I need to know how to set-up and run an online game for SE4. What all I need and what I need to do.

The guy who was running our game was suddenly sent off to Europe on an extended TDY, and we never had a chance to find out what to do or anything.

Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

By "online" you mean TCP/IP rather than PBW?

PBW never runs off to Europe http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

If you know which players were in which slots (first, second, third) we can convert it over to a nice automagic PBW game.

I believe so. We were playing LIVE against one another, but now Scott is gone & out of touch, and never explained how he set that up.

Regrettably, the only one who actually knew much about the works was Scott, and Uncle Sam needed his language skills suddenly overseas!!!

I think you just need to know the list of empires as it's displayed by someone who has a view of all empires, and then which players command the first nation listed, etc.

Do I need any kind of program to "Host" (?) a game, or anything in particular in setting it up somewhere?

Just to make sure we all understand what you need correctly, what was your end of the original process like? Go through it step by step, please.

There are multiple ways to set up multiplayer games, and not all of them work with PBW.

That's part of the problem. Generally, when the group of us decided to play a game, Scott dropped by and set it up, then eventually went home to log in himself.

Other than that, I really don't have a clue what or how he did things.

I need to learn for myself, so maybe I can Host/Run/? a game, since I know at least that short of dying I'm not going anywhere else for the time being. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Even if you're not planning to use PBW (http://seiv.pbw.cc) to continue the game, you might find it helpful to read the PBW FAQ; it covers a lot of what you need to know about hosting a game.

Section 1.14 in particular discusses converting a PBEM game to PBW. I've never played a TCP/IP game, so I don't know what issues are involved there.
