View Full Version : Fallacy - Middle Era (Started!)

Fallacy
Status Page: http://www.ArsNotoria.net/dominions3/stats.php?game=Fallacy
Game Type: TCP/IP (static server)
Speed: 72. Quickhost enabled.
Era: Middle
Players: 22 (all) – or however many we get.
Start: Nations will be assigned when we are filled, or 96 hours – whichever is first. The game will start 48-72 hours after nations are posted or when all nations are uploaded.
Nation Selection: First Come, First Serve (Post here what you want)
Map: 15 provinces per player pre-generated map (http://www.ArsNotoria.net/dominions3/fallacy.zip).
Victory Conditions: 165 out of 330 (~50%) provinces controlled for 3 consecutive turns, or the surrendering of all other players.
Hall of Fame: 15
Renaming: On
Everything Else: Defaults
Masterpass: Enabled
Length: If you aren’t eliminated this game might last 6+ Months. Be prepared!
Mods: Big-Game v1.1 Mod here: http://www.ArsNotoria.net/dominions3/bg11.zip
IP: ArsNotoria.net
Port: 10375
After nations are assigned I’ll need you to email your pretender password to velusion(at)sbcglobal.net or PM me. This is because I’ve had issues with the Master Password working in the past AND so we can give your nation to another human player if you disappear. This is not optional. If you PM me your password make sure and include your email address if you would like to be included in the diplomacy email distribution list or want email notifications when turns host.
Once I have your password I’ll send you the ip/port of the server where you can upload your pretender. Once everyone is uploaded I’ll add you to the game turn email notification list (unless you specify otherwise). Then the game starts.
Quickhost will be enabled. The first 24 turns will be set to have a 24 hour autohost – so expect to do at least a turn a day for the first few weeks. After that the timer will increase to 48 hours though it is hoped that players will normally still be able to play every 24 hours, with the occasional missed day. As turns take longer in late game this might increase further. As players get eliminated we can be more flexible with extensions and extended absences, but not in the first couple weeks.
The map will be tweaked to ensure (hopefully) that all players that start on land have at least four land neighbors and all players that start at sea have 3 sea neighbors. All the major seas are connected so that separated sea provinces connect to each other across straits (hence all seas that look like they should be connected are linked). There will be between 12-14 water provinces per water nation. All the larger landmasses are linked across the straits as well. If we do not fill, we will be using a smaller map.
Players who wish to surrender (resign) should simply let me know so we can find a replacement or turn the nation to computer controlled. If you will be unavailable for longer than a few days please let me know. Failing to do you turn twice a in a row without letting us know will get you put on AI. If I think you are missing too many turns (e.g. 3 out of the last 6) I will put you on AI. Once (*ahem* - If) I am eliminated I’ll rely on the remaining players to tell me when something needs done with the game.
General rules to follow in my games can be found here:
http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=d3maars&Number=507308&fpar t=&PHPSESSID=
I recommend you read them if you haven’t already.
House Rules: There are specific endgame related issues that apply to larger Dom3 games that I have come to dread. There will be a simple Big Game Mod (v1.1) that will be used for this game that will tweak a few end-game aspects.
These changes are not up for debate in this thread. If you don’t like these changes – please make another thread somewhere else to complain.
Big Game Mod Changes:
Arcane Nexus will cost 300 Astral Pearls to cast
Clam of Pearls will require a path 2 (instead of 1) in Nature Magic (Water will stay the same). This will increase the cost to forge.
Fever Fetishes will require a path 2 (instead of 1) in Fire Magic (Nature will stay the same). This will increase the cost to forge.
(New in v1.1)Blood Stone will require a path 3 (instead of 2) in Earth Magic (Blood will stay the same). This will increase the cost to forge.
If we get less than 14 people we will not use this Mod.

