Drones and tactical combat

OK, so I'm messing around with drones. I figure they would be perfect for moding in the laser-head missles from Honor Harrington.

Problem. If drones are launched in tactial combat, you *can't target them*. They pick a target on launch and after that you can't control them.

Anyone know if they follow a strategy to pick their target or just go after the closest?

I thought the Drones first pick the Fleet leader in Fleets or the closest ship to them then after that one has been destroyed it just picks the closest one till the combat is over or all drones have been neutralized regardless of the strategies.

Am I right?
