View Full Version : Why reduced resources for building?

I'm playing a PBW game and can't understand why some of my planets are constructed with reduced amounts. They are not on slow build. Some planets without a space yard and low pop are building with 2000 resources each as expected. However I've got some planets with shipyards that are only constructing with 1960 resources. Many others are at value much lower than I'm used to. So what gives? I did not create the race since I took over for another player but my Construction aptitude is average. Although since some of my planets are building at 2000 I assume there is another reason for the low build planets???

The Space Yard Facility builds with more resources than the Space Yard component - that is the most likely answer to your inquiry.
Woops! Wrong Answer!
The real answer is probably the population's happiness! The happier the colonists - the more building to be done!

David, if the construction rate was reduced to 98%, it would still be "average" (I think) and would give you the 1960 build rate you were getting. Does this make sense with all the other variations you are seeing?
Oh yeah! Look at any planet with a space yard, click on abilities and it will tell you exactly what changes have been made, if any, to the construction rate.

in the system view, when you are looking at a planets details, one of the buttions will show you all the production modifiers for racial traits, population, facilities, and happyness that are being applied to the planet.

Heh. Been so long that click that 'abilities' button that I forgot it was there. That's the answer though -2% ship yard rate. Seems a bit strange that bulding a ship yard would actually reduce your build rate. But oh well. Inerestingly one planet said "+20% production from population happines" which was not reflected in the planets build rate. Although I supose that could be because the population on the planet is alien.
Thanks for the help.

IIRC the bonus to production might be the bonus to resource production. I don't think that the SY bonus from happiness applies unless the planet has a SY on it.

Construction and production are two different things: Construction is the building of ships, units and facilities and is affected only by your initial race bonuses, level of shipyard and population. Production is the output of your facilities-- minerals, organics, radioactives, research and intelligence-- and is affected by your race bonuses, planets resource percentages, population AND happiness. A high happiness has no effect on construction.
