How do you use emergency propulsion?

Hi, I'm new to the game and I was wondering how you use the emergency propulsion? I put it on my ship but I don't know how to use it in combat or normal movement!!

IIRC, it is done through the "use item" icon, which I believe is next to the decloak icon in the top bar.

Emergency propulsion (as well as emerg. resupply and any other "usable" component like cloaks) can only be used from the main game screen, not from combat. However, using emergency propulsion just before initiating combat might base your combat movement on your new propulsion, instead of your standard propulsion. Don't know, never tested.
