I've been messing around with a downloaded StarTrek mod and was hopping someone could tell me how the computer selects races for the AI races. ie If there is a folder in the ..\Pictures\Races folder is there a chance the computer will select that race? Does it need or use an .emp file? I also noticed that in the mod I downloaded some of the races had only a fraction of the pictures the default races have. Does this matter? or will the computer just replace the missing pics with default ones? Thanks in advance for any replies. This forum is great for answering questions that have no doubt been asked many times before!! Also if anyone has any sources Online that will give some tips about making modifications I'd appreciate knowing them. (although I gather this is pretty much a trial and error thing)

Yes there's a chance the computer selects any of the races in ..\Pictures\Races
You can use a .emp file to manually add a race.
Misssing pictures are replaced with pictures from the generic shipset (the one neutrals use)

i have made a seperate folder with the normal races (full AI/pics) so that i can just substitute that by renaming the folder when i do a random AI generation (rare now).

there are a couple of threads here with modding info.... you can just search with the area you are really interested in...or just ask questions about specific files.

also a web site cgOnline ( i believe it is called ) has a mod (note to self why not open another window and get the link )(note to self do not type outloud http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif ) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

just for the geek code..... you have to be able to mod your signature.

Also

Make sure you create a mod directory and keep all the mod stuff there.

just change the path.... good luck....
