Please report any error or missing race

Tell me of the races I have listed in old sections of the Shrapnel forums are posted anywhere else.
If not someone should re-post them (maybe upadting AI), and then it will be safe for Richard to erase the old forums, as he's been threatening.

Please report any error or missing race<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You list the Neo-Candian empire (Gtkk) as unavailable / "not Online anymore" ... that is in fact incorrect.

I downloaded it within the past two weeks, from Universal Shipyards. A direct link is --&gt; HERE (http://usefans.net/USy/index.php?inf=raceviewer&id=gtkk) &lt;---

Also, the Directory Name is GTKK, not "canadian" (at least as it unZIPped for me) ... and the creator is John Beech.

IMO it's a beautiful shipset -- and thankfully, it IS still available Online. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

[edit: strange UBBcode error, not my fault - honest!]

When this new grey, red and blue shipset for the neo-canadian was made the old gold and blue verison has been replaced everywhere.

The new Version is included in the list (although it not next to it since shipset are ordered by directory name).

I was told that the shipset has survived in the Ultimate Mod, and since that mod it's not Online in SpaceEmpires.org, it can only be found in the Version of the Ultimate Mod hosted in the PBW site.

Shame, I kinda liked the old Canadian one (I know, biased I guess being one and all http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif ). Luckily I still have it on the old p133 computer. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I modded it with a different name, a new race portrait and a fast patched religious-psychic AI
I wonder I should and if it would be ok if I posted it like this.

Some of you seem to be Online with nothing better to do much longer than me.

I've downloaded and installed in my computer most of the newer shipsets out there, all I need is to revise every one of them to verify names, links and authors.
Seach for dead links (need to update all NASY links) and check a few sites (shrapnel download forum, USy, NASY, PBW, SOAS, (other?) for shipsets I could have missed)

That's good news. Perhaps I could help, I don't know in which way. I can check some of the current races if you like and make a report.

I think that an interactive way to declare a race (dynamic form or simple mail), warn for dead links and updates would be useful to have an up- to-day list.

If you want your ship set included I would say that it is up to the author to provide you with the information Andres. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I have something like 35 sets now. That is a lot. I can organize the links for you and post them here in a couple of days.

Will that work better for you?

Unfortunately many shipset makers don't know of the list or don't care about getting listed and some that never visit this forum.

Active checking and searching will still be necessary, unless I only want to list those who send me thge info.

But yes it will help a lot to have authors providing the information.

I know of about 20 new shipsets that should be added to the list, and so far all you just reminded me of were already among them.

Could you please post the data I put into the 4 columns so I don't have to redownload every shipset?

Maybe I should also list alternate AIs for stock races.

Some authors call their shipsets with a name that does not match neither their in-game name (Empire Name + Empire Type) or internal name (dir & files).

I want to be as strict and acurate as possible about names so please verify that data before posting.

Hey ZeroAdunn I like your old shipsets and still use them in solo games from time to time.
I think you should should rescue them and add them to your site. I still have my enhaced contrast Version of the Lyosion if you need it.
But I will honor your request and remove them, I think those links are dead anyway.

<tr>

I've started to check from the bottom of the list.

Seems that there is a lot of update work. Perhaps you should start from scratch because there are almost more dead links then working ones.

dead links :

Zedron
Vulcan (ALL NASY links seems to be down)
Viral
Vidhrine
Unified Terran Empire
Ur-Quan Hegemony
United Freespace Alliance

One other point is links that bring on this forum, but on pages that doesn't contain the named shipset. That's quite confusing for the visitor. Perhaps we should give these races a more "stable" download area, with the author agrement of course...

unable to find the on the forum :

Zorian
Zorgoid
Vasudan
Vandron
Ur-Quan Hegemony

Atrocities
March 7th, 2003, 12:29 PM
Vertually every race I have ever made is at the PBW site.

Back in the summer I had complications with the hosting site for the NASY Site. The new site has been at http://galileo.spaceports.com/~william/main.htm
and http://newageshipyards.cjb.net since October.

I have 25 races availible, 20 being star trek, 5 being other. Several of the Star Trek races have, or soon will have, 2 or perhaps 3 differant ship sets availible to download. I only keep the latest ones AI up to date. The other ones can copy the newest AI over if they wish to have up to date AI but want to keep the ship set Version they are using.

I am also working on having a master download page made to list all the ship sets and Versions that are availible, but you can get most of them right now from PBW.

Sorry, but I had a question for Tim Brooks or even Richard if he could answer it. Is there a way to get a list of all the uploads a member has made to the forum, old forum and new one? This way I could have access to those old files.

I lost my copy of all my upload history a while back. (copies of upload links.)

Thanks Trooper.
I've made a partial update of the list.
http://se4kdy.cyberwars.com/racedir.htm

About NASY what we need to do is follow the link in Atrocities' signature and copy data from all up there.

About races posted in the forums, it's most likely that due to new Posts they've been moved to an older page.
Copying them to a more permanent location is not a bad idea (and finally moving all from the old download areas to a safe location) but I'm too lazy to do it.

trooper
March 7th, 2003, 11:44 PM
A short precision : I was not searching for the zorian shipset (or another shipset), I was checking if links on the current shipset list of Andres were pointing on a page on which the shipset could be directly downloaded.
There are actually lots of stuff available on the forum, but It's a hell to find something there (I have difficulties to find stuff on it indeed, and I think I'm not more stupid or clever then the average visitor).

