I'm hoping to gather some opinions on which of these two mods can put up a good long term game against the computer. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I'd like to cast my vote for TDM-Modpak. I'm currently playing a game --
Small spiral arm, high difficultly, medium bonus, medium # of opponents, no neutrals, simultaneous combat.

I got luckly, only fairly peacefull races were generated, and they are all willing to be friendly with me. But ...

My long range scanners tell me that everyone has phased polaron beams and the Praetorian have massive fleets of Null Cannon Dreadnoughts. Sheesh, all I got is sheilds III.

My current plan is to quietly build carriers and armored fighters. I might be able to hold them off long enough to strike their rad producing planets and cause them to lose ships.

If the Rage had been generated this would have been a very short game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

As a contributor to the Devnull mod, I think I can safely tell you that it really is no contest. If what you are looking for is the best long term game against the AI, TDM is the only way to go. Not only is it better than the Devnull mod in that regard, it's better than any mod out there. There really isn't another mod in it's class.

While Rollo has done an amazing job tuning the AI to work for the spceial techs available in the Devnull mod, and his Monsters are way cool http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif (And no slouches either), I don't hink I am off when I say the intention of the Devnull mod isn't to primarily make the AI harder to beat. That is however the expeesed goal of the TDM mod, and it accomplishes it quite well.

I'm also playing the TDM-Mod against the computer. My question is when I download a new race, do I need to put the race in the TDM's picture file, or the original picture file that came with the game? And if I did download to the TDM, would I have to do the same thing to all of the other mods that have the picture files?

You can put the race in the default race folder, and then create an empty folder with the same in the TDM races folder. This will cause the game to use the race when playing TDM. It will look in the default race folder for any missing files.
