Looks like the work of a committee.
"It needs to look sleeker and faster and larger. Like a real upgrade"
"Fine but it cant look TOO new. It must also have all of the well known recognized parts that the old fans can relate to"

That image has been out for a month now, judging by Atrocities' reaction, I'm gonna guess he's been in coma since it was released.

I personally liked Andrew Probert's response to it.

The ship looks like someone ran it through a photo morph program. you know the one that makes you look all stretched out and goofy.

This is ... I am at a lose for words for the first time in over 7 years as a member here. This is crossing the line.

By the way, Majel Roddenberry has passed away. :(

That sucks. The original Number One, ALL of the computer voices in all of the star trek series and movies, and of course Lwaxana Troi.
She will be missed.

Does anyone know if she finished her filming parts for Star Trek 11

I gave up on that movie long ago and every new piece of information just gives me more reason to not see it.

I saw a few images of what was a "proposed" re-imagining of the Enterprise, and they were so-so.:re:

Then I saw what they REALLY went with, and just about screamed !!!:mad::down:

Wheels? Might as well have included a mower blade and John Deere logo.

Meh, looks like the rest of the federation ships, big stupid lookin dish connected to a cylinder by a dinky, flimsy strut with 2 more cylinders sticking out on toothpicks....

I honestly can't see what the issue is... looks like any average Federation ship...

I always liked the look of the klingon and romulan ships anyhow, sleeker, more functional.

I've always found interesting the different design philosophies of various empires in Star Trek. On the face of it it's just to differentiate them, but as they are used various aspects become connected to them.

Federation ships are joint explorers/warships. They're mostly just for flying around looking at things, with a few added weapons just in case. Most recognisable is their big sensor dish.

Klingon ships are pure warships. They don't mess around with luxury and they would admittedly be rather poor at science stuff.

Romulan ships are especially symptomatic of Romulan aims, though it might not be particularly apparent. Obviously the real reason you don't see much variation in Romulan ships is they have never really been extensively covered. You want the Romulans to show up, just throw in the same Warbird as usual. Story wise though it is interesting. The Romulans favour big ships, a Warbird is twice the size of the Enterprise. It's slower than other races ships, perhaps mostly because it's larger, and it uses a unique power source, which might give more power but destroys the whole ship if it fails.

So, Klingons like ships that are fast and can fight like warriors, using tactics to strike and withdraw. The Federation just wants the best they can make to fly around looking at things, while apparently the Romulans just want a huge ship to get somewhere, decloak, then blast the hell out of any victims. Hopefully destoying them as quickly as possible because they can't afford heavy damage.

VERY nicely done, Randallw, very nicely done indeed.:)

I like how you breakdown the individual design philosophies, and how they're justified.
