AI's mining tactic?

Question 1: What is the largest AI-laid minefields you have seen? And how often do you see AI-laid minefields with more than 40 mines?

Question 2: Given that you have maximum tech, and I want you to design a self-contained deep penetration recon ship. What are you going to put on it?

I've seen the AI insist every turn attempting to lay mines in a minefiled that already has the maximun allowed (100 default) too many times.

Yes, 100+ minefields is no problem at all. Of course it depends which race you are talking about.

As to the scout question. I guess that really depends what you are planning to do with it. If it is just a scout ship, I suppose I would use Quantum Reactor, Solar Sail, Cloak, and Sensors. That would fit all into a frigate, I believe.
Of course you could also use a DN with 20+ mine sweepers, armor and shields, repair bay, and add a little bit of napalm to glass planets (and/or troops to take them over) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif .
