----------------------------------------------------------------

Alright Folks.

Because last game had the organiser disappear from the board, I have stepped in to fill his shoes. taking the oppertunity to get some experience managing a game.

---------------------------------------------------------
The Players:

Midgärd Colonial Went AI turn 29, AI defeated turn 30
Patala nrasch
Pythium BlackGuard
Atlantis Mauxe Mule Warrior subbed out turn 35
Agartha Corinthian
Mictlan P3D Went AI turn 14, AI defeated turn 20
C'tis mscfish
T'ien Ch'i Adder89 Gotchaaa subbed out turn 24
Jomon nerozero
Utgärd Kojusoki
Pangaea Saros
Ermor Korwin

The Rules:

Vanilla
Late Age
New Players (>4-5 games experience) only

Urraparround2 map modified for equitable starting points
(http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5954 - Map
http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Urraparrand_with_harbors - Description)

Score graphs off (!)
Hall of fame size 15
Magic site frequency 40
Gold multiplier 125
Renaming on
-------------------------------------------------------------

Otherwise good luck everyone. New players remember that late age Ermor is different and often banned. I advise playing a few turns of it if you haven't, having a look. Also Atlantis starts on land, like everyone else.

So I have rolled back to the pretender upload stage. I'm hoping Xanatos uploads in the next 24 hours and this road block doesn't cause too much ball-ache.

My oppologies to people who are getting impatient. I figured it was a better call to get the game right at the beginning.

OK folks, i am on the road and for whatever reason the laptops i am using to access the game (via my external harddrive) while usually working, this laptop is not, the latest i will be home is sunday, so I should probably drop from this game due to technical issues=/ which is very disappointing for me. but i get cant open file errors on this machine when ending turns.

Not at all unhappy. Better starting position and better pretender design.

I realized to late that a design involving luck and turmoil will work poorly on a map with 125% gold. Fortunately I could change that due to the restart.

Corinthian
November 26th, 2010, 06:26 AM
It is strange that none of my games have hosted in the last 16 hours (Guesstimate). And the people on the other forum have noticed that the server does not always respond to your turn file when you send it in.
Or that is, your orders get carried out on hosting, but the server do not update the fact that you sent them your turn file and thus do not host until the time limit.

Have anyone noticed anything similar here or am I just paranoid?

The Game page says Atlantis and C'tis are missing...

In tenderfeet the game page have said that Atlantis have been missing every turn for the last three turns. Yet despite that he has attacked indy provinces every one of these turns. This means that either he sends in his turn file ten minutes before deadline, or the server doesn't recognize his turn file for the purpose of knowing when to resolve turns. But do recognize it when resolving.

It's all very confusing.

Atlantis is being played by a guy named Mule Warrior. His last post on the forum was signing up for this game in the other thread, 16 days ago.

It is possible that he has simply forgotten that Dominions exist and do not intend to play anymore.

Maybe we should put him as AI as well?

To Patala: I just now submitted my orders, and sent you a fairly terse message, because we assumed that large army with elephants was about to attack our poorly-defended flank. A non-aggression pact would be wonderful. Atlantis has absolutely no interest in war with Patala.

The bananas were received, and to show our appreciation, this message should be accompanied by a crate of baby seal furs and a barrel of whale oil as gifts.

no, what you should have done was delete both the .trn and .2h files of this game, than ask llamaserver to resend your turn and try again. rolling back the turn, especially without asking or even telling anybody first is bad. you're the admin of the game, but it doesn't mean you can just do whatever you want whenever you want, as that's just wrong. there are many reasons why many people, including myself, hate roll backs. the chief reason among them is that roll backs tend to cause a variety of bugs, which sometimes destroy games altogether.

dark7element
December 5th, 2010, 01:39 PM

dark7element
December 5th, 2010, 11:23 PM
Eh, several people have suffered major setbacks. The null first turn has hurt me badly in the long run, and my unfamiliarity with Atlantis has made me run way behind on establishing enough forts. Plus, as was just discussed in this thread, Mictlan got mugged. Ermor is becoming a monster but everyone else is taking notice.

P3D
December 6th, 2010, 12:46 AM
I have zero out-of-game problem with getting mugged, one should epect it on a crowded map. My first expansion was scripted bad, I lost my 2nd expansion party to the Cyclops - which did not have H2 priest to cast Sermon of Courage. The rollback itself hardly affected me.

That was a pretty improbable loss alright. If it makes you feel better I could tell you that very province also ate one of my expansion parties earlier.

Then again. Of all the indies in the province. After your attack, the only one remaining is a single indy commander. I will send the scout that observed the battle to deal with him next turn and see if I cant punish him for both of us::D

Saros
December 6th, 2010, 09:18 AM
Hey now I still claim that province. I will be back with the survivors next turn.
Besides its not the most unlikely loss I ever had. The most hilarious was with an air/astral bless kailasa where first turn an arrow hit my tough mage/priest before he could start blessing my troops causing 3 dmg (25hp commander) and afflicted him giving battle fright and he just up and ran taking my army with him.
I was dumbfounded as to just how staggeringly unlikely that was.

