Got so wrapped up in talking about the battle that I nearly forgot to extend the turn for Calahan. My apologies. Turn extended 48 hours.

Realized I won't be around if Ashdod needs more time. So I delayed the turn by 12 hours. It shouldn't matter if he submitts when he orginally planned to.

This game seems to be plagued with problems. As far as I can tell, Calahan never returned from his trip. I surely hope nothing has happened to him. Considering the state of war, I am not willing to let Ashdod stale again.

If I can't reach Calahan in a reasonable amount of time then I will have to find someone to sub in, even if only for a short while.

I'd post it now. From my experience it can take a good while to find a sub and the fewer stale turns the better for everyone, especially considering we're in the middle of a war at the moment.

I'm pretty sure that you jumped the gun by a turn there, Hoo. No big problem, I accidentally did the same earlier.....

Did we let Calahan stale again? We should actually suspend the game until at least a sub is found. Hope he's okay. 8 \

Hi Ferrosol, I'd just like to say that I will make your unruly inbred gods forsaken pack of cannibalistic giants rue the day you set foot into Man's lands (that sounds funny), and would like to know if you have a preference on how best to deface your god's images? I was thinking amusing caricatures or perhaps an overly large nose and moustache attached to a set of glasses or some such thing.

Heh. I broke the NAP with Ashdod and he attacked me the previous turn. You broke the NAP with me the turn after that so I figured it was 3 turns given that Ashdod hit me. Oh well. It was very painful for you losing 2 piddly provinces.

Looks like Vanheim just whooped Bandar Log

Like I said, not a big deal, but still, worth mentioning. I just remember clearly stating in my message to you that the first turn of notice was 34, final turn of notice was 36, and hostilities may commence on 37. ;) Unfortunately, it didn't save it for me, but I am quite positive.

Anyway, I was going to mention that the nature of the attacks seems to have only given me more of an actual advantage tactically, in being the counter-attacker. ;) But, it'll be fine.

Don't be sour just because I do firmly believe that Abysia exists to be consumed by Caelum whenever possible. <3

Interesting. I sent the request to the server to have the turn extended by 24 hours. I'm sure both Jazzepi and I both figured the server would grant the request and so we both slept easy last night.

I suppose there isn't much we can do about it now. I am however in a position to back off my attacks against Ry'leh. Hopefully that will help compensate for some lost opertunities.

The one with the elephants involved, I think most of my guys were trampled to death (maybe 40 out of 60) and still the rest kept their morale high and managed to win the battle. I considered that a lucky draw myself.

Heh yeah, the assassin... multiplayer is a different ballgame in this respect too it seems! The AI isn't as keen as humans on keeping an eye on scouts and assasins. This is my first MP game so it's trial and error for me :)

I have no idea. I tried to submit a 2h file last night and the server stalled. I didn't receive confirmation for quite a while. Once I did I got 19 of them in a row.

JimMorrison
November 13th, 2008, 01:42 PM
Well I do believe it is a complex equation, where it can often be shown (it's quantum, don'tcha know) that -

Living + Learning > Learning + Dying > Dying + Learning > Learning + Living

As you may guess, faster learning is represented by a "greater" result. The irony being, that most people would consider "Learning + Living" to be preferred result, as the Learning precedes -and- precludes the brush with death, however it is also the hardest to quantify as death is avoided by such a large margin that it would seem the subject was never in jeopardy to begin with. ;)

46852

Ry'leh turning AI was no surprise to me. Jazzepi started to seem apathetic after I eliminated a host of his mages. After that he started to just throw shamblers at me. When I responded by cranking out mounted sacreds he began to stop submitting turns all together. The Ry'leh thing is almost a non-issue. I now have no desire to spend the resources required to enter the sea and I can easily drive back the AI, making them simply an annoyance. My focus is on Ashdod.

