I've posted my first mod in the Mods forum (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/Forum25/HTML/000018.html). It was inspired by suicide_junkie's FTL map (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/Forum23/HTML/003670.html). Reading the discussion of how he created his map (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/Forum23/HTML/003631.html), I kept thinking, "There's got to be an easier way." The thread also made me aware that the System - Random Movement ability works.

My Hypermaze mod utterly fails to meet sj's goal of "classic SF FTL" movement, but it does have other benefits:

1) it can generate random maps from the normal Game Set-Up screen.

2) AIs can be used, although they will only perform about as well as they do in an Ancient quadrant.

3) The hyperspace background bitmaps came out even better than I imagined they would. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Warning: because of the included bitmaps, the .zip file is 7.8M.

Cap'n Q

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the
human mind to correlate all of its contents. We live on a placid
island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was
not meant that we should go far. -- HP Lovecraft, "The Call of Cthulhu"
