Hey all,

Since PBW is down with no ETA, is there somewhere else one can go to start a game of SEIV with others Online?

If not, is anyone interested in starting a new game? I would be willing to host a simultaneous game and do regular (24 hrs) turn processing on my own...

There's a Yahoo email group that predated PBW. You can sign up HERE. (http://Groups.yahoo.com/group/SE4-PBEM/)

The Last message posted was in October. I guess they have all been playing PBW, but there are still 77 members.

I contacted everyone in the game I am hosting, and we are continuing to play through email. I had participated in a game before the PBW site was operating, and I didn't see a reason for the game to stop when we could play on like this.

I am admin for DiVersionary Strategems game and don't have all the players emails... actually none becuase i intelligently deleted all the mail from them as it was old (and i dl my turns from the actual site usually) so if you were in that game (my pbw name is chocolatefro) just email me with your name (EDIT: email adress actually i don't need to know your name) so we can get going again.

I wasn't in that game... I was in A Little Roleplaying. If any of you are out there, maybe we should try to reorganize.

However, I am interested in starting another game anyway. I already have one other person who'd like to play. Anyone else interested? Just email me at chrislperry@mindspring.com

The settings are debatable, but here's what I was thinking:

Large, Galactic Edge Map
Event Frequency: Medium
Tech cost: Medium (default)
Home Planet Value: Good
Starting Resources: 20000 (default)
Starting Planet: 1 (default)
Racial Points: 3000 (Medium)
Victory Conditions (after 5 years): 80% tech tree and/or peace for 2 years
Simultaneous Movement

I've left everything else at default. If you're interested, send me an empire file. Try to be complete with your race/empire concept. For example: I've played games with people who have specified a primarily mercantile race, yet they are warmongers in the way they play. I don't expect roleplaying (although it's fun) but at least be consistant.

Also I'm open for suggestions regarding the settings.

Medium it is, then.

I wish there were some other takers, though. There are only three players so far, including myself.

Anyway, send me your emp file. And I'll see if I can round another player or two up.

Q) Is this game going to be played in the Gold Demo? It has TCP/IP enabled!

I wasn't planning on using the Gold demo, because you're limited to 100 turns.

As for TCP/IP support, I'm not sure if it's a feature that I am interested in. After all, every player has to be Online at the same time and while it would be great to use in spurts (knocking 10-20 turns out quickly in one sitting) I think it'll be hard to organize several people's schedules consistantly. PBWeb and PBEmail allow for people to take their turns at their convienence (more or less).

What would be REALLY useful is if you could take a PBW or PBE game and occasionally play it TCP/IP when people are able to spend an hour or two together, and then switch back to PBW/PBE to keep the game moving. Does anyone know if SEIV Gold is going to be able to do this?

Yep. You can do this. What you have to do is set the game up originally as TCP/IP and get at least the first turn generated. Then you can save the game at any point and pick it up again later either in TCP/IP mode again, or play turns via PBW/PBEM.

If you don't set the game up originally as TCP/IP though you can't play turns via TCP/IP during the game.

That is GREAT!! I've wondered why this hasn't been a feature of many games for some time now.

One of the biggest turn-offs of MOO3 is the fact that it doesn't support anything BUT TCP/IP (at least that's the Last I heard). TCP/IP is great for every now and then, but realistically it will be tough to maintain the momentum of a lenghty game w/o the consistency of PBE/PBW.

...

Thanks for the .emp file, Georgeig. I'm going to still try and round at least one other person up before we start. But if I haven't found anyone by Friday, I'll probably just go ahead with the three of us. If that's the case, do you want to have computer opponents?

no problem but gifts/tributes tech gifts/tributes/trades and surrenders must be disabled - ai is too easy to abuse - and we can use tdm-modpack

it only makes ai less stupid http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
you should not generate random empires but instead add existing ai empires (add existing --> choose --> edit --> controled by computer)
high difficulty/high bonus will be good too http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

tdm-modpack 2.0 (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/newuploads/1007993310.zip)

What's tdm-modpack? I searched around for it, and found mention of it, but no where could I find it nor a description.

BTW - I've never ran a mod before, although I'm not averse to doing so.

Well, another person has joined our game, making the total no. of players four. Anyone else want to join? I'm not going to start the game until tomorrow...