Colonial
December 6th, 2010, 01:51 PM
All right, here's a potential worry:

Blackguard was saying that you sometimes get bugs from a rollback:

I know that on the rolled back version of turn 11 my pretender popped up, and this time around it hasn't even said the dorment pretender gods are awakening...

is it random what turn these guys begin to wake up, or is this a ****up?

13lackGu4rd
December 6th, 2010, 02:09 PM
don't worry, it's random when dormant pretenders are awakening. generally it's supposed to be on turn 12 but it's generally from turn 10-14 or so. you should have still gotten the general message that the pretender gods are awakening, but it's no biggie if you missed it.

So I'd better sort this out sooner rather than later. I'm not going to be in the game that much longer. My war with Pythium was going well when our neutral neighbor decided to invade me from left field.

this means we are going to need to change who is admining this game. since I can't really admin a game I'm no longer in.

we won't need to migrate the thread again since this isn't my only game and I'm not planning to leave the forum, so if you ever need the first post changed I'm just a PM away.

so, anyone volunteer? if we get no takers I will try to conscript mcsfish, since he's the cheeky basterd who attacked me. :P

I'll let korwin assess this one, since I'm literally two turns away from throwing in the towel by this point. if he doesn't chime in by around 6pm tomorrow I'll do the nessessary admining.

NB that Tein is at war with Jomon, and doesn't seem to be doing too well. probably not helped by the stalls.

I guess I should chime in, I've been fighting him and winning pretty clearly, although that has a lot to do with the fact that he has stalled his last two turns. He is in no way beaten though, still got all his mages, although his position is getting worse and worse for every turn.

Well I did the same thing i did with Atlantis, and checked his previous posts. It would seem that -not counting his signup post in the old thread- he has not made a single post to the forum for the last year. And the last game he played in also ended a year ago. It is possible that he has simply lost interest in the game and its community.

How bad IS his situation anyhow? Could maybe Utgård or Jomon chime in on the situation?

Well, this is only from the Jomon side of the war, but he hasn't lost anything significant just yet, only territory, but he seems outnumbered. He does however have all his mages, and they seem to have decent magic, so he is in no way finished off. However, Atlantis and Patala are fighting him as well, so it's definetly going to be tough.

I agree that we can't just let him chain stall, it might help my situation, but i'd rather have a fun fight.

all right, I recomment we give tien chi one more turn before taking action. after three stales, we'll be entitled to sub the position. I'll have to think about taking it on myself. I have some experience with EA TC, so i wouldn;t be completelyu thrown in the deep end. the prospect of loosing 2 wars in a row on the same map isn't particularly something to look forward to...

in the mean time its great of utgard to give them a turn's breathing room. if their other enemies, particularly jomon could also pledge to not push the attack this turn, that would be ideal

any chance Jomon?

there's no point letting TC stale a 3rd time, it'll only make the position that much worse for whoever subs into it, seeing that he's in a multi fronted war already. we really should freeze the game until we either hear from the TC player or sub someone in for him.

Just a quick FYI to everyone. If LA Ermor are in the game, then there is a random event all nations (except LA Ermor) can get that causes Ermorian cultists to attack a province. I'm guessing this is the 'attack' / 'random gaining of province' thing being talked about. (note I don't think this event applies to an all era game, as the event appears to be late era only)

You can blame LA Ermor if you wish for these attacks, but they are not really at fault (unless you consider actually existing as a fault) as there is nothing they can do about it, and it is certainly not a remote attack spell they can cast. The event is actually being triggered by the scales of the player who is getting attacked. So if a player wants to blame someone for these LA Ermor attacks, then they can usually blame their own scales for them :)

You can see the event here in Edi's event list. It is #253.

Strangely enough, Kings of drama has lost its score graph, when it should normally have one.

According to a notice at the top of the page, there was a bug witch caused the score graphs to appear. It was said to have been fixed. But apparently not.

As for Atlantis, its player seem to have disappeared from the forum. He is in a strong position though, with no ongoing wars and many provinces. It will probably not be hard to find a replacement. Though I think we should wait and see if he turn in *this* turn first. It might have been some kind of unavoidable, but temporary, family issue.

oooh, the hunter becomes the hunted. how does it feel? :P
by the way, you've got no reason to complain as its exactly the same thing you did to Midgard ;) always sucks to be on the other side of it though :P

This is just like the hated Bob that I know. First you refuse to die properly when told to. And then when I finally manage to drag a huge army all the way from the heartlands, at no small effort, you take your ball and go home!

And I who had just developed a great new way of countering your skelly spam! (Earth Elemental spam) All for nothing!

We have NAP!But you attack us with non-waring!