I would like to play with Pangaea.
btw. i would change the victory condition from have 165 provinces to have 165 provinces and hold them for 3 turns, as later on it is no big problem to get lots of thugs and drop them on undefended provinces. But on the other hand this would mean, that every nation that has over +-140 provinces might be able to win the game in the next turn.

I'm not opposed to this. You need to hold 50% of the provinces for three strait turns. Anyone object?

I made several test with the map and obtained weird results. The starting point for underwater nation should be edited so that they all start in the large body of water, and not in the small lakes.
I even had a test game where Rlyeh didn't have a starting point at all.
I guess some test should be done to ensure land starting point on land will be ok too.

Just my 2 cents.

Deadline for pretenters being sent was always 72 hours (the deadline was in the first post).
We will start Sunday morning/afternoon (approximately 24 hours from this post). The only person I haven't heard from Sieger/Eriu so he will probably be the only person that might miss the start time.

(the new .map file only fixes the sea players start positions).

Jeezum-i hate quiet game threads.
Let me liven it up a bit:
Some races with SC pretenders, who sit in the hall of fame, have decided to blast ahead for an early lead in provinces/income/gems. A bold strategy to be sure. But also tends to make neighbors worry a bit.
Another drawback to blitz type expansion with your pretender is shown by a glance at the Hall of Fame. Two races have already lost their pretenders. Which reminds me of the story about a race between a turtle and a hare......
Evilhomer
January 26th, 2008, 04:42 PM
Yes, pesky fast expanders....
vfb
January 26th, 2008, 08:52 PM
Are their pretenders truly lost? Have their bodies been seen lying face down on the field of battle, carried to the tomb of heros, and interned within? For some, death is just a quick trip home. For others, well, even those that truly die may be called back.
On another note...
We have happened across a trove of nature gems, and would seek to trade some for pearls. If you would trade pearls for nature gems, one-for-one, please PM vfb. Edit: Our trade has been accomplished, so the offer is now closed.

The belligerent ambassador of Bandar appeared before the Lizard King of C'tis this month, to demand that we sell our land to them. Such brazen audacity will not be tolerated in our court! The province you demand is as close to our capitol as it is to yours. C'tis expels the ambassador of Bandar from our lands forthwith.
Since the aggressive demands of your servant violate the spirit of the non-aggression pact that existed between Bandar and C'tis, that pact is now cancelled.
If you would have the province of Ard for your own, then send an army there in three months, when midsummer is upon the lands, and the mutual obligations of our treaty have been discharged.

Sorry.
This has by far been my most embarissing MP game yet, starting with my inincible cyclops dying of a diesease on turn four, and then most of my troops getting wiped out by independants. Using I always practice a nation first But I didn;t do it that much this time. Those ulm infantry just aren't as tough as I was expecting.
Now I have Shinuyama at my door. And with their low resource high strength troops, ulms armor doesn't help much. I was planning to contiue fighting, as I usually do, but in the few times I have been able to try my turn with my busy work schdule, I had conection problems to the Velusions server.
So sorry. Usually I take MP games more seriously then I have this one.

"OoOoOwaaHhh Hah hah screech!" howled the advisor apes as they delivered the latest news. "By Cronos! I know you can speak intelligibly so out with it!" shouted the Titan. "Hoo hoo hoo err sorry, just wanted to let you know that the horsemen are coming, something about the corner they said." "What?!" Rex groaned, "first lizards and now horsemen? By Olympus! Who has been in charge of diplomacy while I slept?"
The monkeys and apes were quick to thrust a lone trembling Bonobo before the Titans angry stare. "Sire we were assigned that duty but since it got in the way of our play, we uhh umm let the Baboons take care of it."
Rex smote his forehead with a fist knowing full well that Baboon diplomacy consisted of showing lots of teeth and saying things like "You give now! Teeth sharp!" and "Hreeehoohoohoo hUUu HuuU.."
"There is one bit of good news sire.." blurted out a Macaque. "Upon hearing that her advisor's had declared an end to our non-aggression pact Persephone instantly dropped dead of fear!"
"Dropped dead of fear?! What game are you playing? It's not the one I am in!" Rex groused. "At least our horde of Oliphants will treat the horsemen the same as they did Man's knights. Damn you Cronos, you promised me Greece! Beaches! The heights of Olympus! Instead, I get monkeys, elephants and these damned fleas!"
Peace loving monkeys! Peace! The stars foretold that this would be Bandar Log' chance to make the hall of victory!