I must admit that the game has lost a lot of momentum and drive. Though I know for a fact that it will most likely be decided in the next 10 turns or so (with me as the victor of course. :)), so please hang in there. My belief is that we have entered the late game. If people aren't ready for late game tactics then you should hurry up, because this game is about to get ugly.

As for me, I'm looking for someone to take over as administrator of this game. I'm in no way quiting, but, if you couldn't tell, my ability to devote a lot of time to these games has become limited. I'm in 3 games and administering 2 of them. I just want to lighten my load without dropping out. In fact, I really am in this game to win, particularly after this last turn.

I forgot, I was going to reply to this, after the turn. :p

Turn before last, I had Abysia's capital and another castle under siege. He was threatening both with large forces that were certain to attack my sieging forces. I had decided to rescript for a defensive fight, rather than Storming - and he staled, so nothing got done. So I decided I would submit as late as possible last turn, to see if he was getting a turn in or not..... and then the game was delayed a day..... then another day delay..... it was nerve wracking. :p

JimMorrison
November 28th, 2008, 07:45 PM
Well they were reasonable delays, first to find a sub, then to let him review his turn properly. Plus it just seems a bit off to ask you to be expedient with your hosting, so that my opponent will stale. >.> I just had to make sure I sent the appropriate actions, based on whether or not he submitted a turn, had nothing to do with anyone else, really. ;)

Jim, Understood.

46852, My apologies. I tried to extend this turn. I must have incorrectly submitted the password and didn't notice it hadn't worked. This is exactly why I say I need someone else to admin this game. I just don't have the time to confirm my actions.

I'm willing to roll back the turn if everyone thinks that would be appropriate. Doing so probably hurts me and the alliance against Ashdod the most as I scored massive victories against Ashdod this turn. His Northern forces (Including his thugs/SCs) have been entirely wiped off the map and unless he deploys something new, he will fold like a house of cards. What do people think?

Alright, there seems to be only four players still interested in turning in their orders. Traks, 46852, JimMorrison, and I. It seems that the players for Ashdod and Ulm aren't interested in playing anymore. One nation has had a sub already.

I'm half tempted to place both nations on AI. I'm not up to the task of asking for another sub. I also feel that we all want this game to end one way or the other. I'm very invested in the game, but could easily dismiss it if the other players wanted to move onto fresh new games. For me, it is honestly no fun to attack people who don't fight back.

Here are the options:
1) I find new subs for Ulm and Ashdod. Then we stagger along until I win.
2) I set to AI Ulm and Ashdod. I declare war on every remaining nation and eventually win the game.
3) We declare peace and we all move onto a new game. We could of course agree that I won, but I'll accept a tie as a common courtesy.

Man..... I gotta say, I thought originally that I was flat out -screwed- in this game. Started right in the center, got hemmed in on all sides, had a sub-par income, and few attractive options. After a long research hiatus (go go Magic3!) I was ready to roll, and wow..... I've never had so much fun playing Caelum, and the nation is doing great now. ;)

That said..... well, I will be bummed if the game ends, but setting Ashdod to AI will certainly bend me over, with such a long border between our nations.

So, I vote for 1, but if it's too hard to find a sub, I would sadly vote for 3.

But I grew up with the impression that my opinion is the only one that matters. That's how we roll here in America. :p

But that is all irrelevant in the face of a war declaration. Caelum is appalled, and aghast, and maybe even akimbo towards this unexpected turn of events. We will call 51 the first turn of notice on our NAP then (we did have a NAP....?), and thus 53 is final turn of notice, and turn 54 borders may begin to shift.

Apparently the 900 lb gorilla that was Ashdod, has been replaced by a couple of poo-flinging 150 lb chimpanzees.

Let us see what lives in this tangled web. And let us pray that we can find a sub for Ashdod, so this game can have a proper climax from our menage-a-seis, if you will. :p

Try some Echinacea/ Goldenseal mix. Echinacea purpurea is a great imminune booster. Hydrastis canadensis is as well but very potent. Don't use it on a common basis though because it can cause a host of side effects. See a herbalist that knows what they are talking about for details.

