Wouldnt it be nice to have a tech tree, like in Civ. Just something that comes along with the game so you know what to expect from your tech advances. I know it tells you what to expect from the next advance of a certain tech........but Wouldnt it be nice to know what is going to come 5 advances down the road? Just maybe an Idea for the next SE Game!!!!!!

Hehe, you can do that now. No need to wait. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
There is an option in the game settings, it's the second to Last screen you setup when starting a game. It's like "Show tech tree" or something like that. Don't remember the exact words. Click that and you will be able to see the tech tree in the one of the in game screens. "Help" I think. It's been a while since I used it, but I know it's there.

EDIT: Ok, it's "Players can see complete tech tree" in the game settings. Put a green dot by that. It doesn't have one by default. Then to see the tech tree during the game its in the research queue screen, which makes sense I think. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Thanks Geoschmo. But Thats not exactly the kinda tech tree I eas looking for. Have you ever played civ? It comes with a peice of paper that Lays out the tech tree like a family tree...........With a little description of what each new tech level will bring. So for instance if I never played the game before and I'm researching bronze working(one of the earliest techs), wich gives you pHalanx units, I can look at my tech tree and see the path i want to take to get Modern Armour( one of the most powerful units). Granite this would take alot of time but I could see that far down the road with out even playing before. You would have to have played quite often to see that far down the road in SE4. Well this is just a suggestion for the SE when or if it comes out! Thanks again Geoschmo!

I see what you mean. I never played civ, but Age of Empires had something like that.
There have been some spreadsheets posted by fans from time to time that dealt with the techs, but I don't remeber anything exactly like that.
I suppose that would be something someone here could do. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I think someone actually did make a tech tree and posted it to one a recent thread (well, a couple of weeks ago, so it may be on page 10+ by now...).

tesco samoa had made a tech tree, it can be found at his site. I have linked to it on my site also, look under reasearch, the link is near the bottom.

The one HERE (http://se4kdy.cyberwars.com/files/tree.txt) is a pretty reasonable tech tree.

yeah, that's the one i saw...i could make a tech-tree viewer, to show the techs as in Civ, i already made such a program for Civ3.
But i would need the file with all the techs, since don't have SE4gold.

SE4G doesn't have any new techs besides Drones, which require nothing at all.
What would be great is a program that builds tech trees from the file http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Speaking of which, anyone know if there's a program that totals up the tech costs? I'm using an AI builder program at the moment, and though it does have a tech cost feature, it's old, not well suited to the job, and I think it was never finished. it's a bit buggy.

Since this game is so moddable I think a program to generate a tech tree would almost be a necessity. Called to Power 2 is the same way. Everything is changeable through text files and scripting Languages, and it needs the same thing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
