Well, I made a ship to destroy a nebula in a system so I could make a star there, But it cant seem to find the nebula, says there aint one there.

Are you confusing nebulas and storms?
A nebula is a cloud that takes up an entire system. A storm just takes up one sector. They can both be destroyed but they require differnt components. Can't remember what they're called but the storm creator is early in the stellar manip tree and the nebula destroyer is toward the end.
Apologies if you knew all this already...

Yes, I know that.
Its big and huge and the solar system info says "This system contains a nebulaleaeae"

You probably need to use the star creating component at the central square in the system (either sector 6,6 or 7,7)

Is it one of the nebulae from SEIV classic (red, green, brown, blue, purple) or is it one of the new, swishy, multicoloured nebulae that came with Gold? Maybe the new nebulae are bugged.
Oh, and you are actually flying your nebulae-busting ship into the nebulae before trying Stellar manip, aren't you?

S_J - I've created stars at spaces other than the centre of the system before now. In my experience you can out it anywhere you like, you just can't make more than one.

I've never messed with a nebula either, but maybe try moving the ship to the exact center of the system, where the star normally is?

Yeah, i tried it at the wormhole, at the center of the system, etc etc etc.

Must be a bug

Do you have enough supplies to operate the stellar manip components? Insufficient upplies shouldn't produce the error you describe but it should prevent you from using the component.
Has anyone else seen this error / successfully used a nebulae-killer in Gold?

Had quantum reactor, I.E. infinite supplies.

I guess you're right, it's a bug. You should send a savegame and explaination to Malfador,and hopefully it will be fixed in the next patch.

Gonna start a new game to make sure its not just a fluke and recreate it, then if it happens again Ill send a savegame.

I cleared a system nebula[e] back around Version 1.4x, from an arbitrary sector within the system.

Confirmed, the problem seems to be the following:
The old nebulaes can be cleared:
Name := Storm 5
Description := A nebulae system.
System Physical Type := Nebulae
Background Bitmap := Storm5.bmp
...
New ones cannot:
Name := Nebulae 5
Description := This system is composed of a large nebulae.
System Physical Type := Normal
Background Bitmap := nebulae5.bmp
...
But therefore the highest sight-obscuration is 3, that means with the best sensors, you will not be completely in a mist http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

If you mod the new storm systems to Nebulae type, and then use a system storm clearing component on it, do all of the system's abilities get cleared too? Because, the new ones do more than just obscure sensors. It'd be kind of odd to clear the storm but have it still doing stuff.

Yes, the abilities get cleared too I'd think. Why? It works that way for the black holes.

I will consider it, but I am still not convinced if it could not be intended. Why are all the new style nebulaes just on obscuration level 3 ?
Mmmmh, maybe a question to MM would be a good idea.

Can you create a star inside the nebula system?
The system nebula might be destroyed when the star is created or is blown up.

A star can be created, but the freaky nebulae remains. Looks pretty cool, stars in a colorful nebulae.

Eh?
I couldnt create a star in the Nebula system or a black hole or an asteroid belt.
The only systems that I could create a star were systems that Blew up or cleaned up nebulas.

It is just possible for the new GOLD nebulaes, go to the folder pictures, find nebulae1.bmp through nebulae5.bmp to see how they look like.
Name := Nebulae 5
Description := This system is composed of a large nebulae.
System Physical Type := Normal
Background Bitmap := nebulae5.bmp
Because they are handled as "Normal", not "Nebulae".
With the old-style System-Storms, red, green, blue and so forth, it is not possible.
