View Full Version : How to have AI mix ship designs?

I've been trying to figure out a way to have the AI build a mixed fleet of attack ships with different capabilities, and have not had any success as yet. For instance, I'd like to build one "point defense ship" for every 6 regular attacks ships (among other things). However the vehicle build queue does not allow you do build separate designs of the same type. Only one valid attack ship hull apparently can be built at any one time as far as I can tell.

Is there any way around this?

Good question. Is this addressed in SEIV-Gold?

Couldn't you make new categories - such as a PDF ship and then call the AI to build X amount of them? If I recall the Orkie AI had some unique ship classes and types.

Gold will allow you to specify ships by name, rather than just type; I think that will do what you want.

Thanks. That's handy...I'll begin using those ships to test out ideas, but then will do it the better way with correct names when gold comes out.

Defense Ships, Attack Ships, Kamikaze Ships, Boarding Ships, Troop Transports, and Carriers will all be included in fleets. You can use them all as a different class of ship which is called out separately. You need to keep at least one cargo storage on troopships, and a hanger bay on carriers (carriers do not have to be designed with a carrier hull) otherwise they will get moved around to pick up the appropriate units, but never get loaded. Like mentioned, the latest gold patch allows calling of design names or types in the construct_vehicle file.
