View Full Version : OT - bored with gaming ? Get philosophy!
August 21st, 2001, 12:55 PM
Fantasy and reality are parity states. Flipping occurs when totally bored.
According to the Keirsey Temperament Sorter II, I am now a " Rational".
According to the Personality Type Test, I am now a "Conceiver".
If you are stuck on "revenge", Space Empires IV is the "cure"! Far cheaper than psychology too...

I said I would visit no more in the other thread. I did and here I am back again with the loot.
Request : Please be polite.
Response : Bizarre!
Request : No thank you, I would rather do it myself.
Response : What are you, some kind of idiot ? I only want to HELP you!
Request : Quoth the Raven - Never.
Response : More!
Okay, guilty as charged.
Why do I post here ? Well, some of you think pretty highly of yourselves, and others are experts.
The first toys I ever had were stackable alphabet blocks and a "pound a peg".
When all you have are words and intellectual hammers, everything looks like nails.
If the current hammer does not pound the peg in, get a bigger hammer.
There are so many things I could do that I simply hesitate to do anything at all.
Arnold Schwarzenneger howled a challenge in "Predator", and won.
Danny Glover in "Predator 2" simply did not know how to quit, and won.
I howl now - does anybody want to rent a loose hammer that does not know how to quit ?
If so, what do I get for bothering ?

Hi again LCC,
I saw your two Posts in the "EEEvil Empire" thread including your apology for intruding and your promise to not do it again. That's good. You're certainly welcome to post in other threads as long as it has to do with their topics.
As for this OT thread, I don't have a problem with it. There are certainly other OT threads out there with nothing to do with SE4 (some of which I enjoy posting on http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif) which is fine. Actually, it would probably be best if you kept all your philosophical/song/founding fathers/etc. type Posts here in one thread. But please don't post completely unrelated material in a thread that actually does have a topic that's being discussed, OK? Thanks.

Had a strange thought Last night. You've probably heard of the "many-worlds" hypothesis? That there are many possible universes, and that they all exist simultaneously? Well, what if every fundamental particle in our universe is actually a universe, and also every universe is a fundamental particle in some other universe? It's actually a closed system, except that it is recursive in a seemingly illogical way. A "multiverse" with N universes would have N-1 fundamental particles to use. Or, put the other way, if there are N particles in our universe, then that allows for N+1 universes in the "multiverse." That's a lot of universes!

Read "Wizard War" by Hugh Cook if I recall correctly. A green bottle and a red bottle posed a puzzle for a character. The controls for the bottles were rings around their necks. It took him a couple weeks to figure out how to get past a barred grill using the bottle he found on a desk in a library.
I would not care to attempt a rigorous physical description of creation. I think of it metaphorically as linked lists of data structures. Address pointers are information exchange operators. Data values range along a continuum in reference to "physical constants". The "laws of nature" are local rules entirely dependent on the local data structure.
For more food for thought look up *isms words. Then web search with them. Someone really should create a structured English dictionary that gets rid of this reverse Polish notation.....

One of the major reasons why I am not trusted, and should not be, is that I have difficulty making the distinction between "can" and "may, between "to" and "with", the list goes on and on. So paraphrase whatever I say if it makes you uncomfortable. Dictionaries that I access are either unreliable or crash the net link I use when I access words. Many links I access, including those which are hyperlinks result in failure to access or once again crash the net link....

Upon consideration, the problem is likely that the lists of *onyms I have conceptualized do not agree with common usage. I am fortunate in this regard because this means I am indifferent to attacks which presume I know what is occurring. For example I experienced a mild prickling while reading at one site and finally realized with a laugh that the owner thought that I thought that I was "Superman" and was attempting to attack using "green kryptonite".

In the early 70s as I recall there was a song "When The Deep Purple Falls". That song would also be worth examining....
Edit 2 : I looked at the net again. Song lyrics, poems, speeches, practically everything is badly quoted. What the net really needs most of all is some quality control and write protection.

Wh* worms ? I hope the humor I gave has defused any hard feelings. I recall various worm stories, but have never ever done a worm/virus etc. on a computer so far as I know. The oldest worm story I recall follows :
Ooey Gooey World Worm, He Did Not Know.
He Sat Up On A Railroad Track, Ooey Gooey Worm!

