Are there any MODS with a single EXE file that includes everthing needed to get the MOD out of the starting gate right away?

This would be a very good thing.

Are you talking about mods with an "installer" exe?

Yowza. Do any exsist where you can just install the mod and not need ANY additional files?

That's a bad thing, actually. Standard packs of shared files are better for everyone involved. No time wasted re-downloading the same content over and over again. Less hard disk space wasted duplicating files. Cheaper for your generous web hosts donating their own time and money keeping the hosting going.

There is only a single Image Mod to worry about, anyways. It's not like there are dozens of such packs maintained separately from each other.

So where is this mythical beast downloaded? I keep hearing about it but it doesnt seem to actualy be anywhere.
Overwriting files is no big deal.
I'd prefer a MOD that you just jump in turn the key and go.
They do exsist you know, though perhaps not in the SE 4 MOD world.

He has emailed me to say he is missing components and planets. I've twice asked for specific info to see where the problem is, but I don't get an answer. (Planet or component number or name would indicate where the problem is)I've told him another person (in Italy) downloaded the Skywalker mod and image packs and has no trouble what so ever.
I think Skirmisher doesn't appreciate that all this work, updated packs, hundreds more planets, components, the mods themselves are all done by people in their own time and they don't receive a single cent - the games copyrighted after all.
As for having all the updates in one mod, which mod? As Fyron pointed out if you put them in all mods, you'd be wasting time downloading the extras again and again!
One of the reasons the games have lasted so long (ten years or so), is because they can be modded, updated and improved. Downloading a seperate image pack once, is no big deal!

And standard packages of shared media exist for other games, too. Neverwinter Nights, for example, has/d a massive "Community Expansion Pack" that a lot of mods relied on.

I bought the CD of SE4 in 2002, and I've never really played it at length until now (7 years later). So for me personaly I haven't got bored of the basic game.
But on the other hand I realize that most everybody else here is bored of it.

Thats cool, I have other software thats frankly more interesting.
Thanks again for your help Alikiwi. Good Day.

Well SE 4 is what it is. Enjoy!

I certainly can appriciate all the work involved. But on the other had you wouldn't have made the Mod in the first place if you didn't want to, right?

Just because your explanations were unsatisfactory regarding the setup of your Mod doesn't mean it's a bad Mod.
You have the support of your elite SE 4 Modding comrades.

So the fact that I couldn't grasp it and set it up properly shouldn't make you upset.

I'd hardly say most everybody here is bored with it. I for one, with assistance from Alikiwi and Kwayne, am currently building a NEW mod for the community.

Alikiwi himself has worked on one, as you apparently already know.

Atrocities and Intimidator are working on an extensive mod as well.

Work is also in motion to update some of the imagepacks you seem to have so much problem with.

Activity may have slowed down, but boredom is hardly the reason. SE4 still has a lot of potential, in my opinion.

Well by all means enjoy yourself. Are you also of the mindset that making the mod into one exe file and including all the files needed is foolishness?

Look at strategy firsts Deluxe version. It is for all intensive purposes ,one really good Mod.

I'd say maybe your inability to grasp it might well be the source of the pissy attitude, rather than any unsatisfactory explanations or unnecessary image packs.

You've had issue with every attempt to explain things, or help you understand how and why things work the way they do.

My suggestion - If you don't like it, or can't comprehend it, don't play a mod. Or any mod, if it requires effort to update things beyond the stock game. Stick with what you know, and you won't have anything to complain about.

Meanwhile, SE4's elite modding comrades will continue their efforts, as much for the enjoyment of others in the community as for themselves.
