If you have SE4 Gold, it is on your CD, under "extras". Non-Gold TDM can be found somewhere
in download forums.

LOL I wish! I don't have gold full Version, i had SEIV full Version but lent it out and my pc crashed lol, so i'm using 100 turn demos lol. Ahh i preferred the days of SE 2. Unlimited Turns lol and an interface that screams out dark ages now!

That's bad because the demo Version generally does not work with modified data files. However there are some exception and I don't know if the AI files are part of these. Therefore I recommend you get the full game (back again).

Well i doubt that! But i might be ordering SEIV gold tomorrow! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif <-- Very Cheezy Grin. And i've got way to many shipsets downloaded that have very bad AI, but great images so i was hoping to sort that out. That and i'm sick of Ships using Wave Motion Guns, can we have variety please?

If you mean making the ship models there are several out there. I use DOGA III (shareware) myself, basically a Lego system of bolting parts together. If you have some CAD experience Moray (shareware) plus PovRay (free rendering engine) is decent.
DOGA: http://www.doga.co.jp/english/
Moray: http://www.stmuc.com/moray/
POVRAY: www.downloads.com (http://www.downloads.com) (it'll re-link, I never can remember the new link). Have to do a search there.

Lol no no no no. Me not going to try and create ships if thats what u mean! Then again i had my first early night for a while and its catching up on me!
What i'm stuck on is the AI Text Files found in the Pictures\Races\Racename, the RaceName_AI_Design Creation.txt files. Is that how you create ships for the AI or am i just going about this the wrong way!

yes, design creation file is what you are looking for. It can be tricky though. Take a look on some TDM-mod files before changing anything.

First thing after getting Gold - install TDM and start a game in small galaxy, maximum AI diff. and bonuses, no neutrals. Restart game untill you get Rage/Aquelians/Pyrochette/X'chung as neibouhrs. Then tell us about your experince.

Deadstar: Me no expert on the AI but, in designcreation you put the number (found in techarea.txt file) for your prefferred weapon in the primary slots (eg wave motion #1, null in #2, etc). Secondary I normally use for PD. That at least will get weapons sorted out for you.
Next area is research: there you can, if feel comfy doing it, get you fav weapon researched early. Just make sure that any pre-required weaon/technology is researched first.
If ya want a MOD with variety, the B5 MOD, when finished will ahve plenty of that. Each primary race has its own, special weapon system(s) and techs. It is in beta stage atm with not all race tech fully implemented.
Like Rollo and oleg said: max out the bouns, etc for the AI races and have the ones mentioned as your enemies. They'll give you a go ....

Any sort of buffer zone increase yor chances of survival manifold. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">What kind of engine does a "survival manifold" come off of? I think I might have found one in some ruins in Junkyard Wars 2, but I can't colonize Gassy planets, so you'll have to come take a look at it yourself...

Heres the doc on design creation that I did, I haven't updated it for a long time but it may help some. I also posted a revised Version of the AI spreadsheet I put together that fixed a few miss-spellings in the original.
