View Full Version : Stupid question: partnership & line of sight

An empire gets the "line of sight" of its partner empire(s). Should it also get a partner's partner line of sight?

Example:
Empire A is allied with Empire B and C.
Empires B and C aren't allied with each other.

Does empire B see "through" empire C's ships/units/planets?

Line of sight as in shared map data?

Then yes. C gives map to A and A gives the map to B.

Units and ships, as long as your not allied with C I don't think you can see them.

Empire B can see whatever Empire A can see with Empire A's ships.

If Empire A has a cloaked ship without sensors, B cannot see the ship.

If Empire A has a cloaked ship, and has a sensor capable of seeing through the cloak somewhere in that system, B can see the ship.

Empire B gets to see any of Empire C's ships that Empire A would have been able to see if the alliances did not exist.

Well, in a PBW game I am actually able to see through a partner's partner ships... It doesn't happen with all "second-generation" partners, though, only with one.
Do you think this is a bug? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

i remember discussions about this before, but i never tested it myself. from what i recall, it is a bug, and whos ships you can see depends on player number. A partners B and B partners C, and the player order is A-1 B-2 C-3, then A can see C but C cant see A.. or maybe its the other way arround.

or maybe im just remembering wrong.. or whoever posted it the first time was wrong. hard to say.

i have also noticed bugs where i can see into a system when i have no ships there. usually they are systems adjacent to my ships or to an allies ships. there is no fixed pattern to this though.

also, i think that even though you can see an allies ships when cloaked, you cant see them in a level-5 red nebulae.
