View Full Version : Shark Attack now useless?

I have been fighting Oceania recently, and we both have Shark Attack. The battles have been nasty. But in our last battle where we both cast Shark Attack, lo and behold, a total of two sharks showed up, the entire battle.
I understand the the spell has been nerfed with the last patch. But please!! The spell is now useless.

Yup. One of the best spells in the game is now a gem waster you hope your water mages don't cast.

Progress page doesn't list any changes, I don't remember any changes to the shark spells, and in my test both School of Sharks and Shark Attack work just fine. I got at least ten sharks in the few turns it took for the Ichtyids to kill my pretender.

Sharks of Shark Attack only come if there's blood in the water. What kind of armies did you have? What kind of critters died? HOW did they died? I don't know if e.g. spells that don't affect mindless units are considered "bloodless" or something.

it worked fine in 3.15 against me, but I've heard it acts oddly when both sides in a battle cast it...as if it cancels itself out.

No changes to the spell that I'm aware of.
Only to Dance of the Morrigans. It has similar mechanics, but works on land instead.

Micah: Sounds strange.

Since sharks only follow the blood, if that was a battle between undeads, should this spell just be invaild?

make sense. Why would the sharks be interested in some bones?

Thats what I get for believing reports instead of confirming it myself.

Doh!

Oh, there was plenty of bloods. Hundreds of crabs, asp turtles, shark knights etc. were killed. I believe what we must have seen was the strange "cancel each other out" effect when both sides cast the spell.

Is this an urban myth or is it for real?

Well, I had it cast against me in Rand in 3.15 and I'd say the spell was absurdly overpowered on its own, so I'm guessing there's some truth to the cancellation story. I was actually intending to bring the spell to the devs' attention due to how many units appear when it is cast. Sadly the aegis-bearing SC I had in the battle was killed so I don't have a hall of fame kill total from one battle, but I'd say there were well over 100 sharks from a single casting...pretty much an impossibly large number of units to deal with for a 3 gem spell any water mage with a water bracelet can cast.

It is, or perhaps was, a well-known underwater exploit, although I don't think it was ever thought of as a cheat. Just and absurdly powerful spell that you have to beeline for if you want to win underwater.

Kristoffer had said yesterday in another post that the max number of sharks per turn had been lowered at some point... that's what made me think the spell had been nerfed.

Most of the spells that cost gems are pretty powerful, so I hope it has been kept fairly useful.

I said that?

I think i meant that each turn the random dice generating sharks is decreased, so less sharks arrive each turn.

Is that to say that the number of sharks appearing per turn decreases with time?

Yep

Maybe that would be an easy fix for Mists of Deception,