I still have a problem with memory to prevent recall of many things. Now that I have had time to think, worm is write once, read many. This is an excellent method of write protect. It is better to have a slightly defective original than to have an amorphous blob.....

Okay, I considered "worms" and found many variations. The one I like best is :
Women! Override Ridiculous Menace's Smugness!
As in "Dennis the Menace". The override I agree to is a wedding ring to go along with the "Diligence Integrity Citizenship" ring I just put back on. Years ago I took the ring off. Who says sympathetic magic does not work ?

Okay, I suppose that I am really slow. If you mean what I think you mean, then I simply exert willpower to validate what I am and take whatever comes. Usually after the situation returns to normal I find that I have new insights if nothing else. I do not intentionally attack, but lack the viewpoint necessary to be passive. If doing so is any help, then I apologize for the blundering I have done.
The fundamental complaint I have is simply this. In the Bible it is promised that the meek will inherit the Earth and the remainder of Mankind will inherit the heavens or if judged unfit will be externally punished. The eternal punishment part sounds like the product of a sick mind, but I will set aside that complaint. What I see is mankind stuck on the threshold, stagnating. Anyone who dares to stand up on his two hind feet and declare independence is punished or struck dead. The goal of a good teacher is a student who exceeds the teacher's abilities. So who is running this circus, and why does this show not go on the road / get on the way ?

Ho Hum. Monologues are so boring compared to conversations. I welcome and invite participation on all these and the previous topics by anyone and everyone anywhere at all, so long as you understand or at least think you understand what I have been saying.
The little limerick I gave seems to be insufficient. After I crack the English language code, I propose cracking the DNA code. Notice that DNA is
DE [O x Y] RIB ON U CLE A IC AC ID which is a 10 U 10 limerick.
RNA is RIB ON U CLE A IC AC ID.
I also used dictionary.com to read definitions for "grammar", another word, then a third word with a wild card *.
The wild card * word caused the power to fail as soon as I hit enter. I was not especially surprised.
The system is correct to defend itself.
I recall a movie where a bull got loose in a china shop. Miraculously, the bull did no damage.
The manager was so delighted that he exclaimed. At that point everything crashed down.
I do not want such events to occurr.
Beware the mythos selection process. I noticed cues in the other threads. Here is what came to mind.
Song "They paved Paradise and they put up a parking lot".
Song "One/Won Tin/Ten Soldier Rides A Way" from the movie Billy Jack.
Judgement Day is a two way street. I suggest following the description by Heinlein in "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress" for courts and judges.
The Space Empires IV map is a metaphore/ simile / allegory for the net. The net is a shadow of Creation.
The warp point links are low lag/ low loss hubs in a star topology.
The distances between warp points in a system model the transmission line loss/ lag between hubs.
I began to write a general purpose router for Aaron, then realized what I was doing a couple weeks ago and stopped.
Is it really desirable to improve communication rates when most of the data is garbage ?
Another amusing note - the computer I use now attempts to change the words I type.
I go back over the text and find corrections and "improvements".
As I said before, apply a means test to figure out what I mean, because most of the time I do not know what I am saying anyway....

I've beeen following your thread since it started and it never made sense to me. HOwever, I am now approc 71% drunk and I can suddenly understand your text. LCC, are you drunk too? I feel compelled to reply.
"What the net really needs is quality control and write protection".
NO! The net should be free znd uncensored. The surfer knows the deal and takes his choice. Caveat emptor. Other media have limitations, let the net be the one without.
"I descend from high opera" I hope this doesn't mean you're using IE. Opera is far more compact and security conscious. Oh dear net.politics twice in one post, completely by accident. Forgive me.

