Planning Second PBW Star Trek Game

PBW Game Thought

In addition to my current Star Trek game at Play By Web, I would like to start a second Star Trek Game, one that will involve players who love to Role Play, and who want to dedicate the time to play what could become a very long game. I want to start the game out in a large galaxy, 200 + systems, Medium Tech level (To get the game up and running sooner), 3000 racial points, 3 Planet Start / High Value & good conditions. The new game would start as soon as all the available races have been taken. Those that would be included would be the following:

Andorian
Breen
Borg
Cardassians
Dominion (Reserved)
Federation STNG/TMP/TOS (Selected on a first come first serve basis)
Ferengi
Hirogen
Kazon
Klingon
Romulan
Rogue Fleet
Son’a
Vulcan

That would be a maximum of 17 thus far, and a minimum of 14.

It sounds like a awesome idea. But what would the turn basis me? 24 hours? 48? If you could post the details in more detail then I can decided if I could do it. If I can play and it works out I'd like to play species 8472.

Right now, I am open to group suggestion on the turn durations. I would like to do LAST PLAYER UPLOAD to insure that everyone has a chance to make their turn the way they want, however with the NO AI MOD, on a 24 or 48 hour automatic turn, players would not have to worry about the AI goofs that often occur.

And 36 h turns; not a fast as 24h, but It wouldn't make a game slow going as with 48 h turns.

Were looking at 36 hour turns then. NO AI MOD, so when the game is posted and you upload your races, be sure to set them up the way you want them. (Customized Characteristics and such)

*Rich04, which era are you going to play? Star Trek Next Generation STNG, Trek Motion Picture TMP, or Trek Original Series TOS?

It would be illogical for me to play a race other than the Vulcans. When will we begin?

I will go with STNG.

Will there be any house rules as far as techs or settings go.

I would love to see the races be very Trekish rather than most of them being Organic and/or Religious. (unless it makes sense for the race)

Somehow if the Vulcans showed up (not that I am saying they will) as a Bloodthirsty/Crystal/Religious/Beserker race it wouldn't seem right.

I will be setting the game up at PBW later today, and was going to wait to start the game until Saturday. This would give others the time to decided if they want to play or not. Regardless, if it will meet with all the players schedule, the game will start Saturday.

History:
In the year 2219.5 a Great Cleansing War began.

Following the destruction of the known powers of the Alpha Quadrant, chaos in sued as the Cleansing Fleet systematically targeted all core systems and known colonies. Sparing some, but annihilating most, only a handful of each race survived to live on. The Federation, Klingon Empire, Breen, Dominion Order, Cardassians, Ferengi, etc all survived in one form or another and now began the daunting task of rebuilding their societies and cultures. This same scenario played out acrossed the galaxy as the Cleansing move on, many races near utter collapse found themselves having to rebuild and re-learn many technologies that they had once taken for credit. All the while living under the fear that the Cleansing would return. Not one race was left untouched by the devastation of the Cleansing. Every planet in every system within the entire galaxy had been visited by the Cleansing. Not one world was left unsacred by this horrific war.

The year now is 2400.0 and remaining races of the galaxy, fearing that someday the Cleansing Fleet my return; begin to venture back out into space, the Final Frontier.

Also, if no one else joins by tomorrow afternoon, I will considered that no one else is going to join and lock the number of players in at 14. There is still one spot open, and its the Son'a, or Rouge Fleet your choice.

Also be sure that your race contains a race descrition of some kind. Take some time and do this right. It will add to the RPG factor.

If the set ends with (NASY) or has GOLD in the title, then its is the lates Version of that set.

You can use whatever set you want. If you want the new set, then just download it, and only extract the images. They will over right the old ones. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

One thing to consider is that the none NASY or none GOLD sets are just that, NONE GOLD. No Drones. This will cause errors if they are the only set you have. The errors can be overcome simply be deleting the AI files that are included with the 1.49 sets.

Or, upgrade the AI files with the GOLD Versions. I doubt this will cause problems with the PBW game, but if it does, we can always restart the game.
