It's been awhile since I Last played SEIV. I recently started a new game, and I'd like to build a "Fleet Tender" vessel. Previously I had modified the "Supply Container" to enable it to be used on a transport ship just like a "Cargo Container". Since I re-installed the game I had to remodify the "Components" file again. However I don't seem to be able to get the trick to work now. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
First I change "Number of Abilities" to =2.
Then I insert the following after the "Type 1 Ability" section
Ability 2 Type := Cargo Storage
Ability 2 Descr :=
Ability 2 Val 1 := 0
Ability 2 Val 2 := 0
When I had this set up properly I could place Storage Containers and a Repair Module on a medium transport and greatly enhance a fleet's range as well as repair vessels on the fly.

Looks correct. Are you getting an error, or does it just not see them as cargo components?

This looks a really useful tweak and once you get it to work Dr Strangelove, do you think you or Geo could post a chapter and verse summary on how you did it so that all us novvo's can replicate it

No crash, it just isn't working any more. When I try designing a transport with supply containers instead of cargo bays then warning about needing more than 50% of the space occupied by cargo bays doesn't go away and the design can't be built. I installed the latest patch when i re-installed the game. I wonder if the patch removed this tweak.
I learned about substituting supply for cargo on this forum. I was hopeing that the guy who came up with the idea was still around.

I got this to work in my Proportions mod, but I think I had to actually give the supply component a (tiny) positive value (not zero) for cargo storage. I can't remember if I found this was actually necessary or not, but it is working in Props 2+.

Change 0 to 1, namely
Ability 2 Val 1 := 1
It is possible that SE IV does not count your component as cargo because it does not provide any cargo space.

OK, I tried giving the Ability 2 Val a value of "1" and I doesn't work. Would you please look back in your mod and see how you got it to work? I looked back at the changes I made in the data file in the old computer and found that the changes that described in my first post worked then. I don't know why they don't work now unless the later patches made this fix useless.

DrS, Are you sure you have the path.txt right? I have made changes before and forgot to edit the path file to my mod dir and so it was still using stock data files.

I am quite sure that 1.60 does accept cargo storage with a amount of zero as being a cargo component. Many mods rely on this, and in the game I'm playing with my brother, the Stellar manip components count as required cargo on the Stellar Manip Barges.
You might want to give the description as "Counts as a Cargo component"

hello doctor,
I just tried this and it works:
Number of Abilities := 2
Ability 1 Type := Supply Storage
Ability 1 Descr := Provides storage for 500 units of supply.
Ability 1 Val 1 := 500
Ability 1 Val 2 := 0
Ability 2 Type := Cargo Storage
Ability 2 Descr :=
Ability 2 Val 1 := 0
Ability 2 Val 2 := 0
Weapon Type := None
please check your number of abilities
hope this helps

That was probably me. I had been wanting to convert transports to support ships and mentioned this on the Boards when I realized how easy it was to do. It has continued to work as I set it up through all the patches, including the latest betas. All I can guess is that Vulture-B has hit on your most likely problem. Did you change the NUMBER of abilities so it would know to look for this added ability? If that's not it, then I can't guessw why it doesn't work for you, because it works for me and always has.