I don't see any reason for you to go. I'm sure we will have a pleasent and busy holiday season. I think if someone wants a delay it can be worked out. :D

Tis the season for delays. I think well all be understanding.

JimMorrison
December 15th, 2008, 04:25 PM
Echinacea can be used in a fairly ongoing manner without serious side effects, at low dosages. It can be megadosed for upwards of a week with no problems as well.

Goldenseal (Hydrastis) however is extremely powerful in action, and should be used sparingly, for short periods of time. It can also be somewhat megadosed for a few day period as long as not being used before or after, but it will make your liver work very hard (not that Goldenseal itself is hard on the liver, but it ejects toxins from your system).

Though if you are still feverish, what I generally do is burn the fever out, intentionally. If you can get some Sambucol (Black Elderberry Extract), it has some extremely powerful anti-viral activity. Take a big swallow of that, bundle up tight, and rock yourself to sleep. Probably wake up in an hour or two, dazed, delirious, and hot. That's good, take another swig of Sambucol, relax, and fall back asleep. When I do this, and push my temperature up a couple more degrees, I am over the illness and just having recovery symptoms (lung butter, et al) within 6-8 hours.

At any rate, good luck. Hopefully you're back in action soon. <3

I beg to differ with you Jim. I feel that boosting your immune sytem over a long term just makes it weaker and dependent on the herbs. At least thats my take on it. Do consult a herbalist before taking Goldenseal, It has been banned in some states due to people overdosing on it. Yes herbs are powerful and not to be taken lightly. :D

I didn't know about Sambucol, I'll have to ask about it. If it is good I'll have to add it to my gear. Does it taste as vile as Echinacea? Nah it couldn't, nothing tastes worse...:D

I tend to make a pot of chicken soup and drink hot cider when I'm feeling ill. But I guess that makes me a freak.

No, the freaks are the ones that when you mention hot tea, ask you if coffee is okay because it's the only "hot" thing they can come up with, that's liquid. O.o

And yes, some say that any extended period of Echinacea -can- make the immune system dependent on it. There's of course not really any studies done. My basic rule of thumb, is that the longer you use it, the less you ingest at a time.

The Sambucol is Black Elderberry. It's almost vile, but it comes as a syrup, and really isn't that bad, compared to whatever horrible virus you have, and any other meds people might try to push onto you.

I thought the limitations/bans on Goldenseal were entirely due to the misuse in masking drug testing results? I'd be willing to bet if anyone has actually caused any liver damage, or gone to the hospital, it's because of that as well. Megadosing is always something you want to be cautious with, as most herbs have almost 0% side-effects at their normal effective dosage, but many can make you feel a bit sick if you overdo it. Personally, I've come to the point where if I really want to cleanse my system, I just do a purifying complex of Goldenseal, Echinacea, Peppermint, Red Raspberry Leaf, Dandelion Root, and Milk Thistle Seed (all at the normal dosages or slightly less, and relying on the synergy). Sometimes other herbs pop in to say hi, like Ginkgo or Gotu Kola. :p

I have much less painful concoctions to ingest, to clean the pipes out. :p Google "Internal Saltwater Bathing" if you get a chance. It is really quite effective, and not nearly as horrific as eating a "can" of horseradish, or taking an enema.

Caelum is not afraid of your veiled threats, however. We live to die, that is duty, that is honor. :hurt:

People have died from ingesting too much goldenseal. Thats why I'm very cautious about letting people just take it. Heh, there's a method to rid yourself of poison oak allergies, I do it every time I go deep into the woods. I eat one tiny baby leaf about 4 weeks before I go. I knew a guy that thought if a little was good a bowlful would be better... It wasn't pretty... :nono: A little cautionary tale. :D

Well, unless 46852 is a pregnant or lactating woman..... he is very unlikely to suffer a real reaction any kind of "reasonable" amount of Goldenseal.

