View Full Version : Kamikaze Ships used bei AI??
Q

Because someone mentioned in an other thread on this forum that the AI uses now Kamikaze ships, I tried it once more. The AI built some Kamikaze ships with or without weapons and as strategy "ram" or "kamikaze", but in all cases the ships were doing nothing at all. So has anybody seen the AI using Kamikaze ships and if so how was this achieved?

Yes, in a game I'm playing now, the Cuppa sent a Light Crusier sized ship at my Destroyers. The kamakazi had 4 Kobalt Bombs abord. It was deffending a planet. The Cap Ship Missles on the destroyers made short work of it. It was the only one I remember meeting, but then I overwelmed the Cuppa shortly there after.

Thank you for your reply. So the Kamikaze ship was already in orbit of the planet when you attacked it or did it enter the sector to attack you?

Kamikaze ships are working to an extend already. They just don't join attack fleets or go on an attack on their own so basically, if you encounter one, you have run into it. This was fixed in the GOLD edition, they will now seek for fleets and will attack you.

My 5 Vetran level Destoyers entered the planet "square" for tactical combat. At that time there were 2 Cuppa Light Crusiers. One was a "standard" Cuppa LC, the other was the Kamakzi.
Both were located in the tatctical squares next to the planet.
The Kamakazi moved to intercept my destroyers and made directly for the lead ship
It had a 4 Kobalt Warheads
It had 1 self Destruct Device
A speed of 3
It took me by surprise. Then again, it also surpised me when the Cuppa captured a ship with some (correct me if I'm wrong), telepathic device?
That hurt, (my ego).
Hope this helps.

Ah yes, the Psychic Subverters. A weapon to be feared. There are two defenses: one, use Master Computers on your ships instead of bridge/lifesupport/crewquarters. Two, (if you don't have Master Computers) destroy his ships before they can use the Subverters http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

DirectorTsaarx:
Thanks, I'll remember that. It hurt to have to destroy my own ship. I wonder if Growltigga uses them. Hmnm, Master Computers are expensive, and Long Range Weapons costly to research.

Number three against allegiance subverters: use fighters.

Oh good, now I have a reason to build Hybrid Battle Crusier / Fighter Carrier. Like the Japanese at the end of WWII.
BTW: Can you put fighter bays in a Battle Crusier?

Yes, you can. You can put any component that will go on a specialized ship type on the "generic" ships.
In other words you can have a fighter-launching mine-laying satilite-laying armed cargo-carrying colony-carrying battlecruiser.
Assuming you can fit it all in.

I think the original Heinlein line is "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch" (TANSTAAFL).
Not to be confused with Niven's TANJ (or "There Ain't No Justice").
BTW - on the larger ships, the master computer can actually be cheaper than all the bridge/lifesupport/crewquarters. And once you get to Master Computer III, they only take up 20kT of space, which leaves more room for other stuff...

While I would not be surprised if Heinlein did indeed use the phrase, I belive it has been in Physics and Engineering circles long before that.
I understand it refers to the rudiments of Newtonian Physics. I am not well versed so I culd be wrong.

As for that design of a ship? I would not go that far, but wouln't surprise another human player? I Wonder if Growltigga will get wind of this.
A fleet of Battle Crusiers with Cap Ship Missles and its own figher cover would be an interesting challenge.
Thanks for the info.
