Under the real subject heading of "I got to get a life" I spent half the weekend writing a program that would scan the tech/facility/component data files and let your browse throught them. ie click a tech area it will show you the data about it and what it leads to which you can then click to see the facility info. I like it for checking out what's new in mods. If you try it be sure to click the help menu for the non-obvious areas to click. Beats me if anyone will find it usefull but here it is.

Nice. Two suggestions: add a back button and close the old list when moving to a different area. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

What's with some of the listings being in red and some in white?

This tool is just great ! Thanks !
Perhaps a good addition would be a setting/ini file allowing to name and store all mod data directories for quick switching, instead of having to change them by hand every time...

Phoenix-D<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Red-white and blue. Just colors I chose to differentiate between a component, facility and tech area. &lt;Edit: Although I see now some things are being listed in wrong color&gt; Yup had the back button suggestion from a friend. Good idea to save directorys too.

Thanks.<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">A file list is at the bottom. Actually I think the program may run using the old systems files so here is a link to get just the executable.

nice program..
a suggestion, instead of having a list like this:
Anti-Proton Beam I
Anti-Proton Beam II
Anti-Proton Beam III
Capital Ship Missile I
Capital Ship Missile II
Capital Ship Missile III

why not have it like this:
+ Anti-Proton Beam
+ Capital Ship Missile

with a submenu that lists all the different levels, make the list a while lot shorter

/edit: you could also add IntelProjects, and VehicleSizes, since they also got tech requirements, you could also link to them

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thanks for the suggestions. The short answer is it was easier to program. :-) But yea you're right it would definately look better that way. (and alphatbetical would be nice too) I've been thinking about adding in some of the other data files too like the intel one.

Already this is a wonderful program, http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif if you can add edit ability to it it'll be a modders dream!

Keep up the good work!

Stunning.
Question: How did we ever play without it?
My sweetheart thanks you also since she no longer has to ask me "how do I get X" and hope my answer is correct. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

What, no sounds? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Sorry, it's all I could think about to complain about. This program is very slick. I agree if editing features were added, it would be a quite awesome program. But even as it is now it does what it claims to do very well.

How about adding a branch for race files to view their pics and data files info. At least the General file stuff, the other AI files are a bit long and detailed, not sure if they would fit this format or not. Of course you have amazed with this so far, so I shouldn't put it past you. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I tip my hat to u, thats quite the program youve made there http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Very easy to use, program layout great, only real downside i see is the filesize because it was written in Python or something right?

I am eager to see how u do the layout for editing... there are alot of possible things to edit for components even. Multiple tab windows or such might be needed given the size of the tree list on the left side of the window. So im waiting to see how u pull that off

Added Vehicle sizes and intel projects to tree view. So now we have a component/facility/tech/intel projects/vehicle size Viewer. Next step: make the fields all editable so you can created new or edit the components/facilities etc.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thanks for all the feedback! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif The program is actually written in Visual Basic 6. The bloated file size is due to the VB dll and the common controls OCX file. That's why I gave two links so one you run the setup program one you can just get the exe with is about 500k. Well at least untill I add some feature that needs a new DLL or OCX http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