I assume you have the Gorgon, because no one in their right mind would take any other pretender.
I do not favor an awake gorgon. Pangaea's castle troops are tough enough to withstand any rush, so I like a dormant Gorgon, with some air magic. She can be unbeatable with some good buffs.

"Oh Great One! The horsemen have been repulsed with but the loss of a single life!" said the Orangutan Warmaster.
"Excellent news but We could wish for similar tidings from the lizards.." muttered the Titan.
As an added bonus my internet exploded this morning and I am forced to use friends comps till they come to fix it in a couple of days.. Good fun this especially under these circumstances.
In other news.. I think it a bit beyond the pale for 2 of the top 3 to attack at this juncture in the game so I am forced to use all the weapons available to me in order to attempt to survive.
With that in mind I encourage all can and who desire said leaders to be weakened to take action against the following targets.
The capitols of Pangea and C'tis are located at provinces 305 amd 236 respectively. C'tis has a very large army starving in province 187 (delay them and they will all get disease, it only has 30 supply) as well as another in 235. C'tis' pretender is currently located in 201, a PoD with 6 death and no other troops.
For those who think I go too far.. My capitol is located at 268..
All of this is occuring in the nw and west.
Sorry I was unable to get this info out earlier but the net was down!

The aid of C'tis was specifically requested by Man, whose capitol was besieged, unprovoked, by Bandar's traveling circus. There was nothing wrong with Bandar's invasion of Man in itself, just a wee bit of extra-curricular conquest, but we did not wish to witness Man's capitol fall, and then see Bandar's circus trainers training yet more and more elephants and circus apes. Why, Bandar might have even managed to build up an army worthy of their aggressive and belligerent diplomacy!
We are returning all provinces of Man back to their rightful owner when the fight is over.
As for Pan ... Man may have spoken to them too. Of this, we are unaware. But when the conquest of Bandar is finished, and the last monkey barbequed, C'tis would fear to hold all of Bandar's provinces. For others would see what would be our huge tracts of land, and the seed of envy lives in all men's hearts. In order that C'tis may live within our means, we invited our northernly neighbors to share in the spoils of Bandar's lands.

Greetings to the world, from the Lizards of the West.
We regret the rash threats emanating from the Agarthan provinces, and apologize on behalf of its leader.
The Agarthan people have always been despondent and despairing, with their tragic civilization crumbling and in collapse, its best days behind it. This particular Agarthan tribe has suffered much as they attempted to break out into the surface world. They were beset upon by the hands of the dread indy light infantry, archers, and dreadest of all, militiamen!
Now that they have finally conquered these vicious foes and freed themselves from their caves, and emerged into the fresh air above, they have smelled the dew on the grass and seen the beauty of the sky, and the knowledge of what they had been missing all these years has driven them completely insane.
Please do not harm our cold-blooded cousins, for they know not what they speak.
(Except maybe that bit about Eriu, that could be for real. Eriu, you'd better do an inventory of your statues, and see if any have walked off recently.)

3.15 patch is out. I had to upgrade to access my turn in another mp game from the llamaserver. But my present turn is already in and was done with 3.14.
When will the server patch?
As an aside, you may want to put mictlan and machaka on ai. they are holding up the host. Obviously if either player had any interest in playing they would have done their turn by now.

I am in the same situation. My dominions is already patched;

If you upgrade make sure you do not connect to the server after, until Velusion says it has been patched. Otherwise, if memory serves, you may screw something up.

