View Full Version : Problem unzipping extra mods into TDM

I just downloaded the TDM 3.10 and it said that if i want to add any extra mods such as the quad mod, mount mod, and eyecandy mod, I would just need to unzip them into the TDM/Data folder.
No luck. Anyone have any good advise on how to correctly do this. I'm trying to add from the extras folder on the gold disc:
CompEnhancementMod.zip
DeathstalkerQuadMod.zip
EyecandyMod.zip
If you could include an example of how to do this that would be great, maybe even in steps. I'm kind of computer illiterate.
Thanks

You have to unzip them into the Data folder under the TDM folder.
1) Locate the TDM folder under the folder where SE4 was installed, such as:
C:\Shrapnel Games\Malfador\Space Empires IV Gold\
2) Back up the Data folder that is in the TDM folder.
3) Open the extra mod in question.
4) Unzip it into the Data folder, making sure that it actually replaces the appropriate text files, and not get placed into it's own sub-folder.
5) Load the game and enjoy!

Many mods will unzip themselves into a unique folder (so they don't overwrite your original unmodded data files); this will conflict with what you are trying to do, and it sounds like it may be your problem here.
If you are having trouble, unzip the mod into a separate directory, and then copy the files into the TDM mod.
Be sure to move things to the proper directory.
IE: /ABCmod/data/file_xyz.txt copied into /TDM/data/file_xyz.txt
and
/ABCmod/pictures/... copied into /TDM/pictures/...
and so on.
=====================
The other way to do it (and the way I reccommend)is to unzip the mod normally.
Then copy the races from TDM into the mod you want.
IE: TDM/pictures/races/... copied into /ABCmod/pictures/races/...

Oftentimes the files in zip are stored with path (/Data) included, so you've either :
* to unzip in TDMModpack folder instead of SE4
* or directly in TDMModpack\Data folder AND disable "use folder name" option when extracting.
NB : you can also setup Winzip to always have its window "above" others, then just drag and drop the files where you want under the file explorer ... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
