i bet its a sociological experiment to see if anyone will post there. i almost did, but just incase i was wrong about it, i thought id start this obnoxious little thread.

No, its not a sociological experiment. Although come to think of it, that might be a good idea... And thanks for not posting there. So far, my experiment is working flawlessly. I'll see what tomorrow brings.

i've seen a bunch of off topic threads that are "do not post here" and such on other forums, all to see if people would post there. But if he says its not for that i guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Bet Fyron's selling something.

I know he's got me waiting to read what it's all about...

Hope it's not too expensive.

I don't know, but if the intention is to drive people crazy with curiosity, it's working.

I haven't had this much anticipation since waiting to hear what "It" was a few weeks ago.

What is it I.F.? I must know! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Guys, its not that exciting. When I tell you what I am doing, it'll probably be a big let-down.

Maybe he's testing the speed that his post slides down the message board. Or maybe he discovered a bug in the forum's software and he's investigating.

Quikngruvn

I think he's testing "How do you keep a fool in suspense?"

I'm still waiting for the answer, tho. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

i was thinking along the same lines as spoo, he's probably testing how long a topic slips off a page if it gets no replies. We'll see I guess

We could all go and bump a bunch of threads below it up the list. The uncertanty principle in action. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

OK, now it's the day after tomorrow.

So I should let it drop, I know, I know.

This is all some cruel joke to drive me crazy isn't it? I'll bet you are all in on it. You are all conspiring against me to drive me crazy. I'll bet you all tapped into my computer and are watching me now. Laughing at me.

Stop it! STOP LAUGHING AT ME!

What is it! I must know the secret! What is the frequency Kenneth?!?!?!?

Well, I haven't visited the forum in a few days. And no, Geoschmo, I am not trying to drive you crazy, although that is a fortunate side-effect (err, unfortunate, i mean http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ). I will start phase 2 of the test now. And no, I will not tell you what I am doing yet.

Fyron
January 25th, 2002, 07:39 AM
Hmm, so far Phase 2 is going according to plan. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

It seems as if I have just been promoted. How pointlessly interesting...

im telling you, its a sociological experiment. i think he posted in the other thread and deleted the post just to bump it up so we would wonder whats going on with the thing. evil, evil.

Likewise but I am more curious about what happens if you DO stick a response in the post but then, I am that sort of person who would press a button that was marked 'Dont touch under any circumstances otherwise your head will be bitten off by a large camel' just to see what would happen http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

What did the error message say?

Val
January 25th, 2002, 06:13 PM
I got the same error a few days ago, I think it was on Wednesday. Something about the bracket missing? I refreshed and it disapeared. If I get it again I will take a screen shot.

Interesting: the Last post for IF's test thread still says 1/22 @ 5:04, but it's mixed in with the threads Last modified 1/25. Perhaps IF's found a way to bump a thread without it showing as being bumped...?

Its a simle magician's levitation trick.

It's a pretty simple stunt actually. I won't say how to do it; forgive my parinoia but I'm on other forums where people will bump years (litterally) old threads for fun; imagining those people with *stealth* bumping ability makes me sick.

Not that I think there are any people like that here, but..

Did anyone notice the Blue Arrow pointing to the date and time on his post? I checked other threads with 0 as well as some of the other ones and I have not seen this arrow???? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif
Could this have something to do with whatever, mischieviness or skull-drugery that is afoot?

In the thread post, the blue arrow shows as an icon for the mood and description of the topic, but I've never seen it on the date and time line on the actual post, hmmm, curious

just some ideas mac

I have my own theories on what he is up to but it upsets Growltigga when I refer to that subjet.

I am just far too easily shocked by what you get up to in your spare time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/blush.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

If you select the blue arrow by clicking on the radio button to the left of it, the blue arrow icon will show up on the date and time line instead of the usual thumbtack on card icon, mac. It is no different for creating a topic as for any other post. Try it yourself, mac.

Fyron

Ok, test's over. Here's what I did:

After discovering/learning about ghosting, I wondered how the forum would read ghosted threads. So, I decided to do a bug test. I created the thread. The next day, I made a post and then quickly deleted it. The thread was moved to the top with the post I made, as it should have. After I deleted the post, the thread stayed in the same place, even though the date was older than Posts below it. This is a bug that could be annoyingly exploited, although I doubt that there is anyone here that would do such a thing.

And the blue arrow has absolutey nothing to do with it.

Heheh, IF, ater all the suspense I think your sig is particularly appropriate to this thread.

Love the Australia day article BTW, had me giggling like an idiot. (Is there any other way to giggle?)

Well, isn't that nice. But couldn't you have done the same thing by just posting to an old message and deleting it, without all the secret "Don't post here." stuff. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Maybe that's just what you are claiming was your reason, and you really have some other more nefarious thing in mind. Perhaps we should reconvine the Warren commision to investigate this. I heard from another guy that he saw someone posting in the grassy knoll thread...

Fyron
January 26th, 2002, 07:38 PM
lol

I didn't want to mess up any real threads, so I made a new one specifically for my purposes. I'm gonna delete that post now and see if it deletes the whole thread or if there will be a thread with no Posts.

Fyron
January 26th, 2002, 07:40 PM
Ok good, deleting the sole post in that thread deleted the whole thread.

Suicide Junkie
January 26th, 2002, 10:25 PM
Deleting the first post kills the entire thread, even if there are replies.
