...What's a good (Legal) video download/purchase website that is either in Canada or doesn't restrict downloads to a region?

There aren't really any very good ones, sadly. The media cartels just don't get the digital era...

Well, even a partial download of a good series or a few good movies would be worth it, as long as it isn't a bad site.

...All of them are bad sites?

Basically. The ones that really are legit come with way too much baggage. Downloads from iTunes basically will only play in iTunes/Quicktime. Downloads from Netflix requires you to download and install their own special player, and will not play in anything else. Ditto for Amazon Unbox. All of them have pretty poor selection compared to your corner video rental place.

Probably not quite what you had in mind, but plenty of free and legal and DRM-free video downloading joy to be had at www.channel101.com (http://www.channel101.com) and www.channel102.net (http://www.channel102.net) - all kinds of wierd and wonderful stuff there, some good, some bad, some (OK, most) of it just makes you wonder what the hell those guys were smoking...

Some of my favourites from those two sites listed below. Browse through the "cancelled" shows to find them- "cancelled" doesn't mean it sucks, just that it got outvoted once. The "Failed Plots" are sometimes worth a look, but there are more than a few lemons in there.

The joy of ch101/ch102 is that the content is so diverse. Some shows are serious attempts at drama or animation, some are people in cardboard masks running around, some are simply 5 minute shows built around a punny title... It's well worth an hour of anyone's time.

Anyway, my recommended watch list, in no particular order:

- Ringwald and Molly (hilarious)
- Sockbaby (totally incomprehensible, but great fight scenes)
- Fun squad (wierd, funny, and strangely poignant after a few epsidoes)
- American cookbook (Cold War cookery at its best)
- Cat News (ask yourself; what's important to cats?)
- The Wright Stuff (really really funny)
- Wastelander ((Just... bizarre)
- The Jogger (Really impressive)
- Jesus Christ: Supercop (some ppl might find this offensive, but the rest will laugh till they cry)
- Food (Amazing what you can do with just a script and some random objects)
- The Tribe (prehistoric office politics)
- Twigger's Holiday (Just for the sheer acid-trip-ness of it)
- Computerman (With the real Jack Black!)
