View Full Version : Ver 1.74 patch with Balance Mod?

I'm about to start a new game using the balance mod on the pbw web site.

Just noticed that http://www.malfador.com/ announced patch 1.74. 1.74 does not yet appear on PBW and I'm not sure when it will. Any idea? Also, I'm not sure whether it will be compatible with Balance Mod v1.14a.

Is it safe to apply the 1.74 patch or should we stick with 1.71?

Kwok has just released a patch for Balance Mod v1.14b to go with SEV v1.74.

I never expect patches and mods to come online at PBW in less than two weeks, but Geo routinely surprises me by getting them up sooner than that.

Thanks. We'll hold off until we see it appear on PBW. As a general rule, do patches and Balance Mod updates go smoothly, or would be be wise to wait a few weeks to see how they fare?

Assuming the SE5 patches don't introduce bugs, it's usually quite fine.

What I'd like to see is some more shipsets/races adapted to the Balance mod. Has anyone written an new AI compatible with the Balance Mod for any 3rd party shipsets?

how do i go about making a pre-made empire like a would in se4

how can i get a pre-made empire to load up?????

I think you can use Unnamed stock AI's for for 3rd party race as well. It just requires to copy 2 files from unnamed stock race that is closest to the 3rd party race (in unique tech for example) and rename them to fit the name of the 3rd party race. It works for me, for example I used Jraenar AI files for Klingons. However, I didn't try this in Balance mod yet.

If you mean designing your own empire, it's the same as in SEIV: create the empire and save it to a file, then load it when you create the game. The sticking point in SEV is that the racial points, tech costs, and starting tech points spent all have to be less than or equal to the settings for the game you're trying to use it in.

If you mean making sure a particular race is in the game, such as the stock Terrans, you need to download this:

It's a collection of .emp files for each of the stock races that people have already created, to save others the trouble.
