I have played my first 10 hour none stop session of SE V. (Beta Version 1.61) I am very happy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
I started playing just to test the 1.60 then 1.61 beta and before I knew it, I had been playing for five hours. I did stop to eat dinner and feed the horse and cat, but then I was right back at it again. Now its time for bed.
The game has come a very long ways since its release, as many of us knew it would, and I am tickled pink by how much fun the game is now. Sure it still has some quirks, but those are not even worth mentioning at this point.
The game looks great, has a good space empires feel to it, and is enjoyable to play.
Hats off to Aaron once again.

I have to agree. After playing the earlier versions a lot, I'd recently fallen back on waiting for official updates. 1.56 was a fantastic patch! I've also suddenly found myself putting in far more time than in the past, and of course playing until too late at night because I can't put it down. And the updates are still rolling in! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

What about the AI? Still suck? Is there a mod out there yet (Balance?) that makes a decent AI?
And how is the UI now? Does it still make everything difficult?
Thanks,
AMF

The UI has become very functional with many short cuts, customizable sorting, and right click menu's. I found myself zapping through things without feeling frustrated, as the intuitiveness of the UI became apparent. I was having fun, and I found that a lot of the annoyances that used to drive me away from playing were not present. I cannot speak to the AI, for me it seemed ok and somewhat challenging at times. So far I am seriously enjoying my game. And that is a first.

You could say I'm less picky. I've been playing since it came out and I haven't noticed any sudden change in things like the UI and menu. Perhaps it's just been more gradual for me.

I have been playing the game since the first beta version, and have played at least one game with each beta version since then. This is the first time I found myself actually playing without realizing how much time had passed. I found that I was enjoying the game at a level that I had never experienced prior to the 1.61 beta. I think a lot of people will be happy once the next official patch comes out.

Scientists Agree: SEV 1.56+ + Balance Mod 1.10+ = Win

*** Breaking News! ***
Word is out, Atrocities has given his official approval to SE V and now it's suitable for fussy old gamers who only play the 'good' stuff. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
Of course, the Balance Mod makes a huge difference in the quality of play, what with the AI being an order of magnitude smarter...

So when can we expect 57 official Atrocities Star Trek shipsets? The existing SFC ports are nice, but they lack that special Atrocities charm. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I'm not a fussy old gamer. I'm not old!

I wonder how much is the game improving, and how much is Atrocities mapping it into his subconscious.

Believe me Fyron there is nothing more that I would love to do than to be skillful enough with 3d max than to make dozens of my own ship sets. The truth is I am only just now beginning to grasp the fundamentals of a basic 3d program like max and that is only with outdated freeware versions of other 3d programs.

Just wait ~ five months for Spore... all the 3D editors in that game output to a Maya compatible format, fully rigged and textured. The vehicle and UFO editors should be a great tool for ship sets... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I'd settle for a quick and dirty ST mod using just the current races available, but thats just me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