So, I think it's very useful to have an up-to-date list with direct working links. Shipset authors will have to check if all their shipsets are here, and if they are not, provide the missing informations in a four columns format, as in my previous thread. (So Andres will not have to download the shipset abd check the directory name.

Bonus ideas :

It would be fun and convenient to have a sample picture for each shipset. Another very uselfull info is the neostandard compatibility for custom mods. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I think the best solution would be that shipset authors write here where their downloadable files exactly are.

Let's keep quiet my friends, it's a systematic link test of the current list I'm trying to do, it's not harassement http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif !

Andres : When I write "direct link" I'm not thinking about a link to the zip file, but a working link on a page that contains the downloadable zip. I wouldn't like SO to put a direct link on my zip files to on his site indeed...
Moreover, it's more convenient to have a demo page of the shipset before downloading it, so the less direct zip links, the better. As written below, I see a exception to this rule.

SJ : If think shipsets posted in the forum are actually a problem, because pages move on this forum, and a link which work today will be wrong in a few weeks. Perhaps in this particular case direct links on the zip files should be done...
Perhaps there is a efficient way I haven't heard about, to find an up-to-date shipset file on this forum. If so, please tell it to me.

Atrocities : message received, I will always try to add the good URL for your old shipsets in your current page. Nethertheless, I haven't found the Rogue Fleet Alliance on your current site ?

Anyway, here are today's wrong lines, perhaps you can help finding that lost shipsets :

I'm not sure if I follow.
One way to put and keep all of the links on one page would be to start a thread with the ship sets linked in the first post.
Then the author can keep it updated.
Putting the links at other sites would be great as well. (which I think is the thrust of this thread).

Edit: It would be redudant but it would work.
Perhaps it can be in the first page of this thread?
Thanks for all of your hard work.

Whose site is this ?

In the same time, I ask to any shipset author who don't have a site, and don't want his creations to be forgotten at the bottom of a forum thread, to allow me to create a preview and download page for his races on State of the art spaceyards.

There are a few "Other downloads" in the bottom of Zarix's Mirror of the Image Mod.
The link seems to be working now.

Everybody seems to agree it's ok to post direct links to zips in these forums.
A good way to start this would be checking the download section of these forums and copy all links there, assuming that what was Last posted there is the Last Version.

Thanks Trooper, I'll add your updated links ASAP.
Maybe it would be better if you would keep and update this list in your site.
Having contributed with the initial list maybe it's time I leave and let someone else take charge of this project.

Fyron : Now that I've spent a few days shearching the forums (and that I've understooden that a huge part of the downloadbale files are on another part of schrapnelgames site), I think I'll be able to find working direct links for the list. But I hope that the coolest shipsets will have a preview page.

So, it is easier to just link to the files. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

The Legion Imperium is called "the legion" on PBW<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'd swear that theis empire type is Imperium, what makes their entire full name The Legion Imperium.

Any info about "IM" ?<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's a link that Zarix had posted earlier on this thead.
It points to his mirror of the Image Mod, and as I had said, there are a few shipsets labeled as "Other downloads" in the bottom after all image mod downloads.
And it seemed to work quite fine every time I tried.

My brother has Rogers High Speed, and gets access to 7 E-Mail accounts with 10MB of webspace for each account. I know he's using a few of the address', but, if 30MB would do the trick, I could probably get the space allocated and prepared.

The main pb with the race viewwer is that it uses the .bmp pictures, which are very heavy... not a solution I would use.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No, I've never heard of it. I'll look it up and update the neo-standard site accordingly.

EDIT: The Shadri link on the race list needs updating:-) Here's the direct link to the zip: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/newuploads/1009374387.zip

As for the display pages: They don't all have to be on the same site. A geocities account or something similar would be enough for one or two shipsets. If each author did that, and then the race list linked to them all... I'm sure it wouldn't be hard for some codehead to modify the race viewer to accept gifs or jpegs, then it would be really really easy to set up such a site.

Also, there are plenty of shipyards willing to host sets. I'm aware that many authors seem to have abandoned their sets, so we're unlikely to achieve 100%, but we could probably make the whole shipset finding/viewing/downloading process much easier.

Replace all .bmp with .png, .jpg, whatever.

Bandwidth and server space for a few ship sets is minimal. But for 100s of ship sets, it adds up. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Andres, are you alright with the updates of the race dir ? I'm about to finish the pirates shipset, so I'll have plenty of time and lots of ideas to improve it (annotations on races, mods compliance, demo picture...).

However, png is a far better file format. There is no loss of color information as in jpg, and the file size is only a bit larger than jpg.

Great.

I've finally found Zedron shipset. You won't have to send it to me.

The dugel regime seems to be the only one that you don't have... Does anyone got it ?

Andres, I've found some missing links :

United Colours Empire & utopian brotherhood can be found here :
http://solar-outpost.com/debot/jbeech.html

Sovereign Pacean Directorate and Aleskander House Sector can be downloaded here :

RD : thanks for your link and for the two shipsets, I'll make them available for download this WE.

Most of the shipsets I propose on SOTAS come from spaceempires.org, which is probably history. I came to an agrement with Fang Tsu, the site owner and Hadrian Avantine, the races creator. So I won't end up in jail. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Andres : mmmm...and what about the race dir http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/confused.gif ?