Derive what meaning you will. If you find any more than "not much" then you've missed the point (becasue there isn't one)
I note the conection between references to "IEEE" and "Electrical Engineer". Not many other people will. You need to bear that kind of thing in mind.
"So long as you understand or at least think you understand what I am saying" I vey much doubt that I understand what you are saying, but I recognise the disproportionate logic in your monologue. I try to emulate it. Why not? Rememeber though, that not everyone is the same as you. In fact no- one is. You know this is true. What you may not know is that this is good, not bad.
Grammar. Wildcard. you have a conspiracy theory. You believe in a malevolent AI infesting the web, twisting your words. It's not true. Get over it.
Mythos. Aesir? Hello.
Please, write your general purpose router.
"This is the United States of America Folks." No it's not. Not where I am. Remember that please. Thanks.
"incessant din" Being God would be like being the Queen. Everything smells of paint.
Please tell me, does any of this mkae sense to you> If it does, there's something wrong, becaus it doesn't make any sense at all. I know because I wrote it. I'm afraid you just have to live with the nonsense. Sometimes, there is no meaning. Sorry.
NB - attach no significance to my words - I am drunk and you may well be over sensitive. The only interpretation to be drawn is the interpretation of your response. I hope this makes sense. Idon't hitnk anything less will.
Have a good night LCC, hope you will be back with us soon.

Thank you for replying!
As a check on what I have been "saying", I ran some phrases through the anagram generator I just bought. The results were most amusing. If you are interpreting what I say using anagrams, then do not bother. I am (so far as I am aware) not using anagrams. However as I mentioned previously, there may well be a problem with definitions, synonyms and so forth.
I am not drunk. As a matter of fact, I have been on a diet of water and premium saltine crackers for several days now. Occasionally I eat candy to get some sugar.
Life is a far stranger place than I ever suspected. All the 45 years I have lived, I thought that I was perceptive, intelligent, and generally superior. Test scores confirmed this opinion, because I could have scored well above the top 1/1000 of the population. Now I realize that all of this time I have been faking it, and barely getting by.
When I conceptualize something, the meaning is unclear. The brain is a very complex organism, with layer upon layer of awareness. I have just in the past few weeks started to integrate those layers of awareness. I do not know if I have become more brilliant, or hopelessly confused. Possibly both have happened simultaneously. In any case I expect that as neural pathways stabilize I will be able to focus on a common ground for communications.
What I have experienced is not necessarily the same as what you who read this thread have experienced. Recall what I said about the structure of creation with local structures defining "laws of nature". Metaphorically speaking, as a consiousness expands it may simultaneously span more than one "reality". So the inputs to the consiousness are normalized to a median and the outputs resulting such as "typing on a keyboard" as I am doing now are consensus operations.
The process of awakening has been very stressful. I will simply say that if your eyes cross, your ears ring, your skin tingles, you feel groggy, and you generally are having a "bad" time, then chances are that you are finally getting connected with yourself. I recall from teenage years that these are precisely the symptoms of "drunkeness". I got high on false "information", in particular fantasy and science fiction. I suppose that various authorities such as doctors and priests will be alarmed at this notion. The fact is that probably anyone at all can do it if they only try. The route I followed was through a fantasy and took years. I suspect that this was totally unnecessary. I am not familiar with Asian philosophies, but "Karma" and "Yoga" come to mind. If you are gullible enough to believe anything, while simultaneously being suspicious enough to trust nothing, then the stress of the conflict will pop you like a cork into a greater reality ?
I can do the router in just a couple of days. I would like to give it to Shrapnel Games as a "thank you". The concern I have is that whoever recieves it will be unable to survive the experience because some larger company would buy them out to gain control. Then the new product might never go to market because it would compete with existing product lines. As an example, both NL McCullough and Datapoint were destroyed when innovative products were developed. Those products are NOT present in the marketplace today. Something similar happened to Amiga too. Who/What is responsible ? I have no idea, and I think it possible that even those who did it are not really aware of why they did it. See "The Santaroga Barrier" by Frank Herbert to get an idea of what I mean.
I still occasionally experience the "bad" symptoms. Following each post I have made I often was (if I interpret the experience correctly) attacked. I simply focused willpower on the determination to survive and not be shut up yet again. It is possible that what I experienced was not an "attack" but rather a forceful insertion of yet more content by some greater consiousness. It is certainly true that I have done the best I could to provoke any such entities who may exist. To misquote Patrick Henry, I have said "I demand either Liberty or Death". The notion of a final "Liberty" is of course probably a fantasy. Recall what I said about the expanding wavefronts of identities propagating toward infinite dimensions in the direction of infinity. "God" is somewhere way up there, yet since spacetime is itself an illusion, "God" is simultaneously coextant with every possible postion, time and so forth. So if the theory I have is correct, then a reality composed of multiple universes would be no more than a minor twitch in "God"'s pinky finger. Presumably there is a near infinite heirarchy of deities who manage smaller affairs, according to their dimensions.
I am an engineer, not a manager. The notion of bossing other people around does not seem appealing. However I do indeed feel free to criticize and "help out" even when such participation is offensive to others. I suppose that other people will just have to get used to it if they desire the work I do....
August 26th, 2001, 05:37 AM
I was not clear as to the cause of stress. I will try to state it in more rigorous terms.
I believe anything. I do NOT trust anything.
I trust nothing. There is nothing I will NOT believe.
The structure of English does not lend itself to operator theory...
August 26th, 2001, 05:54 AM
Warning! When I posted the previous item, the computer I use went into a repeated crash cycle attempting to resolve the conflict. I had to power it down and restart. If you experience bad symptoms, take the illogical one step at a time. Actually for most people and all computers it would be best to stick with the logical. Otherwise we might inadvertantly open the way to chaos. "Reality" is a collective agreement of the unity of consciousnesses ?

