
March 17th, 2008, 01:36 PM
Interesting. A slot mysteriously appeared for another global.
I have a strong hunch that will not be the case for long. Though Arcoscephale has too few gems to cast any globals for itself(: Well except for d gems, and most the globals I can cast with those will result in world war. With me being solo

Beowulf will live on to honor Man as a Captain of the Royal Guard. For those too lazy to check the Hall of Fame from time to time, Beowulf eluded the Eriu forces and entered the realm of Arcoscephale seeking Asylum.(you get a gold star if you can figure out how it was done Baalz).
The peaceful Astrologers, having taken in refugees from Bandar Log, could hardly refuse the Noble Beowulf.

Could you postpone hosting for the game? Internet went down in the dormitory and they are a bit lazy here and I don't think they will repair it before monday. I am in cafe but I rather have no chance to make turn here [I can look for smth better on Monday if they do not repair Internet]. Thanks:)
I will delay the game until Monday morning because it is Easter Sunday. Requests for delays will be ignored without explanation if they are not posted on the game thread.
However, it is a 24 hour delay. It is not a delay until your dorm gets it internet fixed.

Arcos, is at best in 3rd place, and likely 5th.
Eriu even has 3 capitals now. Atlantis has the most research, gems, elemental royalty, tartarians, constr 8 artifacts, etc.
I think Shard would kill you if he came back from his trip and his sub had declared the 5th place player the winner. lol.

Tichy,
Thanks for playing. Hopefully you have some thoughts on Tien Chi's Epic hero. Likely not so much on Eriu's Epic hero as baalz lost him to indies(:
BTW Baaltz, Cathbad had some fairly wicked dominion summons had he survived.
Zeldor
March 22nd, 2008, 03:05 PM
How long are you trying to sell that 'fear evil Atlantis' story to people? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I must say it worked great, but against some weaker players, that were quite easy to manipulate.
You have at least 3x more tartarians than Atlantis does. And I wouldn't be surprised if it was 10x more. You have huge squads of mind hunters, soul slayers etc.
Atlantis lead in research won't matter in couple turns anyway. And we all know how huge quality difference is between mages of Arco and Atlantis or Caelum. There are simply weaker and stronger nations in that game.
Tichy
March 22nd, 2008, 04:23 PM
Baalz,
Thanks for the compliment. Declaring war on you was the only decision I could have made at the point in the game when I made it -- No other avenue of expansion except for through a friendly nation -- but it was the worst decision I could have made. Like declaring war against a brick wall. You throw yourself at it and it hurts. Throw yourself at it hard enough and it falls on you. Then you're underneath a brick wall, which is not nearly as fun as it sounds.
Xietor,
Thanks for inviting me. I liked Li Bo, though I was a bit timid with him. No armor slot made it difficult for me to think of him as a fighter against anything really tough, but he's a good raider stopper if he gets a good first shot -- and since he's immortal, bad luck isn't nearly as costly. In a larger battle I put reinvig. and penetration items on him, put him near the back and had him throw spells. Even there, though, I was really leery of taking him out of dominion because he's so fragile.

In conclusion: When EHIII rolls around, I think I'll play a nation that occasionally gets mages with 3 in something useful.

Epic Heroes II is now at turn 70. Of the 18 starting races, only eight Nations remain, and only 6 are true contenders.
1. Atlantis(Shard/Zeldor)3 capitals, but clams galore, most gem income, most artifacts, water race, 2 globals
2. Caelum(Lolomo)4 capital quiet, and building up.....
3. Eriu(Baalz)(3 capitals)
4. Marignon(Sir_Dr_D(3 capitals, global)
5. Arcoscephale(Xietor) 3 capitals, global)
6. Ermor(Sieger, AdmiralZhao)most powerful MA race, most powerful Epic Hero, 1 global), AdmiralZhao handicapped a bit in that he took over from a player that had many stale turns).
7. Abysia(Valerius)(gets the true grit award. His tenacity at fighting Eriu is much admired. Unlike Man and Tien Chi,
Eriu has not been able to nail the coffin lid shut on Abysia).
8. Pythium(Zoshan)-few provinces, but not at war with anyone. Maybe he will outlast all but the winner?

Yeah, I'm not sure what I was thinking there. I saw the Murdering Winters coming, but didn't quite put it together that your armies would attack after the blizzards came through. Poor little death-angel.
Also, I would like to amend Xietor's list. Ermor is most decidedly not a true contender. All we can really hope for at this point is to soak up some more of Atlantis's water gems.

Hostilities between ancient enemies Eriu and Arcoscephale have resumed. Both nations own 3 capitals, and Eriu has many forts.
Other Nations are advised to watch only.
While Eriu lost some provinces on turn 1, he lost few armies and no castles. It was Arcoscephale's inability to capture a single castle from Eriu in the last war, and great losses of troops in the trying, that forced us to make a peace.

33 battles last turn. after I watched about 6 I gave up and decided not to watch anything but "key" ones.

Well, the last kitchen sink has sailed over the wall and the nation of Eriu will almost certainly have nothing of note left after the next turn. GG everybody, without exception every one of you guys I invaded were extremely tenacious and just refused to die when (I felt http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ) you really should have! Should be an interesting finish as I wouldn't put much money on either of the three leaders at this point, too close to call, but I wouldn't let Arco sit on my lands unmolested too long if I were you. Not going AI yet as I want my last set of orders executed, but plan to next turn.

Good game Baalz!
Nice communion work btw. I feared that would happen and teleported in reinforcements or you likely would have won that battle.
You were/are very tenacious in your own right, and have bled me pretty bad. And I am sure there is more to come(:
As to the winner, I would not put any money on me either, as Caelum was allowed to sit and build up too long, and Atlantis has unlimited gem income by now.
With Lolomo's endgame expertise, I would give him the nod over Atlantis. In the Big Game I had a hard time figuring out what Lolomo was doing to me, much less stop it. Like the Big Game he has had eons of time to build up; but unlike the Big Game, he has had 4 capitals instead of one to augment his clams.
But Eriu is not done, you have your capital and other castles, and still have numerous thugs, plus the angels you persuaded Pythium or Marignon to give you(:
No one has given me any Angels(:
Baalz
April 14th, 2008, 02:12 PM
Lol, nope, those angels were not given, they joined in the attack when you did and soaked up some of my anti-tartarian charming.
Meh, my capital is practically deserted and you've killed 2/3rds of my raiders while I have no unseiged castles to get more. After this turn's battles I really don't expect to have anything worthwhile to captain.

Charm != seduction. Being a magical persuasion I imagine it would effect the areas of the mind susceptible to any bargaining or persuasion, convincing the victim they *want* to work for you based on whatever motivation they have.
LoloMo

Caelum have no units that can make any gem producing items. Arco is definitely the nation in the lead right now by a long margin.
