My grandfather used to drink Sebewaing beer. It has a sky blue can with a pheasant launching into the air.

My favorite Kiwi beer was Lion Brown.

There is a list of Kiwi, Aussie and Chinese at http://www.lion-nathan.co.nz/companies_brands.cfm

Nope, I can vouch for Cripplecock, and I think it's quite accurately named really... I should think 8 or 9 pints would seriously affect your poultry=-)

The label shows a chicken on a crutch. If I can get hold of a bottle I'll scan the label for you, or nmaybe find a URL for the brewery or something...

Growltigga

Yep, all those beers are completely on the nail - they all exist and most have had amusing advertising campaigns as well.

For example, "Spitfire" ale is brewed in the south east of England in Kent where a lot of the Battle of Britain in WWII was fought over. The brewery got into awful trouble as their poster campaign on the London subway offended tourists as it said "Spitfire - downed all over the south of England, just like the Luftwaffe" or "Spitfire - no Fokker comes close"

"Scruttocks Old Dirigible is from east Kent and is a micro brewery beer so many Brits probably havnt heard of it - the slogan is great though keeping in mind that 'dirigible' is the proper name for airships/blimps/zeppelins - the slogan goes along the lines of the amount of hot air you generate if you drink the beer

and as for Tollemache Love Pump, I own a beer mat that has their 'Lick My' slogan on it!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Dogscoff is on the level - Cripple Cock is a cider made in the south west of England - I personally query whether Mr Scoff could get to 8-9 pints as I would only attempt this if (a) Mrs GT agreed and accepted the consequences and (b) I ties myself to a large rock first!

Actually I couldn't - I don't much like beers and ciders are too sweet to drink in bulk. More of a lager drinker, me. (There goes any credibility I may have had with GT, who is clearly a real ale nut.)

However, back in my student days I would think nothing of consuming 9 pints of Stella, a few whiskey chasers and a large doner with chilli sauce on a Tuesday evening. And most Fridays. And sometimes on Saturdays, too. The rest of the week we'd stay in and drink=-)

When I stop to think about it, there is a gap of about a year in my memory, which coincides almost perfectly with my second year of uni. Needless to say I failed my degree.

Me? a real ale nut? are you trying to insinuate that I am some bearded stout chap with poor personal hygiene??

Seriously, I drink anything. I like real ale and decent beer generally but living in Manchester, I end up drinking Stella Artois, Kronenbourg 1664 and Tennants Export

Surely you didn't fail your degree just by going out 3 nights a week?

Wardad, 3 more names for you

dogscoff
April 8th, 2002, 03:54 PM
(Sorry for OT Wardad)

GT: No, it wasn't the 3 nights a week going out and drinking, it was the 4 nights staying in and drinking that screwed my studying. It got to the point where I was practically nocturnal, drinking, watching TV and playing computer games on my Amiga all night, and being awake during the day just long enough to cook a curry, eat it, watch childrens' TV and get more beer in for the evening. Lectures weren't even a consideration. In my final year I probably attended less than a dozen hours' worth of lectures.

I got a good job now though where I use the skills I would have been qualified in, so I don't think it's damaged my career too much. Besides, it _was_ fun=-)

Growltigga
April 8th, 2002, 03:59 PM
(Wardad apologies for the OT but I will try and come up with a further dozen or so exotically named English ales for your collection by way of compensation)

Bad joss there El Scoffo but I am pleased to see that you didn't go the way of a lot of uni-drop outs and end up in the subway singing or 'would you like fries with that?' industries

Hey lighten up. It was just a friendly dig. I'll let you know if I ever join a PBW, then you can get revenge.

P.S. Too many houses have been firebombed this year. Don't joke! Some nut was been targeting construction on the edge of desert perserves.

Wardad, I know it was a friendly dig, that is why I posted a response on the site - a mad response wouldn't have been posted - I am a firm believer in the dual philosophy that says (1) 'don't get kmad, get even' and (2)'peace through superior firepower'

I was well surpirsed to hear about the firebombings in Phoenix, why?? having been to the botanical station, why on earth would anyone want to set fire to houses here???

anyway, as I said to Alpha Kodiak, living in Phoenix? you have my sympathies, I went to Phoenix Live and to Monty Casa Vieja, I am sorry for you

295 beer names and counting. Thanks BadAxe for the Lion-Nathon website info.

BTW: Growltigga, Some nut was using ecology as an excuse for burning down homes he could never afford. Turned out he trail biked the area a lot.
Phoenix area is a nice place. The cool mountains are close enough for a weekend getaway. I went to Hawaii Last month and froze.

DUFF is to famous to exclude. I never heard of the other two.

I am looking for text lists. I'm importing them into excel and sorting them. Then checking for duplication.

The list has Austrailan, Belgian, Chinese, English, German, Mexican, USA..., but no FRENCH BEER!

OOPS, I used French and Beer in the same sentance.

Just thought I'd get this thread going again. Enjoy.

wo men were sitting next to each other at a bar. After a while, one guy
looks at the other and says, "I can't help but think, from listening to you,
that you're from Ireland." The other guy responds proudly, "Yes, that I am!"
The first guy says, "So am I! And where about from Ireland might you be?"
The other guy answers, "I'm from Dublin, I am." The first guy responds,
"Sure and begora, and so am I! And what street did you live on in Dublin?"
The other guy says, "A lovely little area it was, I lived on McCleary Street
in the old central part of town." The first guy says, "Faith & it's a small
world, so did I! And to what school would you have been going?" The other
guy answers, "Well now, I went to St. Mary's of course." The first guy gets
really excited, and says, "And so did I. Tell me, what year did you
graduate?" The other guy answers, "Well, now, I graduated in 1964." The
first guy exclaims, "The Good Lord must be smiling down upon us! I can
hardly believe our good luck at winding up in the same bar tonight. Can you
believe it, I graduated from St. Mary's in 1964 my own self."

About this time, another guy walks into the bar, sits down, and orders a
beer. The bartender walks over, shaking his head and mutters, "It's going to
be a long night tonight, the Murphy twins are drunk again."