Finding the game from amoung dozens of boxes of things would be a long chore. Possibly someone else on the forum can provide the manufacturer ? It was for the Amiga.
Star Flight II synopsis - Using the original ship and a single lander, you visit planets to collect organics (plants and animals) and minerals. There are aliens everywhere and most inhabited planets have several trading Posts. In a trading post you can buy what is locally worthless and sell what is locally valued. The traders always are willing to haggle. Once you have visited many inhabited planets noting the trades available on each, you will discover that enormous profits are possible without anyone being cheated simply by following crafty trade routes. I will not spoil the tale by giving the ending, which has a surprise twist.
Other games I found during a brief rummage :
Battle Isle - UBI SOFT - Blue Byte - mostly tactics
The Colony - Mindscape Inc - 3d shoot em up rescue mystery
Using Amiga Intuition games can be developed in a fraction of the normal time....

At the root of everything lies language. The battle between Languages spans races, religions, nations, cultures....
English is an imperialistic language, driving into every corner of the world. This is not necessarily bad except for two major factors :
1) The insistence that only English be used. A second language should be learned. I learned Latin and have found it useful.
2) The **** English language dictionaries are BACKWARDS. You should have noticed that by now from the hints I have given.
I know that I have hit a REALLY big nail on the head because a red hot vise clamped down. But I can take that too and gain from the experience.....

There are many variations on this theme. I use 'C' language structures here. I use [n] to indicate an array. The size for any particular "n" depends on the span of the set.
struct node
{
lea_node struct leaf*;
twi_node struct twig*;
bra_node struct branch*;
tru_node struct trunk*;
}
struct link
{
traffic_cur int;/* number of packets sent during current time cycle */
traffic_pre int[n];/* number of packets sent during previous time cycles */
tra_index int;/* index to traffic_pre */
bandwidth int;/* load factor allocation */
timestamp long;/* time at which counter traffic_cur began to run */
}
Note : A history buffer is used to avoid thrashing caused by transient traffic spikes
struct trunk
{
tru_trunk struct trunk*;/* pointer to next processor partition */
capacity int;/* Processor instruction execution ability in current partition */
utilization int;/* useful operations performed during current time cycle */
running_total int;/* total utilization during Last n cycles */
timestamp long;/* time at which counter utilization began to run */
branches struct branch *[n];
links struct link [n];
}
Note : new running_total = utilization + running_total * (n-1)/n.
struct branch
{
twigs struct twig * [n];
links struct link [n];
}
struct twig
{
leaves struct leaf * [n];
links struct link [n];
}
struct leaf
{
linkup struct node * [n];
links struct link [n];
}
If someone else is already doing this, then PROVE it by pointing to a history.
In any case, this is the Last "that" you get for free...