I think Xietor meant DO NOT connect to the server after you have patched, until Velusion has patched the server.

How many times in a row has Mictlan staled?
Xietor
March 6th, 2008, 04:07 PM
he has staled like 4 of the past 5 turns. I like folket, but he obviously is not interested in this game. Sort of a bad experiment to take mictlan with no f9 or s9 bless.

If I've submitted my turn pre-patch, do I need to reconnect with a patched dom3 and redo the turn?
Xietor
March 6th, 2008, 04:39 PM
Since the server has been patched, it cannot hurt anything.
well, the timer has been reset again to 48 hours. That will mean 120 hours for this turn. heh.
Velusion
March 6th, 2008, 05:09 PM
I don't think you will have to redo your turn.
If somethng messes up I can restore to right before I patched.

Thanks for getting everything patched so quick Velusion.

Folket's Mictlan experiment looks like he has turned them into some sort of vast slave-trading empire. Mictlan slaves, not blood slaves!
An interesting idea, but probably not much fun, like Xietor says. I'm not sure why Mictlan didn't just go AI instead of staling. Maybe he was thinking of toughing it out?
Machaka (rasko) seems to have vanished entirely, from all the MP games he is in.

March 6th, 2008, 08:25 PM
I just logged into the server and there is still 48 hours to go to host? Not sure why the server is not counting down?
Is there anyway to just force host? While Evilhomer has not done his turn, he has had over 72 hours, and it is unlikely that anyone needs more than 72 hours to do their turn at this stage.
vfb
March 6th, 2008, 08:33 PM
Somehow the server was on 24 hours instead of 48 this turn. So I asked Velusion to please fix it, since there were about 7 players who had not submitted their turn yet, and the 24 hours was about to expire. The web page said something like 1 day, 6 hours to host, but the game itself said 6 hours.
I think he restarted the server with a 48-hour expiry. You can't really add time to the current turn any other way. If he had restarted with 24-hour expiry to add the extra day, then we'd be back at 24-hour turns when it hosted again.
I have no idea why Oceania has not submitted their orders yet.

EH is a good player. If he had internet access and wanted to send in a turn, it would take him no more than 15 minutes given the small size of his empire.
So he either has no internet access(and he warned us that may happen), or he does not want to send in a turn. EH is pretty good about getting a sub when he is done with a game, so I assume he has no internet access.
EH post on this thread: "I managed to get ahold of an internet connection so I am still playing, I don't know how long I can continue to play though (depends on a few things)."
But i do not think the entire game should be held up for 1 player when he has had 80 hours to submit a turn.

Oh, I hadn't seen this thread, I just did a search on evilhomer now:
http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Number=581730
It looks like he didn't find a sub, and he's not going to be doing his turn.
Edit: And of course, when Velusion patched (thanks Velusion!) he had to restart the server, so it started counting the 48 hours all over again. Everybody should have plenty of time to get 3.15 on their system before the next time it hosts, at least.

Well, I think Oceania is in as good a position as any of the water races. Does anyone know a sub? His research is actually way up there. It would be a shame to see another race go ai, especially since Oceania is in fairly good shape.
I could ask Tyrant, though I am not sure he is fond of me after Alpaca and the Big Game. But he loves water races. I sent Tyrant a tell outlining Oceania's position to gauge his interest.

Have we mentioned that we just cannot heap enough praise upon Agartha? Truly, if we were any other nation, we would surely want to be Agartha. They're just the cat's meow. They're really good at digging things, too.
And yes, Ermor and their sibling nation of Pythium are at peace. Although, just to set the record straight, Machaka attacked Ermor, not the other way around.