I'll admit though, I don't often recommend its use either. But mostly because it's so expensive, and you use it so sparingly in general. I would hope that when I flippantly use a term like "megadosing", that someone unfamiliar with the herb, the term, or both would completely avoid the activity without more information.

Probably crazy for me to expect people to act rationally at all, but maybe I just assume a lot about our Dom3 peeps. :p

Hmm, I never thought of people using it to mask substance abuse. Maybe thats how they od on it. Anyway it is a useful tool when your ill with a viral illness. Thats something we can agree on. :D

PS. I just looked on line about this herb. Now I regret ever mentioning it, its now a endangered species. So I suggest growing some in your garden rather than harvesting in the wild. :D

After looking at the recent turn I'm thinking what Custer's last thoughts were. Look at all those !@#$ing Eagle warriors. :D

I vote that we end the game and call it a draw. We are all sort of big and bad and I'm sure we could war on for a really long time, especially given our lack of enthusiasm.

If you must know, I've got 2 tartarians up and running without feeblemind as well as the chalice. I've got enough nature income for GoR every round. If someone wishes for the chalice from me I could eventually wish it back. I'd use my extra stock of nature gems to just cast GoH until that happens of course. Then there are the matrix slave vine lords who will have over a dozen buffs each and are already kitted out with artifacts and the like. Not to mention my actual flying army of sacred units and mages sitting on Ashdod's cap. Ghost riders and horrors and blah blah blah. Lets just call it a three way draw and get some fresh new games for a fresh new year.

I agree, I'm sorry I didn't have the time to pay this game enough attention. See yah. :D

Thank god, I was just going to brooch the subject again myself.

With Bwaha staling (understandable, it happens), it was looking more like Ashdod would have to go AI. Problem is, I'm already being run in circles by 2 AIs down in the south (Bandar Log decided they wanted to play, even while getting crushed by Vanheim).

This was an incredibly fun game while it lasted, and the real shame here is that we did not get the chance to have a proper showdown, but I would be willing to say I think the game lost its soul when Calahan disappeared, but sort of just refused to die.

I didn't have as many top end tricks as you, AoE, as I was hampered by HORRIBLE gem income in my starting lands (I had 5 Air, 6 Water, and 5 Astral I believe, before attacking Abysia), but I was stressing versatility, and was soon to summon all 3 of the Fire Kings, as well as the Air Queens now that I had the Gale Gate up. Of course, your Tarts probably had full immunities, but the Queens would just raid, which is what most of my armies would do. It would be bloody and exciting, if the game was still wanting to be played. :p Darn, now I have to find another game to play in as Caelum, I learned some interesting tactics in this game, and I'd really like to chalk up a win before attempting a new guide for them. ;)

Before you write that guide you should talk with me about some thoughts I've been having about them. I've become really interested in middle age Caelum and might play them as well in the near future.

Thanks everyone for a fun time. See you in another game.

Hey everyone, I have to apologize for my abrupt absence from the end game, I truly am sorry :(

As I already said I caught a nasty virus that kept me in my bed really feverish for around a week (Coxsackie A virus for those who are interested... hmm spelling instruction "cocksucka"?), after that my daughter and wife got it too et cetera et cetera, a vicious cycle of everyone being sick, nice way to spend the Christmas and end the year.

After that it was holidays and travelling and I rudely kind of forgot the whole Dom3 business, I feel bad about that now, should have at least tried to check that you got a replacement for me.

PS. I'm intrigued to see all the herbalists giving advice here, such a resourceful community! :)

PPS. No, I'm not a pregnant woman, so I could have given that Goldielocks or whatever a try ;)

Well, thanks for checking in. Sorry the holidays sucked. Perhaps a rematch when I'm up to joining another game.

Hello everyone.