No we don't. I offered you a NAP in the begining of the game and you told me that you would have to think of it and that you would return to me about it after midgard was dead. Well, you never did.

So no NAP for you. My attack was entirely legit.

Huh, Atlantis and Patala stalled last turn.
For Patala its the first stall (and allready has this turn in), but Atlantis has allready 9 stalls (and the third pretender if I did not lost count...), is it cursed?

It seems Atlantis really is cursed, every time someone steps in to take over they disappear, spooky stuff.

But seriously, hopefully he'll show up, and this was just a one off thing.

Hopefully not cursed.

My power went out onm Tuesday and is still not restored.
I am back at work (and internet) today but I don't want to test the limits of my employer by installing Dom3 on my machine.

My plan is to get online tonight with my laptop and send my turn in.
Sucks that I stalled :( I was in a spot where I really need to manage every turn.

Its essentially game over for Patala anyways. Likely no more than 2-3 turns of existence depending how long it takes for the final fort to fall.

Honestly, did you script phoenix pyre or was this a major AI **** up?

Yeah I saw that it was quite a hoot. Looked like the AI to me though.

I have to go away for four days (8th to 12th.) I will take a portable install and will do my best to get turns in but I don't know exactly if/when I will be able to. Hopefully I will be able to play as normal but if timer could be extended to cover this period that would be perfect.
Who is admin at the moment anyways?

I (still) am :)
Changed hosting time to 96 hours. Enough?
Its in effect with next turn.

Corinthian asked me to sub Argatha for him.
I'm waiting for him to get the diplomatic status to me.

I'm seeing that I'm at war with C'tis...

(Added another 24 h for Saros, the 96 hours only extended to the 11th)

Yea its like Korwin says. I will be bowing out of this game due to real life time constraints. I am in too many games right now and I cant give them all the time they require. Because this is the game with the shortest deadline, this is the one that gets the axe. Also, I am already playing LA Agartha in another game and two games with the same nation is a bit much.

Still, I cant help but wonder how that Tomb Oracle gambit played out.

my stale was just idiocy :(

actually - part of my overall strategy is to initiate hostilities and then stale for a couple of turns. It throws people off...

Hey I am away for two days and will likely need an extension to make sure I don't miss a turn. I just sent in this turn and if the timer is 48h like I think I should be fine with just a 24h extension, hopefully I will get back in time but I don't want to stale out if I don't.

sorry guys, it seems like I can't keep up with this game. 3 stales total now(1 than a turn than 2 more I think). in all time just passed by faster than I expected it. now that my 2nd semester this year(and my final total for my BA) started I'll have even less time than usual, and seeing that I already have trouble keeping up I don't foresee it getting better.

so, I'm sorry everyone but please find a sub for me.

Hey guys i'm sorry but I will be slow in getting turns in for a while. I live in Christchurch NZ and we got hit by a major earthquake. Probably hundreds dead and everything is a shambles.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/christchur...rch-quake-Day-2 (http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/christchurch-earthquake/photos/4692812/Christchurch-quake-Day-2)

I'm working long long hours at the lab and power and net are intermittent so I will get to turns when I can but keeping a regular schedule will be difficult for a while.
I don't mind if you want to look for a sub as I understand how frustrating it can be to be left waiting on turns.

Thanks
Ben

I'm a bit confused. I placed the .trn file into savedgames under a folder I created (Last Rites), but when I open dominions3, I don't have the game available under continue existing game.

Korwin
February 24th, 2011, 01:10 PM
If you create a new local game, is there a new folder in savedgames?
Another posibility is, sometimes the trn file get to me with out the extension ie. Late_Phytium.trn without the .trn.
If thats the problem, renaming the file should do the trick.

SirMu
February 24th, 2011, 01:13 PM
1) Yes, there is a new folder in savedgames if I create a new game.
2) The file already came with .trn

Edit: Got it to work by exiting out of the folder with the .trn file.

I'm a bit lost; how can I move a commander when it's not showing up on the main screen because there are too many commanders in the province? I can't take my turn until I figure this out.

Korwin
February 27th, 2011, 03:47 PM
There is an arrow to scroll down, you may need to search for it, its visibility is not good.
Another trick is to Press "n" to get to an commander whitout orders. Another "n" and you get to the next commander without specific orders.

Edit: Or "F1"!

Yeah, I'm doing so terribly. I let the giants out of their perpetually being sieged box and out into the world; not to mention I did a communion completely wrong and what was supposed to be a massive earthquake spam party turned into Paralyze Paralyze Paralyze Paralyze Oh whoops look at that fatigue!

I can hardly even marvel how the AI managed to ignore my DIRECT ORDERS to cast spells that they were my mages were perfectly able to cast. This lost me a battle and many units. I don't get it. How does the AI ignore DIRECT ORDERS?

btw - I have found that the - and + keys on my keypad allow me to scroll down through a list of comanders too large to display at once on the main screen.
