How can I sue for peace with another empire? I try offering a Non-intercourse, but is always rejected (with an empire at "brotherly" mood). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

Also, why declaring war? Last game, I attacked a human colony not being at war, and they didn't even retaliate. In fact, they were "brotherly" in a few turns. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif

Can someone explain?

In a single line: AI = Artificial Idiot

In depth:
It's just a computer program. There is a line in the AI files that forces any empire to NOT renew a treaty with you for a certain number of turns after a break, for example. No relation to actual 'attitude' or need for a treaty. Just a hard, arbitrary waiting period. The 'attitude' of the AI works the same way. There is an arbitary 'float' of a certain fraction of a percent per turn. If you are not doing enough damage to make them angry, they get happier.

You can edit the AI files to reduce the enforced waiting period and increase/decrease the 'float' effect. You can also just keep offering a treaty. There is a small positive effect on AI attitude towards for for offering a treaty. Gifts make the AI happier, too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Many thanks. So I'm not mistaken and the way to sue for peace is offering a treaty?

Only non-xenophobes get happier when you offer them treaties. Xenophobes normally get PO'ed if you offer anything but a Non-Intercourse treaty. =P

[edit] Anyway, yes, peace is gained by offering a treaty. A non-aggression pact would probably be better if the target empire's mood was brotherly.