First up, I'd like to apologise to all the players in this game for my sudden disappearance last October. The short version of a very long story is that I went to Greece due to work, and while there I unfortunately ended up in a rather nasty RTA (Road Traffic Accident) on day one. Beat that for a poor start!!! This was then the cue for me to spend one month in a Greek hospital for myself :hurt:, and a further two months at the hospital looking after a close relative who was involved in the same accident. Credit where credit's due. This episode did a bang up job of turning my life on it's head  Thankfully everything turned out more or less ok in the end, but it certainly took ages for things to return to anything resembling normal.

Anyway, enough of all that (since I've certainly had enough of it the past six months) and back to the business at hand, which is for me to say sorry once again. This time I'm sorry for depriving you all of what was shaping up to be a really great game. I haven't had chance to go through all the game thread yet, so not sure how the game panned out, but I'm guessing that the 'Big Bad' dropping out must have brought about a fairly disappointing change to the games growing flavour. No idea how this game would've developed had I not encountered a real life "Doom Truck" (tramping+fear effects) but the fun as always would have been in finding out :) Although it's difficult to imagine how 'Lord Of The Rings' would have been as good if Sauron had simply disappeared when things were getting interesting at the start of the 'Two Towers' book , with the rest of the story revolving around how the Elves and Man shook handbags at each other, while the Hobbits talked about what makes a good breakfast :) You just can't beat a good old classic 'everyone unite against the big evil bad guy' story :D And who knows, one day the bad guy might actually win ;)

Finally, I'd just like to thank everyone who played in this game, with an extra thanks to AreaOfEffect for organising the whole thing and coming up with the map. Also thanks to Llamabeast of course for his excellent server. I hope to, and am looking forward to, playing in games with you all again soon now that I'm back. I should be around for a good long while as well, so no need to fear me dropping out of future games. Since I certainly had no intention of leaving in the first place. I can safely say that MP Dominions is the first time I've enjoyed computer gaming since the heydays of the late 80's/early 90's. Though I do of course reserve the right to disappear again in the future should I have another encounter with a truck-driving colour-blind Albanian. But that's just common sense isn't it :)

Welcome back! Nice to see you alive, if not completely well. We sure did miss you.

I must say the ending of the game came to a screeching halt. We subbed in a player after a series of stales and it just wasn't the same. I rolled over a rather large army of yours using a series of battlefield buffs and stellar cascade spam. That, for me, was the last interesting thing that I remember. I guess I could dig up the replay if you want to see.

We unfortunately declared the game over and nobody won. Sad part is that the match up between me and Jim would have made for quite the show in my opinion.

Thanks for the friendly message AoE :) Only had chance to lightly browse the forums so far, but I must say it feels so so good to be back

Yeah, from reading the last few posts on this thread it certainly seems like this game just died and lost most of its meaning after I disappeared. Makes me feel even worse about it now :o despite it being out of my control. And what I'm sorriest most about is the huge lost potential that went with it :( I was predicting many epic battles ahead, and was so looking forward to the challenge of being labelled the 'Enemy of All' and squaring up against all the other nations from my lofty position :p With my loyal (I hoped) flying sidekick on hand of course :D

And thanks for the offer of seeing some of the battles. But don't think I could emotionally handle seeing all my lovely Adons put to the sword :( The pain. The pain.

With Sarumon leading Caelum to help crush the armies of men, I think evil had a good shot, since I was insulating almost your entire border, and had managed to keep anyone from attacking me for "protecting" you. ;)

It was looking to be exciting. I really got screwed early on (placed in the center, post expansion gem income of 5A and 4W, or the other way around), but I converted my 3Magic scale into a strong mid-game push. I think you would have won a 1v1 (though it was more of an FFA by that point!), but I was starting to develop some very interesting tactics with Caelum, so it likely would have been a very bloody clash either way.

Anyway, glad you're back and okay, Cal! Was really worried for you, man. Let that Albanian's insurance company know that your MP PBEM ally wants to sue for mental anguish and loss of victory compensation. :p
