I don't know if anyone else has run across this but I was working on my mod one day when I went to test my changes in SEIV. Anyways I go to run SEIV and it says it can't find the components.txt file. I don't know why it does this. If I move my component.txt file and put another in it's place it works fine. I have tried everything, right down to opening another component.txt file and replacing all of the components. Nothing works,

Has anyone else run across this?

Yes I have and it turned out to be an error in the file so the program could not read it.

What was the error and how did you fix it?

First make sure there is exactly one blank line after the "*BEGIN*".

If there are two, you should get no components, but if there are zero, it might complain that it can't read the file.

SJ, pay attention! *slaps ruler on desk*

The problem is Space empires was refusing to admit there even was a components.txt, I'm no newbie here. I found the problem it was in my crystaline armor, don't know what it was though.

"but if there are zero, it might complain that it can't read the file."

Nope.. it loads fine. Of course, you can't DO anything, but it does load.

Can I see the before and after component? I might be able to nail down the exact problem SE4 is choking on.

"The problem is Space empires was refusing to admit there even was a components.txt, I'm no newbie here."
Yeah, I though it might cause that error, but wasn't able to test the theory at the time.

This is a long shot,
When I opened my components.txt it was too big and suggested I use Write.
Acknowledging that you have an advanced proficiency, is it possible that at 1:00 am you accidentally saved it as a “Write” file?
When you edited it again saved perhaps you saved it as a text file?

HG: Good suggestion, it was the first thing I checked.

After a bit of searching I have found the problem. There was a blank field for number of tech required in crystalline armor 1. Instead of a number there was nothing.
