I made an exhaustive list of which sound effect id # corresponds to what file in the rawsounds folder and what they sound like, i.e. when you hear them in the game. It's attached to this post, because I don't want to run into the "editing a post ruins the code tags" bug of this forum. It's in the unix text file format. Open it with your web browser if you have trouble viewing the file or get a better editor.

Notes:
Notice that there might be *.sw / *.smp files with the same name, for example #54 is whip.smp while #87 is whip.sw.
Any sound id number not in the list sounds like club.smp (1)
The items marked with (???) are ones where I don't recognize what weapon/spell in the game uses it. Additions welcome.
The two items marked "MISSING SOUND FILE" reference files which are not present in the shipped/patched version of the game. These are free sound slots. Somebody might want to put his own sound files into there for limited mod sounds. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

JK wrote a post about the sound format these sounds use (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Number=237236), I think the only difference from Dom2 to Dom3 is that now the sounds are in 6kHz instead of 22kHz (mono).
Endoperez has prepared a non-exhaustive pack of WAV samples (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Number=551588) of the sound effects for download.

Just want to add that sound ID 25 (growl) makes an excellent explosion/cannon/gunpowder stand-in. I'm using it in the next version of ogre kingdoms for the deathbelcher 'cannons'.

If anyone else spots sounds that might be really useful as stand-ins, let us know :]

Ich, if you don't mind, I am SO going to steal this for the next version of the DB!

With proper crediting, of course. But it'd be a nontrivial addition in terms of weapon modding and since everything needed for that except flysprite list and the sound effect list is already in.

Great work lch!

For some reason, I'm certain that the sirrobin.smp is for when a commander routs from assassination.

"Brave sir Robin ran away, bravely ran away away!"

Sure, go ahead. The DB would be the best place for that list.

You know what, I had a look at the CoE game and the file is in there and it's indeed the Monthy Python thing (about 4kbps). Then there's a mutter.smp which I could swear has somebody muttering "das würd ja sonst nicht gehn" / "das würd's ja sonst nicht geben" (about 6 kbps), but maybe I am interpreting too much of German into something that's actually Swedish?