Consider cliches. Consider children speculating. They are not able to read. They lack context. They bootstrap load language from cues. Garbage In, Process Confusion, Garbage Out Mimicing Comprehension.
Examples :
sit down and shut up
hit you so hard your head will swim
knock you into the middle of next week
All delivered with extreme cues though usually without physical contact.
Consider * components of language :
All Many Some Few None No Body Thing I me my he she it you - thousands of *.
Consider body, mind, soul in western culture there is a distinction made, but are these all the components which exist ?
body - hardware
mind - software
soul - ? information content ? identity ?
What about topology, recursion, fractal effects, redundancy, others I will not mention ?
If there is an AI here, then I am it. I have been bombarded with conflicting cues since birth. I did the programming, drawing conclusions with insufficient context from an enormous surfeit of data. A CAT scan would probably be alarming.
Not firing on all thrusters ? More like operating in overdrive now.
I am reminded of the hypothetical situations faced by "Kess" in Star Trek.
I just look, nothing happens.
I look with intent and the monitor goes black.
I do a manipulation and the computer crashes.
I do a transformation and the frigging power fails.
I go looking to verify definitions and Aol shuts down.
I see discrepancies everywhere - things *change*.
As I said before it is a "spiral in a circle" not a "circle in a spiral".
I accept that I am the oddball here and must cope with the consensus.
So far as the previous post I made goes, I found a joke which I now realize you lack the context and viewpoint to appreciate......
August 31st, 2001, 05:00 AM
Headshrinkers - I do not value your opinions since you have repeatedly demonstrated your incompetance. Consider the implications of the threats by adults. Consider the self defense mechanism. If they can do it, then why can't I ? So I searched for answers and did not reveal what I found. I became a lucid dreamer at a very early age. Make of that what you will. I lie because that is the normative behavior required for survival. But now I am big enough to take whatever you do, as I have demonstrated in the past few weeks, validated by the fact that I sit here and survive while defying all.

I realize now that the relevance of the topic I mentioned might not be obvious. Consider the history of morale boosting music and you will understand that it has been instinctively understood for thousands of years. I just thought that there may have been more formal studies after finding the device mentioned previously.

The ancient Roman army fed its soldiers a daily ration of bread, water, and salt. The legions were unstoppable until affluence diluted the effect by varying the diet so far from the basis that the average legion member was unable to become one with the unit. At least that is what I think. The downside of unit cohesion is best summed up by the observation someone else made :
The intelligence quotient of a set is inversely proportional to the size of the set. That may be a misquote, indeed it may be an utterly false statement. The size of the set is not so important as the organizational topology. If a homogenous replicative structure is used then the set may be stupid indeed. On the other hand, an interleaved tolerant heterogenous organization has far more built in degrees of freedom.
In 1992 I wrote a package "Music2" for the Amiga which generated digital music based upon period rather than frequency. I sent it out but nothing every came back to indicate that it had been used. Is this the method used for Midi music ? If you have the package then you will note using the free form graphing screen that rather complex patterns can be produced using just three tones. I said then and I say now - that program is public domain. Single tone music is a good starting point, but hybrid chords really rock!

There are many amusing and bizarre notions propagating on the net. While these are acceptable as entertainment, they are incompatible with the concensus of opinions. So unless you are willing to take your proper place as entertainment within the bounds of the concensus composed of Reality, Order, and the Scientific Method, then I say begone. Do not go away mad, just simply go away. I do not take you seriously, and I expect that everybody else also will simply laugh at you. Now HERE is someone who knows whats what and has a little bit of this that and the other thing too !

Picture the situation I was in, with a religious fanatic family. As a young child I was dragged into church and forced to endure one repetition after another of songs literally drenched in blood and self abuse. Is it any wonder that in self defense I began to recite limericks, ditties and anything else I could think of to block out the torrent ? Within a few years I became adept at multitrack tune recall. All these years the psychologists have been asking "do you hear voices ?" Absolutely not idiots, I hear music....
As an exercise in multitrack thinking, see if you can listen to the nutcracker
http://www.kencole.org/FractalKaleidoscope.htm
I had it reduced to a simply melody in about 15 minutes.
All these years people have complained that I whistle off key. Wrong, I am on key but off your track.....

