A long time ago there was a thread where an idea for a game was proposed. The idea was to play the game as a Neutral player would play. This is a spinoff from that. I didn't follow the formula exactly, but modified the idea a bit for PBW. You can read the original thread here.... http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/Forum23/HTML/001202.html
Any way, this game is a little different from the typical PBW game. You don't upload an empire or anything like that. All five human players are neutrals generated by the game which I have turned over to human control. Pick the one you want, all five are equals.
There are also five AI in the game. Normally I don't like AI in PBW games, but I have disabled surrender, and the AI players start with three planets and you only have get one, so it shouldn't be too bad. If they are still too weak, let me know and I will give them bonuses and disable trading in future Neutral Challanges.
Anyway, if you are interested, go to PBW and look for "Neutral Challange" and pick one of the open spots.

I'll leave this up for a couple more days to see if anyone is interested. One spot is taken. Four left.

I'd love to join, since I always have a thrust for AI-bashing... too bad I'm preoccupied with some stupid university exams.

Yeah, we've had a couple cool game ideas drop lately for lack of takers. Must be exams are a bad time to start a new game. Maybe after the new patch comes out...

You know, this idea leans towards the Role Play side of the game. It's not so much that you build up the hugest military and smash the rest of the galaxy but that you play your race properly. I hope MM continues to add non-military functions to the game, like more detailed 'planet conditions' and techs to handle them, so we an have fun with small games that focus on something other than massive conquest.

The Zynarra Holdings has waited DECADES for this opportunity. We are soooo tired of all you guys playing nicey-nice to us at first. Oh, sure, for the first few years it's all buddy-buddy. Trade Treaty, Military Alliances, gifts, star maps to systems that we will never live long enough to see for ourselves... whatever it takes to get to our hard won Ice Colonizing technology.
But pretty soon, after you star-hopping two-faces have bled us dry of technology, finished swapping crappy tin cans for our finest flag ships, and subverted a vast majority of our culture through your insidious spycraft, here come the warships. How many times have we been made slaves by your empire? Shipped across the cosmos to work your facilities? Just because we breathe Methane and we were happy in our own private little Eden?
Enough! ENOUGH I SAY!! NO MORE FISHFACE JOKES! We WILL travel to the stars and extract our bitter vengence!! Onward to victory in our generic shipsets and single-colored flag!!
(p.s. there are still a few spaces left for the game)

There are some really solid reasons for this to be an interesting game.
Because there are no empire points, cultural modifiers, or specialized techs available to the Neutral Races this is probably the most balanced game that human players will play against each other.
It will come down to skill at technological progress, statistical combat, and strategic development.
The choices made DURING this game will be MUCH more important then in many PBW games in which the choices you make BEFORE turn one are often the ones that make or break you.

Boogie on over to the PBW site and sign-up... that is if you think you're up to the Challenge.
The game hasn't started yet, and there were still 3 or 4 spaces open to the very best and bravest Last time I checked.

We heard that Zynarra are good eating when roasted.
When we invade your homeworld, we will be nice and give you a pick on slave colonies to be shipped to.

It was probably a mistake, but I filled the Last open spot. This should be REAL interesting....

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Do to an amazingly fortuitous set of events, there is yet, for a VERY limited time only, a space open in the highly touted, intergalactical hearalded NEUTRAL CHALLANGE on the PBW site.
This is a brand new start, and we will begin very soon, so you haven't yet missed a thing... except for the gleeful anticipation, that is.

After reading the long thread on the Neutral Challange idea all I can say is wow. Please keep us updated on the game progress. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
Obviously you can't tell us everything, but the odd bit of news would be great. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

The game is waiting for just ONE MORE PLAYER!
We will not kick off until we have this Last, lucky contestant isolated in the final remaining hot seat of our specially constructed, PBW immersion therapy, soundproof chambers.
The Last remaining Neutral Race, the race that is quietly, patiently, humbly awaiting for someone to treat them like gold or like used kleenex as the whim strikes is...

The Nyuk-Nyuk Republic!
The Last Neutral Race is preparing to be led on its Maiden voyage beyond its watery Homeworld. Those friendly, translucent blue, methane breathing merchants are finally going get their shot at the Cosmic Brass Ring.
We'd all like to wish those lovable, funk-a-delic hammer-headed, no-thumbed wonders a smooth journey.
Bon Voyage!

Well, Combat Squirell has gone missing during the PBW hiatus. We have an open spot in this game if anyone wants to take over for him.
