This mod contains highly altered or additional files that may or will cause interference with the master game files and it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that this mod be installed and played ONLY in a separate copy of the game and NOT run from the master game.

With permission from Cross here is the Cross Infantry mod adapted to work with WinSPMBT. Do not use this with WinSPWW2!

I modified the graphics so that they display correctly on WinSPMBT. Also made some small modifications to make the infantry look more "modern". This means more generic AT-Weapons and smaller backpacs. Also recolored the 'allied green' uniforms to be greener and added more green to the grey uniforms. Machinegun team graphics are also more generic.

Installation:
Copy the files in the ZIP...

...to your WinSPMBT\Game Data\Graphics -folder. But remember to back up those files before copying so that you can easily revert back to the old graphics if needed!

My thanks to Cross for making the original WinSPWW2 infantry mod which is available here. (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=48024)

EDIT
See post #17:
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showpost.php?p=796779&postcount=17
For alternate versions of this mod that make the infantry stand out better from the background graphics.

EDIT2
Winter infantry camo made available.

Realising that the modded infantry might blend too much in the background and be hard to spot (especialy on higher resolutions), I have been testing a concept.

Attached are two screenshots. The first shows the current infantry graphics as seen when using the WinSPMBT infantry mod provided above.

The second screenshot shows the same graphics, but with small one pixel wide black borders added to hopefuly make the graphics stand out more from the background and be easier to spot.

Which one do you think looks / works better? Should I make available a second mod with the black borders for all infantry? Or does it look too unrealistic / cartoonish?

Im interested to hear your oppinions, thank you.

The first one, without borders.

Is necessary install in other copy? I no think that change of graphics disturb a PBEM game. Or yes?
I think that is necessary do a backup´s files.

Please read this post:

That all said this is a graphics only mod and should not affect PBEM games. Then again I do not play PBEM so I can't be 100% sure.
Backing up your files first is always a good idea.

I prefer the first graphic.

The game does add a small shadow to the southwest of the units.
You could try adding a black border/shadow to only the SW of the men, this would emphasize the shadow and might be the effect you are looking for.

It's Shrapnel and SP Camo's policy to recommend a second game installation for modding. And it's a good policy. But it's up to you what you do on your own PC.

I have 3 installs of the game:

1.Vanilla (no mods at all)
2.PBEM Mod (no OOB mods so can PBEM, but has modded: sounds, icons, flags, ranks, names
3.OOB Mod (has all of the above mods, plus OOB mods)

You can install sound and graphic mods even in the middle of a PBEM game with no security problems. But if you change OOB files it WILL cause problems with PBEM games.

NB. When you create a new install of the game, you don't have to use the installer and install from scratch. Just copy the game to a new directory/folder and create a new a shortcut and you have a second install.

By pressing the key 5 you can display formation IDs in the CD version, what solved all the problems with spotting units.

2.PBEM Mod (no OOB mods so can PBEM, but has modded: sounds, icons, flags, ranks, names

What mod do you have for ranks and names?:D

I must be in the minority...but I much prefer the second png *with* the black border. I hope you make an alternate version with this border.

Actually the mod is for SPWW2. It just changes the rank abbreviations from Maj. to Major, Cpt. to Captain, Cpl to Corporal, Pvt. to Private etc. for about 4 nations

In MBT at least one of those nations has the longer ranks.

Names

As I'm British, I just changed the British names to family, friends, and some famous leaders, generals etc.

The game does add a small shadow to the southwest of the units.

The "automatic" shadow added by the game does not appear on the unit graphics if it is on a paved road, house or woods. Not sure if it is a game engine limitation or just a desing oversight.

You could try adding a black border/shadow to only the SW of the men, this would emphasize the shadow and might be the effect you are looking for.

That way the manualy painted shadow would show even if the "automatic" shadow would not. Not a bad idea I will need to investigate it.

Yes the border does make the graphics stand out much better in my oppinion. Attached are two more pics this time with 2x zoom and using the Green uniforms.

OK... Bear with me here :)

In the attached picture we have 3 options.

1 = How the infantry looks with the mod now.
2 = How it looks with the shadow (or half border) added as Cross suggested. If I understood him correctly.
3 = The black border option.

Notice how the "automatic" shadowing disappears when the infantry is on a road hex. The infantry in the no.1 example seem to become fused in the asphalt.

So now we have 3 choices. Which one looks the best now?

Ok, I desided to make two alternate versions of this mod that you can download from the attachements.

- "WinSPMBT_Inf_Mod_HB.zip" Contais modified infantry icons with the half-border option. Use this one if you just want the infantry to show up a little bit better from the backgrounds.

- "WinSPMBT_Inf_Mod_B.zip" Contains modified infantry icons with the full black border surrounding the graphics. Use this if you want the infantry to show up even more from the background graphics.

Thank you Rosollia and Cross, The best of both worlds. I just tested out the full black border version and it is a keeper for me.

Hmm I d/l'd mod B version and noticed that everytime as squad loses 1 man whole squad icon disappear:(... And HQ icon is "invisible". Could you fix them? I played as Aussie vs. Japan and noticed that opponent (Japan) had same weird icon "disappearing" as my troops have.

Warhero are you using the mod with WinSPWW2? This mod only works correctly with WinSPMBT.

I edited the first post to make it more clear that this mod is only for WinSPMBT.

Ok, I didn't read info good enough;). Anyway, I copied default icons back so no big deal...

Btw, are you going to add this into SPWW2 in future?

You do know that it's inspired by an WinSPWW2 Infantry mod by Cross (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=48024)?

As "void1984" pointed out the Cross infantry icons for WinSPWW2 are available at the WinSPWW2 Mods forum and have been for some time.

But if you mean adding the black border around the WinSPWW2 Cross infantry icons then I have done that already. However I have not uploaded that for the public. I am waiting to see what Cross does next as he mentioned to me that he may be doing some kind of update for his mod in the future.

Winter infantry camo for WinSPMT

Usage:
First backup your original infantry icon files so you can restore them for summer camo!

By default the winter icons are for German/grey uniform forces only. (Icon0010.shp and Icon0028.shp)
However you can make copies and rename them to give winter camo to the other factions.

For USA/green uniforms rename:
Icon0010.shp to Icon0011.shp
Icon0028.shp to Icon0029.shp

For Russia/brown uniforms rename:
Icon0010.shp to Icon0012.shp
Icon0028.shp to Icib0030.shp

For China/red uniforms rename:
Icon0010.shp to Icon0055.shp
Icon0028.shp to Icon0056.shp

Without borders looks "more realistic".
With is easier to see on the map.

Personal preference ... both work so either way.