/sniff. Why not? I am a nice person? I luv everyone!
Message to whoever is playing Oceania: We have a 3 turn nap, but I did allow EH to own a land province in my area. I know EH from other games and trust him.
He was going to tell his sub that I was taking that land province in my area if EH relinquished control of Oceania. That has occurred, and my army will be in place to take the land province in my area the turn after next.
That is not a violation of my 3 turn nap with EH as I had told him of this fact. If you foolishly consider it a violation of our 3 turn nap then be warned that Pythium can enter the water. But we consider a 3 turn nap in place between us, with the caveat that you owe us a province.
So welcome to the game. If the new player is Tyrant, then send me a pm and we can discuss things in depth. We harbor no grudges from past wars in other games obviously or we would not have sent you the pm to alert you to the open position.
Good Luck Oceania, and may we maintain the peaceful relations that we have enjoyed since turn 1.

I didn't manage to get the internet to work during monday-thursday (couldn't get the wireless to work properly in the apartment my company put me). Since I did my turn with 40+ hours to spare on sunday I figured I would miss exactly 1 turn during these four days (which I can live with). EH, I am near certain a sub(maybe Tyrant) did your last turn since you were mia with no explanation. Read the last couple of pages and all will be somewhat clearer.
After 80 hours had passed, and you had not done a turn, coupled with your attempt to find a sub and statement that you had iffy internet, I honestly thought that what you feared would occur did in fact happen.
And it really was not fair to hold up the game for 5 days waiting on you(though that was not your fault of course). But I hope it all works out for you. I see Tyrant is not the sub, or he most certainly would return control to you if you wanted it. Good luck in getting it sorted out with thadeus.

One day in the pavilion at Karakorum he [Genghis Kahn] asked an officer of the Mongol guard what, in all the world, could bring the greatest happiness.
"The open steppe, a clear day, and a swift horse under you," responded the officer after a little thought, "and a falcon on your wrist to start up hares."
"Nay," responded the Kahn, "to crush your enemies, to see them fall at your feet -- to take their horses and goods and hear the lamentation of their women. That is best."

Agartha proudly announces two more victories!
The God of Mictlan is as dead as the huge Vanheim army that was attacking Agartha's invincible milita. Once again the Vans helplessly glammered to and fro in confusion casting harmless lightning bolts, phantasmal warriors failing phantasmical to hurt the invincible militia just to be cut in halves by stone glaives and raw Agarthan steel.
After this great battle the traitor God of Mictlan cowardly attacked the Agarthan army during the victory party. Poor blue dragon. The battle lasted merely 2 turns.
It's only a matter of time until Vanheim is destroyed and erased from the memories of all living being. Agartha knows no mercy with the sneaky, backstabbing Vans!

The small empire of Pythium, half the size of its neighbors,
has cast GOH as a purely benign gesture to alleviate the suffering of the elderly in our empire.
A glance at the score graphs show most of nations controlled by players own twice the provinces of Pythium. Since we are a peaceful nation of scholars, our borders tend to remain small.
Last turn a genie named Al KHazim entered service to Pythium. We realize that such service is temporary, but we ask as a gesture of goodwill that any nation that seeks to summon the genie have the courtesy of contacting Pythium first. Pythium rewards kindness, and punishes treachery.
Pythium will also report that constr 8 has been reached by at least 3 nations. Pythium was not the 1st, and Pythium does not have the Forge Hammer, the Chalice, the Dark Scepter, the Soulstone, or about 25 other artifacts-but someone does.
This information is a public service to save others from wasted research. Pythium-a name you trust.
Lightning and Wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky. But Helena is your goddess, and she lives in the Earth. Does Vanheim worship a true god of the Earth, or one who comes from the heavens?
Over such matters wars will be fought and kingdoms torn asunder.

EXPLAIN YOURSELF! /threads/images/Graemlins/Lightning.gif Indeed over such matters wars are fought!
And Agartha the Great heard rumors, that other nations than the van scum are in possession of sacred earth gems, mining them out of the heart of mother earth itself. Only vassal states as C'tis, Jotunheim and Eriu have the right to hold up to 15 earth gems!
