View Full Version : Map The Land of Ethereal Squirrels (wraparound, 103+13) - Actually finally fixed!

NEW: I actually bothered to remove the two extra province dots and therefore redo all province connections. The fixed version won't work with old saves using the same map and yet it will replace the old one
NEW: Removed the duplicate province on 5.10.
I aimed for 100-120 land provinces and apparently hit the target zone. It's a wraparound of a size I haven't done yet and that won't be too much fun for sea nations.
Distinctively from my older maps, rivers do not allow water travel between adjacent water provinces (there's just one such connection anyway)
I also included the GIMP .xcf file for anyone who wants to rip the graphics or modify the map or whatever. Ground itself is on the background layer, graphics and the white dots are on vuorta-layer and borders are on rajaa-layer.
Disregard that. I'll supply a .xcf upon request
Map itself is in squirrels-fixed.zip
.xcf is in squirrels-xcf.zip
I personally won't link to Dominions 3 content made by me any more and I hope no-one else will either (old links are fine, whatever). You should be able to find them or most of them by asking on IRC or googling the other forums

Nice graphics and design. I've seen these nice graphics in other maps and I'm glad to see them again. Rivers and bridges create nice choke points. Are the start points assigned?

Nope. I rather leave that for game hosts to do as while certain start points might be fine for 10 players, they could create a problem for 7 players et cetera.

Nice map. Good size!

There seems to be an error. provinces 67 and 69 are right on top of each other, and 67 has no connections.

You're true.
I won't fix it straight away since fixing it will require me doing all the neighbours again.

We all need to hire Trumanator to double check our maps for us! He found a goof on my map, too. :)

Heh, both of them were just dumb luck. I started a small game to give it a run and found both problems close to my start.

Nice looking map.
And I definitely approve of the name =)

Another bug, 44 and 45 are also on top of each other. Not pleasant when you start it 45, as it has zero neighbors.

Argh. Thanks. I'll have to fix it some day, but due to it's tedious nature that won't be now.

Maybe just make it #nostart for now then? Since it doesn't affect gameplay unless you start there.

33 and 32, once again atop one another, though this time both have connections.

Phuh, I seriously need to be more careful when planting the white dots.

If you ever get around to this map again, there are (at least) the following four issues (assuming they're not intentionally odd riffing on the "ethereal" theme...but these aren't the named provinces...)
84 appears to be water, but is actually land
108 appears to be water, but is actually land (mountain)
114 appears to be water, but is actually land (mountain)
115 appears to be land, but is actually water
...haven't done a comprehensive check, but after getting fairly far into a game, these were noticeable problems.

Those are indeed pretty terrible mistakes, but bah, apparently there's still an unfixed problem of having one province dot too many. I'll have to do all the provinces again if I ever fix that anyway.

Oh well, I had a boring enough night to bother fixing the crap.
Just as a note: the fixed version won't work with old saves using the same map and yet it will replace the old one
Removing the two useless provinces on top of each other did that.
Also, names and province features probably changed a little as I couldn't be bothered to look exactly what I had put where the last time.

Are you sure this is absolutely completely finished? Because I've started a new game with it and have found that water provinces do not connect to their shore provinces...

Well, that's a big mistake for sure.
Finality seems to be a flexible term. There's an even more final version on the first post now with this problem fixed.

I'm pretty sure I did check the file got added to the post, but apparently I just failed more.
It's there now anyway.

Province #81 seems to be missing its Forest tag.

I made it even more fixed by making it work on case-sensitive filesystems and changing the singular lake to a no start. :D

Hi.
I really like this map. Thanks so much for taking your time in doing such a good job.
But it seems there is a little bug with connection between provinces #114 and #1. They seemed to be connected on map but they are not.
Thanks anyway for the good job.

Should 25-20 and 23-19 be connections?
The map in 26 does not have them.

This version has 1-114, 19-23 and 20-25 all connected.
