Just wanted to pass this idea to everyone.

And I hope it is received well and the beta testers take note and pass it on to MM.

Here it is
Open up Warp Points for modding

Ie. The ability to cloak warp points.

That is all i am looking for.

This is open for dicussion.

I do believe the logical conclusion of this conversation will be to open up every object for modding.

Please post. your thoughts on this. Or if it can be done right now as the game stands. Maybe this should have been a poll.

Who says warp points are NOT open for modding? How many abilities have you tried on them? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif There are probably few abilities in the game that are able to do anything with them, but you're free to try and find out. I bet either 'cloak' or 'Sector - Sight Obscuration' works on a warp point already. It might be interesting to make 'Sector - Sensor Interference' in warp point sectors to make battles there even more desperate. Or even give them 'Sector - Damage' to make it difficult or impossible to place static defenses. Quite a different thing from being damaged only by going THROUGH them! It'd be nice if 'Ability Required' was implemented so we could have a 'jump engines' and differentiate between system ships and warp ships, tho....

No, warp points can not be cloaked or obscurred. It would appear that this is hard-coded into the game to keep them visible. Think about it this way; How can we see a warp point in a nebulae that obscurs everything else (including stars and planets)?

Nodachi is right Baron. You cannot site obscure warp points. The game won't let you.

You could I suppose give a warp point a bitmap image that was blank, or blended in with the background stars. But it won't really be obscured. The AI will still operate as if it's perfectly visible, because it will be to anyone that isn't limited to getting their output from the monitor.

"Awww, crud! I hate it when someone comes along with an inconvientent fact and ruins a perfectly good theory."

Couldn't resist that Geoschmo http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif !

But it would be a nice thing if you could do it as the ability for warp points to open and close sporadically.

System ships and warp ships? Have you been reading the MOO3 forums, Baron? Bad SE4 fan! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Just kidding, I read them too! I like MOO!

Warp points opening and closing automatically? Geez, the AI has enough trouble with damaging warp points as it is! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Ah, but can you make a WP that cloaks ships that are in it, like a storm? I think you can.. (makes WP defense a bit hairy..)

Yes, you can do that Phoenix-D. Add Sector - Sight Obscuration to them.

Phoenix-D<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Now that is interesting. Give them sector-cloak level 6 and fleets cannot engage at warp points anymore. No more trench war at the warp points.

I WANT CLOSED WPs like in Starfire!