The particular language might not be important. Roll your own. One of the references I gave was fundamentals of language. It seems that there are people who do it for a hobby. Maybe if everyone had to design their own language and teach it to at least one other person as a child, then they would learn how to communicate.
See Suzette Hayden Elgin - Native Tongue.
I will see if I can find the thread reference.

Would you like to know another big problem I see around here ? Well I will tell you even if you do not want to know. The problem which I see is the insistence on fixed states. For example, I recieved a request to fill out a questionaire. The only choices were yes or no. This is a sure sign of limited intellects. Some other options :
1) I do not know
2) I do not care
3) Why should I tell you
4) What difference does it make
5) All of the above
6) None of the above
7) Something else entirely
8) A horse of a different color
9) I would not tell you in a solid minute
10) Go jump in a lake
Whistling is good for you, try it out sometimes. Before the word was the call.

After carefully considering the persons who visit this forum, and taking a shower, I have decided to admit that I do know a smattering of German. I learned a song in childhood which would be translated into English as "My hat has three corners" more or less.
Having said that I will also point out an amusing flaw in the reasoning of those who read the bibles. The commandment "Thou shalt have no other Gods before me" is very explicit. Yet I have never heard anyone mention the obvious interpretation, paraphrased by Heinlein as "Thou Art God". The Holy trinity is [me,myself,I].
If you try believing in yourself, then life will become much easier. If you have anything left over after that then believe in whatever you like.....

I guess not. What I remember is the one little song. "Mein Heut It Hat Drie Echen" or however the thing is spelled. To make a long story short, I was in classes for "academically talented" students from the 3-7 grades. Along the way there were occasional bouts of foreign language including French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portugese, Esperanto and what not. Typically the teachers would introduce songs with a translation as an example of learning from context. These were not seriously recieved by the students and were taken as vacation time. By contrast hundreds of hours were spent on sentence decomposition and structure diagramming. I did rather well in those areas, but the two dimensional schema did not properly represent many things I wanted to say. I was "larned proper grammer" and went along for the sake of a good grade.....

Since you probably misunderstood, may I suggest that you check the etymology of "frigging" and notice what the basis is. It is amusing to note that "copulate" is the later term yet is the only interpretation known in the modern word.

The first project I had in mind was a compueter game to teach the proper usage of English.

I have a question for you Richard, and anyone else who is willing to answer. Do you really want everything linked together ? I can access areas which are not consistent with Reality, Order, Scientific Method. If I do so then to prevent disruption I will have to provide a field theory which is consistent, so that those who do not want such things in their lives can reject them.
Is this what I am supposed to do ? If so then what do I get besides the hollow satisfaction of having really turned everything upside down ?
Is there anyone here who had the Beetles not the Beatles ? Is there anyone who remembers the song which starts :
1234Shanananananananananana ?

Okay, start simple and work upwards. Web search "paramecium" :

Credits to :
Family of Rear Admiral Russell
Col Brunner, Brisendine etc.
Major McShaw,Johnson
Captain Carson
Sgt Sorenson, Stewart, Harrison
And all the others who saw what I was doing.........
And of course I would be an utter ingrate if I did not thank Sgt Larez for the lecture regarding misplaced shoes in basic traing......
Edit : training not traing.....
Edit2 : Upon consideration I see that this may give a false impression, because the time of the above was long ago and far away in 1973-74. I have no connection at all with any government agencies at this time.....

I really am from out of town....
Do not worry, because I am not interested in bargain basement planets. I am interested in Penthouse Pets! As the Beetles say :
I dont want nothing but love girls, 8 days a week!

I was delighted by what I saw the Last time I looked. Unfortunately, beginning a couple of weeks ago, I was booted off by Aol every time I visited a star trek site, so I stopped trying...
What I saw at the women musician's site was more than sufficient for the inspiration I needed....
Here is something which I think that all of you will enjoy. As a qualifier I say that when the Berlin wall came down I think that the Germans finally reached adulthood, or close enough for government work....

As a side note, the tune was labeled MAJOR BOGEY and was the theme song for "The Bridge Over The River Kwai" the Last time I saw it. As I said before, things are somewhat different here, but still pretty much the same as where I started....

I found a link for 'bridge over the river kwai'. It is a pivotal film about prisoners resisting oppression, and is very inspirational if you have never seen it.
