I made a Mod directory called MyData where I have added a few components & a few other misc things but when I try to start the game it says it cannot use the file Settings.txt. I thought I might have messed something up accidentally in settings so I copied the original & used it to replace the one in MyData but it still wouldn't work. How do I fix this?

Did you change path.txt to point to the new directory?

System Ship Movement Delay Milliseconds := 0
Use Old Log Political Message Display := FALSE
that might be your problem, at the start and the end of the settings.txt file

I looked and that isn't in settings.txt. Should I add them?

I am using the original Version (the one that is on the CD) I have just tried making a mod directory that is an exact copy of the un-modded files & I still got the error message. It will not let me use any directory except the original & I cannot figure out why.

The Version in the original SE4 cd is very outdated, get Last patch (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/malfador/SEIV/seiv_patch.asp).
Also data directory sould be ..\Mymod\Data

That's your problem. I don't think the original SE4 supported mod directories.

A game company putting out patches are one of the things you may not be used to, and thats what makes MM and shrapnel so great.
SE4 is very well supported, so there will be a continuous stream of patches for fixes, added features, and all kinds of stuff till the end of time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
