View Full Version : A thought - probably expressed before, but ...

... how about a tech that allows miniaturization of certain components? Advances in technology might help to reduce the size of some components allowing more to be added to a ship/base/wp/sat/planet.

Am I talking through my newbie hat here?

Once the patch comes out mod a researchable mount that shrinks components.

Nay, just make for example APB II to do the same damage as APB I but shrink by say, 5kt. Miniaturization has been discussed before, but in the sense it is exactly what you get for researching next level in weapons. It is just expressed a little bit different.

'Nay, just make for example APB II to do the same damage as APB I but shrink by say, 5kt."

This is a pain. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Why? When retrofitting ships, they must be the *exact same tonnage*. So if you just press the upgrade button and leave it at that- or end up with space left over you can't use because of the shrinkage- you won't be able to retrofit to the new design.

Phoenix-D, that is regarding the hull size, not the space used on the ship. You can retrofit to designs with more or less of the hull filled with components.

Interesting. I just tested it and it worked.. despite the fact that I KNOW I've played games where it hasn't worked.

There is/was a PBW bug where that happens sometimes with new ship designs that are still prototypes.

The work around is to put the new design in a shipyards build que. You do not have to build it, and it can be placed at the end of a long build que.
This work around guarentees that design will be avialable for retrofit that turn and other turns.
