I'm back. I finally was able to get on the internet thru my Wii, since I could no longer go to any of the public libraries in Tampa. Does anyone know how I can d/l stuff thru the Wii so I can put it on my computer?

Do I really want to know what you did to get blacklisted from the public libraries? .... no, no I don't think I do. ;)

Welcome back. I am a bit confused, though. how are you using your wii to get online, that CAN'T go through your computer, too?

My address is in another county, and now the Hillsborough County libraries will no longer loan books or dvd's or cd's out to out-of-county patrons unless they pay for a $100 library card. Forget that!

I still don't understand how you can get online with a Wii, but you can't connect a PC. Any network you could connect the Wii to would also accept a regular computer, since you have to connect it to a router of some sort.

Not sure if Opera on the Wii is capable of downloading files; it would have to be able to write them to the SD card slot if it is at all possible. Then, you'd simply put your SD card in a card reader hooked up to your PC, and you're good to go.

I was thinking about that myself. What is a good but cheap card reader? I can't hook it up to my pc (due to the fact it won't recognize the USB ports), but I can transfer the files on my work pc to cd-rom.

All card readers are pretty much the same; I doubt the parts inside are made by more than 1 or 2 companies.

OK, thanks. I guess the next time I go to Best Buy or even Wal-Mart I'll check them out. I got 2 USB ports on the back of the Wii. I was thinking of getting a keyboard for one and a card reader or something like it for the other.

The Wii has a SD card slot built-in. I'm not sure if it would actually have drivers for arbitrary flash card reader devices.

All you need to know is that nintendo is a horrible evil company hell bent on making your purchase everything needed to actually make it a functional, enjoyable machine.

I can rig an xbox to work with a computer that connects with a wireless network, connect my external harddrive and browse its contents, connect and view videos stored on any computer in my network, but the wii is a horrible horrible urine-filled device hell bent on using hello kitty and sonic the hedgehog and racist italian sterotypes to kill us all.

This may be a mute point in a few months. I was already planning on getting a laptop for the family for Christmas. Now my wife has mentioned about getting one with our income tax money. So I may not need to rely on teh Wii as my only way of getting on teh internet. Plus, due to the economy, we're being forced to move back into Hillsborough County, so I don't have to worry about paying that $100 library card. I'll get one for free, and use my own library card # instead of my sister-in-law's. But that probably won't be for another 3 or 4 months.
