What fun! I had said in an earlier post that I was about to complete my first mod, all I had left was the AI. Guess what? I have taken a stab at that darn thing and run into a problem that for the life of me I cannot figure out. I hope someone out there has heard of something similar and can guide me on what to do, here it is:
The Neutral AI will create designs for:
Attack Base
Base Space Yard
Carrier
Colony (Gas, Ice, Rock)
Troop Transport (only on a warship hull, not a freighter hull [?])
Fighter
Satellite
Mine
Troop
But Not:
Attack Ship
Defense Ship
Space Yard Ship
Boarding Ship
Mine Sweeper
Mine Layer
Satellite Layer
Recon Satellite
Can anyone help me? Aaron?

My first guess is that you have a "must have" ability for that design, but the AI has not researched a component with that ability yet.

Ok Q, I am still new to this forum. How do I do this? The only option I found was private message. This does not allow file uploading as well?

Your design file is just text. So cut and paste, and send as a private message.

President Shang I got your mail and I see several problems: sometimes the minimum and maximum size of the ship is not specified and in many designs there are several lines missing. Did you create this file completely new? Sometimes also the blank line between two different designs is missing. This will cause errors.
I recommend that you use an existing and tested design file and start to mod the numbers but don't delet or add any lines except maybe deleting misc. abilities that you don't need.

Make sure you have no double spaces before those ships, and also try checking to make sure that the ConstructVehicle file has those ship types included for the AI state it is in.
The frieghter is a simple fix, the primary ability determines which type of hull is used. Cargo - freighter, Launch/recover Fighters - carrier, and Colonize xxx - Colony ship - can do all kinds of fun stuff with those, although they don't always work well for the AI.

Ha, I got it. Turns out that when I tried to make the AI build at least one cargo storage unit on each ship it started thinking that all hulls were freighters. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
Anyone got a good cold remedy? I can't even see straight to type. Darn those kids! They give dad everything.
