View Full Version : A couple questions, SE: V & IV

I just came back to SE from a multi-year hiatus, and grabbed a copy of SE:V.

First thing I've noticed, and I just want to confirm - does Advanced Storage Techniques in SE:V no longer add facility spaces? If so, not really worthwhile any more.

And secondly, though may need Geo or someone for this - I've found some old SE:IV turn files from PBW games I played before, but for the life of me, I cannot remember/figure out my passwords. Is there any way to reset the passwords or otherwise access these games? I'd really like to take a look at some of my empire setups and games from before, as a bit of a refresher.

Glad to see SE:V looking stable, though the infinite tech tree is taking some getting used to http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

AST adds facility space; are you using the latest patch? Note that it is only +10% facility space now, rather than +25%. Cargo space is still increased by 25% though.

You can get away from stock's poorly thought out tech tree with the Balance Mod (http://www.captainkwok.net/balancemod.php). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Actually, I have started using the Balance mod, which has definitely helped in that regard. Still trying to remember and figure out all the tech dependancies again.

Ahh, I just checked. When I ran my AST test, I was in Balance mod, which appears to -not- add facility space, whereas stock does. Thanks.

If you knew the game master password you could reset the empire password. Short of that there's really no way to get the empire password.

Thanks. I guess I'll just have to keep plugging at it and see if I can figure it out.

And from there - another question: How are maintainance reductions calculated? From my own testing, it doesn't appear to be strictly multiplicative, and is obviously not additive.

Can get these reductions from achievements, population modifiers, and crystalline tech, but the numbers just aren't working for me.

There are a couple of categories, and it adds within them before multiplying the categories together.

Racial modifiers add with the base amount (stock 25%), for example.

That multiplies with the ability amount on ships.

A typical mod trick is to set the base amount to 100%, so that +5% to maintenance reduction means 5% less maintenance, not 20% less maintenace.

Then all the hulls are given a -75% maintenance, so that you get the same maintenance as stock without racial tweaks (25%). +5 maint redux then results in 23.75% maintenance on your ships.

The password for all races is still master, same as the master password.

Not in (most) PBW games, however.
